1. Introduction Objective of these exercises Revise the contents from the previous exercises Create angled parts First steps in the 3D-processing Copy and move with AutoCad-functions Multiple insertion with connectors Set Free Drawers Execute different part-/edge modifications 3D-Drafts The abbreviations used CP Construction Principles PD Part Definition 3-point-button B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 3 / 33

2. Constructing in the Part Designer Different options of the furniture design are executed with the Part Designer on the basis of a Workstation-Construction consisting of an angled mitre construction. Create angled parts First steps in the 3D-Processing Copy and move with AutoCAD-Functions Multiple insertion with connectors Set Free Drawers Execute different part-/edge modifications 3D-Drafts 3. Create Order First save the order. 4. Set up Construction Part for creating the Angled Sides Create a standard part with the dimensions 520mm x 670mm and the insertion point 0,0,0. In order to do this, click on Standard Part in the tab Part Designer. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 4 / 33

Tip Enable the Dynamic Entry. Info and entry fields directly appear there where your mouse is. Enable and disable the dynamic entry with the key F12. In the drawing area enter 0,0,0 for the Startpoint of first edge. Close the entry with Enter. Afterwards move the mouse in X-direction and set 520 for the Endpoint of first edge. Close the entry with Enter. Tip Make sure the Ortho-Mode is activated. The Ortho-Mode enables to create perpendicular to one another horizontal lines. You can enable and disable the Ortho-Mode with the F8 - key. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 5 / 33

Now drag the mouse in Y-direction and enter the dimension 670. Close the entry with Enter. To enter the thickness, move the mouse in the direction where you want to span the thickness of the part (in this case to the top, Z-positive). Enter a dimension of 19. Close the entry with Enter. Hint The displayed area with the red lines marks the top side of your part. On this area the surface, set on Face of Part top in the PD, takes effect. By zooming in on the part, you can see a dashed red double line which displays the top face of the part. Now a setting dialog opens for your part on the left of the screen. Please, apply the settings from the screenshot shown on the left and close the settings with. Hint Make sure that Keep Part Thickness is always on No to ensure that a subsequent modification of the material on another thickness can be graphically displayed as well. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 6 / 33

Hint The first edge, which you have drawn when creating the standard part, is also Edge 1 on your part. At the same time Edge 1 displays the X-direction (reference edge) and the grain direction of the part. Via the settings you can change the position of the First Edge on the part. Additionally, independent from the position of the First Edge you can assign the reference edge (X-direction = Position of the panel on the machine; grain direction) to another edge on the part. Do you want to change the grain direction independent from the X-direction = Position of the panel on the machine? It is not possible in this setting dialog. Use the method Align part in 2D or Align part in 3D later. 5. Creating Angled Sides The angled sides can be created via the button Part to Edge in the tab Part Designer. After starting this function, the request appears to select the edge. Click the left, the back and the right edge of your construction panel and end the selection of the edges with a right-click. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 7 / 33

Take the settings as shown in the screenshot below and close your entires with the green checkmark. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 8 / 33

6. Create Fixed Shelves The next step is to create the fixed shelves. The procedure is that you copy the existing construction shelf and afterwards connect them to the sides. Hint With the AutoCAD-Copy function you only copy the lines of the drawing (DWG) and therefore you do not create any new imos-objects (FXF). However, you can use AutoCAD Functions such as copy or move for creating or modifying imos-objects. For this purpose, enable the 3D-workings for the relevant objects. Now the made modifications are saved in the constructive data of the order, in the FXF-File and are available for the further process of the order. (Compare with System Overview Chapter 1.1). Select the construction/auxiliary shelf of your construction. With a right mouse click in the drawing you open the context-menü. Now activate the 3D workings for this part. Hint There are 3 options to activate and deactivate the 3D workings for selected parts. In the Context menu (right-click if at least 1 part is selected) In the Ribbon menu under the tab Part Designer In the imos Manager (right-click on one or several selected parts) The 3D-workings can also be activated for several parts at the same time. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 9 / 33

The shelf is framed red and a blue square is shown in the center. This display shows that the 3D workings is activated for this part. Select the shelf by clicking on the blue square. Now open the context menu with a right-click and select Copy Selection. By doing this, it is possible to create as many copies as you like of the shelf and top position them. For creating a copy with AutoCAD-Copy, you need besides the selected (to be copied) objects, a base point and target point (second point). Select the bottom right point as base point. You will immediately receive a copy of the part on the mouse and move this part in the desired direction (to the top). Please, make sure when entering the target point that you do not snap a point on the line of a side by mistake! B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 10 / 33

Set the Second Point with a distance of 269mm to the base point (Entry 269 and Enter ). Afterwards slightly move the mouse to the top again to define the direction where the entered dimension should be active (Entry 538 and Enter ). Now you have created 2 copies of the construction shelf. End the copy function with ESC. To deactivate the 3D-workings, select the 3 shelves. Then select one of the 3 previous described methods for deactivating the 3D-workings. Tip You can also select the parts just with the rectangle selection from AutoCAD. Thereby it is irrelevant if you select more than the parts, where you would like to deactivate their 3D-workings. The program automatically reduces the selection on the parts in the status 3Dworkings. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 11 / 33

Now delete the construction shelf from the construction. For this purpose, set the imos Manager on the tab Details and there Display Complete Drawing Structure. Short term: Globe. Select the construction shelf in the drawing. In the method window of the imos Manager double click on Delete to remove the shelf from the drawing. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 12 / 33

Connect the Fixed Shelf on to the Sides Now the fixed shelf has to be connected on to the sloped cabinet sides. Select Select Edge in the imos Manager and then select the two edges on the left side of the fixed shelves. Confirm the selection with a right-click. The selected edges are displayed shaded grey in the Element list. In the method window open the folder Joint Functions and here select the method Butt Joint. Now you just have to select the left side and click the green checkmark to execute the connection of the edges. Please, repeat this process for the back and the right side! B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 13 / 33

Hint The red grids mark the selected edges. These red grids remain visible as long as the edges are selected (blue or grey shaded in the imos Manager). The red grids and with this the selection of the edges disappear with one click on Elements in the imos Manager. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 14 / 33

Drawing Structure in the imos Manager Hint By clicking Globe-> Globe in the imos Manager, you will see 2 articles in the element list. The program creates an own article for every part of the free construction. An exception is that if more than 1 part is created in this construction by means of Part to Edge, for example. Then these parts are all combined together in one article. This also applies if several parts result from Copy Selection. These copied parts are assigned to the article, which contains the Original -Part (both fixed shelves in this construction). Before starting with the definition of parts, click on Elements in the imos Manager. By setting every Part Definition on Elements at the start, ensure that their own articles are created for the next parts. If you mark a certain article before starting the part definition, then the new parts are assigned to this article. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 15 / 33

7. Insert the Partitions The next step is to construct two perpendicular partitions between the fixed shelves. Before starting with the definition of the partitions, click on Elements in the imos Manager (The explanation is shown in the previous chapter). For the definition of the partitions use the function Standard Part again. For defining the first edge, select the following points: Afterwards set the part thickness with 19 mm ( 19 and Enter ). Set the partition as shown on the left. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 16 / 33

Now the partition is finally set. Afterwards move the partition to the desired position. In order to do this, activate the 3D-workings for the partition, click the blue square and start the context menu by right clicking. Select Move and postion the partition by 135mm to the left. Hint Make sure that you snap the point on the top front edge of the fixed shelf so that there is an offset on this particular edge. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 17 / 33

For creating the second partition, keep the partition in the 3D-workings, click on the blue square again and use Copy Selection in the context menu. The blue square is selected, copy the part as described already above. Afterwards move the side to the opposite corner and position it from there by 135mm to the right as well. Finally, mark both blue squares and deactivate the 3D-workings. Now there is a division of three segments of which the two outer ones have a distance of 135mm. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 18 / 33

8. Insert the Work Surface To complete our basic construction, create the remaining parts now. Start with the work surface. In order to do this, select a standard part again. From the outer left points of the left pyramid it should obtain a Length of 2100 mm to the right and a Part Thickness of 38 mm. By picking the rear outer corner of the cabinet, you will obtain the depth. Hint When creating a standard part, the first drawn edge becomes the base line. The grain runs parallel to the base line. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 19 / 33

After defining the corner points, make the following settings in the appearing dialog: The panel becomes a part definition for a work surface without edges and a walnut veneer core material out of MDF 38mm is assigned to it. Quit the entries with the green checkmark. 9. Copy the Work Station Fillers The next step is to create the fillers for the right side. Here select the right and back side panel and activate the 3D-workings. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 20 / 33

The selection is copied and moved to the right corner of the work surface. The right, top, front edge of the right panel is used as the base line. With the Esc-key end the process. Afterwards deactivate the 3-D-workings of all parts again. Next the copied back panel is shortened and the mitre angle is modified to a straight edge again. So first pick the mitre edge and then double click on the function Modify Edge Angle in the methods of the imos Manager. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 21 / 33

A new window opens to set the Edge Angle on 0. Select that you do not want to keep the part size and confirm with the green checkmark. Leave the picked edge marked and then click on Move in the folder Move Functions. Afterwards enter an offset of 350 mm in the opened window and leave it with the green checkmark. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 22 / 33

10. Multiple Insertion of Connection Situations Switch the connectors visible in the Visu Manager! Now all parts have been set up so far and they can be fitted with connectors. Use the function of the multiple selection of connection situations for this. These are in the Methods in the register Details of the imos Manager in the folder Free Construction / Connection Situation. You find this function also in the Ribbon menü of the Part Designer tab. Start the function with a double click, then select the connection situation i_cam_fitting in the Element Manager and leave it again via Apply. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 23 / 33

Now the parts must be clicked in pairs so that they can be connected together. After leaving the Element Manager, the request appears Pick part in CAD (1) which means to select the complete right side panel first and then the work surface for part 2. Thereby the connection i_cam_fitting is inserted! In the same way insert the same connection situation on all fillers, which should be connected with the worksurface as well as the fixed shelves and partitions. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 24 / 33

Task In the further process insert the principle i_biscuit as the connection situation between the fixed shelves and the side panels. And i_biscuit_joint_mitre as the connection situation in the mitre of the side panels. Tip If the connectors are not visible, then adjust the level of your Visu-Manager. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 25 / 33

11. Insert Drawers without Articles In the middle segment of the pyramid two drawers with the function Free Drawers should be inserted now. These are also in the tab Part Designer. After selecting the function, you are requested to define the dimension of the insertion zone for the drawers. This can be done by defining the points for the width, depth and height of the drawer insertion zone. 4 2 1 Hint First snap the width dimension. You select it on the opening side of the drawer and thereby define in which direction the drawer should open. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 26 / 33

In this example the depth is defined with relative coordinates. This means that after snapping the points 1 and 2 on the pyramid, enter @0,450 (equivalent to the orientation of the coordinate system). Then snap the top corner point of the segment as the fourth point. If all points are selected, a drawer is automatically set up in the segment and a corresponding dialog window opens. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 27 / 33

In this dialog select the drawer principle and change the number of the drawers. Select the principle i_rollerrunnerslide. Change the Number of drawers to 2. When selecting more than one drawer, the program automatically divides the insertion zone equally. Finally, change the settings for the drawer front and the pulls. Pick the drawer fronts on the part level in the imos Manager. Change the Part Definition to PD_Exterior_e_e_P0000 and the Material to MDF19_WW. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 28 / 33

Both pulls will be modified via the Connection Scan. Use the pull i_handle_064mm. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 29 / 33

12. Edge Finish The visible edges are finished with a material to improve the visual appearance. For this purpose, pick all visible edges of the base-construction. Select the profile ABS_WHITE_2mm via the properties in the imos Manager. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 30 / 33

The edges of the work surface are finished with a 2 mm Walnut-Veneer. Finally, offset all edges of the work surface by 20 mm to the outside. In order to do this, use the Offset Function, which is in the methods in the Offset Functions folder. Hint If you enter a negative dimension, the part increases and with a positive dimension it decreases. Now the workstation is completed. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 31 / 33

13. 3D-Draft Tip If you would like to subsequently modify the dimension of your desk, this can be modified without any great effort by using the 3D-Draft Function. With 3D Draft it is possible to stretch and move parts or the complete article as well. The corresponding call for this is on the tab Part Designer. After calling, the request appears to span the Drafting Box over 4 points. This Box defines the selection of the parts to be stretched or moved. Hint Parts, displayed Magenta, are complete in the selection and therefore are completely moved. Blue parts are partly in the selection and therefore are stretched. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 32 / 33

By clicking once on the Box, so-called Lollipops appear where you can stretch the selection. This can take place in a positive as well as a negative direction. If you have clicked a Lollipop, it can be moved in a direction and positioned. The offset can be made manually or by entering a desired dimension. B-18 Training CAD/ Part Designer: Designing with angled parts 33 / 33
