December 2013, Scorer 14 Scorer with BridgePads Quick Guide to Teams Scoring These instructions a short guide to Teams scoring. Only the most common functions are covered. For details on more advanced or optional functions see the Scorer User Manual and BridgePad User Guide. Start Scorer using desktop icon: Login: Name = admin Password = leave blank Or use the Name and Password you have been provided with From the top menu on the next screen, choose Scorer,then Score Section to bring up the Calendar screen showing the days events. The event should have been pre-entered in the calendar. If the event is not showing, refer to the Scorer User Manual for instructions on entering events. Select the event (usually there will only be one). Click Next Make sure the correct date and event name are in the header window at the top of the screen. If Event Details and team names have been pre-entered, click Players to print the listing of teams. Teams sit at the table number equal to their team number. (Alternative not used at Wellington Club players sit at Home and Away tables. You will need to do the draw to allocate table numbers and adjust the instructions below to reflect this). If Event Details have not been pre-entered enter these now. Team numbers will be the number of the table they are sitting at before the start of Round 1. Page 1
1. Do the Draw, Start BridgePad and Upload Names Click on the correct Round number line to ensure the correct Round No. is selected. Click Draw. On the Draw screen, check that Use team No for Table is ticked. Refer to the picture here and carry out the steps below. BridgePads can be handed out and play can start after step 6. 1. Click Automatic Draw. 2. Enter A for section and the correct starting board number (1 for the first round of the night 13 or 15 or some other number for the second round). 3. Click create Remote database this sets up the file that Bridgepad stores its information in. When you have done this, the Upload Names and Start remote server buttons go black. 4. Click Team/Pair order. 5. Click View Print to print the draw. Optional to display the rolling deal on the big screen click View Draw in Browser (you must have already turned on and set up the big screen). 6. Click Start Remote Server to start Bridgepad. Enter the playing options (see BridgePad Setup below) into BridgePad and set the channel so players can use it. EW can move to their playing tables and you can hand out out boards and BridgePads for play to start. Page 2
7. When all names are in the BridgePads, click Upload Names. 8. Click Enter Names button to check names have been received. You can make manual name changes here. Allocate visitors a number of the format 999xx. 9. Click the folder icon to the right of Dealing File box to attach dealing file. The file name is on the top of the printed hand records. You will do this each round. Click Return to exit this screen. Need to Restart: If for any reason, you need to start all over again, tick Clear data from Server to delete all data in BridgePad, and click Remove Section from Database. BridgePad hangs during play: 1. You need to kill BridgePad (Ctrl+alt+Del, start the task manager, then end the BridgePad task). 2. Very important untick Clear data from Server. 3. Click Start remote server. 2. BridgePad Setup The BridgePad units are communicating with the PC if connected to RF Unit is showing Green. Check that the correct number of tables and boards are showing. Click Game Options in the top menu. Ensure settings are as shown here. Click OK. Select Communication in the top menu and select the channel the BridgePads have been set to (for a Club night, this is usually channel 12) Hand out the Bridgepads. Players can now connect and enter their player numbers and scores. Page 3
The Round is Played As players connect to the server, the word Initialized appears in the init row. During play, the squares for board/table will be populated with the results and the director can monitor that results are being received as play progresses. At the end of the round click on the BrigePad program again and check that all results have been captured (look for blank squares). If any boards have not been played (eg for lack of time), NP should be entered as the contract for that board on the BridgePad. LP on the bridgepad (late play) is used for boards that will be played at the end of the round. When all results are in, change the channel to channel 19 so no more entries can be made from the BridgePad units. Click Yes to the message that indicates you are severing the connection to BridgePad. 3. Generate Round Results, Print aned Post to the Web See next section below if any adjustment are required. Click Enter Scores on the main event page to get the Swiss Scoring screen. On the Swiss Scoring screen, click Upload Results. The panel on the right Left to Score should now be empty. Optional if displaying completed matches on large screen, click Display Results in Browser. Click Print Round Sheets. Wait until play has started for the second round or the end of the evening to hand these out. Click Return. Make sure you are showing the correct round No. Page 4
Click Calc Results and the Report Print Options box comes up. Click Print or Setup to change print setup options (eg print multiple copies). Each round consists of 2 pages. Page 1 is the IMP/VP score of the current round, Page 2 the overall placings. Click Web to post to the Web. Wait until the batch program this initiates completes. Close the BridgePad program after each round. Click Back. 4. Next Round To process the next round, click on the Round line. Round No will change and you can do the next draw and repeat the steps from Section 1, Do the Draw, Start BridgePad and Upload Names. 5. At the end of the night Exit and close BridgePad. Exit and Close Scorer. Shutdown the PC in the playing room. 6. Making Adjustments There are 5 places that adjustments can be made: 1. If the round has not ended on the BridgePad units, players can make their own changes by pressing Error and then the board number. 2. Make any re-assigned score adjustments or change the score on a specific board in the BridgePad program on the PC. Click the entry in BridgePad you want to change, and you will get a box in which you can change the score. You will need to Reset Left to Score and Upload Results again in the Scoring screen for this to take effect. Page 5
3. If the Director applies an unbalanced VP adjustment, this can be made by entering the new VP values required on the Scoring screen. 4. The Directors Adjustment button in the Scoring screen can also be used to change the score of a specific board. If you make an adjustment here, you must Reset left to Score and Upload Results again after the adjustment is made for it to take effect. 5. Penalty adjustments can be made by clicking the Adjustments button in the Event Setup screen. 7. More Complex Functions See the Scorer User Manual for instructions on more complex functions.
