Theater Desert Cove Elementary Students will learn fundamental theater performance and storytelling skills, including: Beginning acting techniques - Use of voice and movement - Emotional and sensory recall - Role-play and Improv - Stage directions and etiquette - Pantomime Puppetry Playwriting focused on: - The nature of conflict - How setting and time of action affects the plot - How characters are revealed through dialogue Performing for an audience, including stage presence Shea Middle Students on the intermediate theater track will learn modern acting techniques, play analysis, and technical skills in the production of live shows. Acting techniques using the Stanislavski and Boleslavsky methods Audition techniques Characterization Theater History Technical Theater and Design - Costumes - Makeup - Lighting - Sound - Scenic - Stage Management Directing techniques and peer direction. Performing Improvisation Analyzing play structure through reading and writing Resume Building Shadow Mountain High * Students continuing into the advanced theater track will learn collaboration and creation skills in the preparation of an exit portfolio. Movement and Voice for the Actor Students will learn to use their entire physical instruments in the creation, interpretation and performance of a character. Techniques covered include Laban, Viewpoints and Linklater. Musical Theater Students will gain unique technical skills required for creating engaging musical theater performances though group and solo work. This is a semester course. Film Acting Students will be provided with the techniques for auditioning and acting for the camera. This course will also cover the business of a professional actor, including landing and working with agents, unions and casting directors. Movement Techniques: - Ballet/Jazz - Modern Contemporary - Hip Hop/Urban - Strength/Conditioning Focus on creativity and personal connection to movement and techniques Performance with choreographic techniques Shea Middle Students on the intermediate dance track will hone their skills and techniques further to become a successful dancer. Movement Techniques: - Ballet - Jazz - Modern/Contemporary - Hip Hop/Urban - Strength /Conditioning Focus on creativity and personal connection to movement and choreographic techniques Learn the history of dance styles Self/peer evaluation Shadow Mountain High Students continuing into the advanced dance track will learn: Movement Techniques Modern/Contemporary, Hip Hop/Urban, Ballet, Jazz, Strength and Conditioning, discovering common body patterning and movement qualities, and healthy dance practices and anatomy Creativity Utilizing choreographic techniques and learning about personal movement studies. Gaining personal connection expression and voice in movement and techniques. Exploring and investigating dance in contexts such as technology, site specific work, dance for social awareness/ change, and dance as a community building experience. Elements of performance and production as it relates to artistic intent. Evaluation and Reflection Students learn about iteracy in dance observation and critiquing, analyze and demonstrate connections between dance and the world with art forms, history, culture, social interaction. Visual Arts Desert Cove Elementary Traditional tools and materials will collide with modern technology as our students explore a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, printing, collage and ceramics. Students will also create public works of art that will become a permanent fixture in their school and community. Field trips and guest artists will expose students to the vast and exciting careers available in the in the field of art. Students will create a digital portfolio that will grow to be a great resource for college and internship opportunities. Advanced Projects in Media This course is for advanced students who are ready to narrow their scope and hone in on specific mediums. These may include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design or 3D printing. Students will use their studio time to refine their skills and develop their own artistic style. Field trips and guest artists will expose students to the vast and exciting careers available in the in the field of art. Students will refine and make additions to their digital portfolio that will be a valuable resource for college and internship opportunities.
Music Technology New for 2016-17: Creative Musicianship and Music Technology Students in the North Valley Arts Academies at PVSchools Creative Musicianship and Music Technology Program will explore the development and production of sound by using programs such as GarageBand and Ableton Live to generate new musical expressions. This hands-on hybrid experience involves the use of Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) controllers and Digital Audio Workstations and will enable students to learn fundamentals of sound creation, use of music for expression and meaning of music within culture. In addition, students will collaborate with other NVAA programs in projects such as mixing and operating microphones for theater, as well as creating music to accompany various dance and visual art projects. Students can participate in this creative musicianship program simultaneously with band, choir or strings. Students without formal music experience can also apply. There will also be presentations from recording studios and producers in the Phoenix area, which will provide students with insight on music technology and industry.
