Basecoat slate surface with black chalkboard paint. Basecoat the insert Titanium White, dry, sand and wipe away grit. Use transfer paper as needed for transferring design line work. Lettering: Transfer lettering to slate surface. Paint with Titanium White using the size 0 Liner. 1
Painting Instructions: Sky: Pick up Titanium White on the ½ angular bristle, begin to paint across the top of the sky. Touch the brush toe lightly in Sapphire and continue painting the sky keeping colors blended. Strokes are short and choppy and the paint is blended wet on wet. Pick up either color while painting to the horizon; color becomes darker at the horizon. Ground: Clean the ½ angular bristle and remove as much wetness as possible. Begin painting the ground by pulling Titanium White across the insert at the horizon. Touch brush heel lightly in Sapphire and continue blending colors, alternating Titanium White and Sapphire to finish. Strokes are short and choppy keeping colors blended with the wet on wet technique. Brick house: With a #4 shader, pat blend the house and chimney marbleizing Rookwood Red and Georgia Clay; highlight the edge of the house and chimney top Persimmon. Paint the roof Titanium White, blending in Sapphire to shade. Use the #0 liner and Titanium White to paint the icicles. Double load the #0 liner with Sapphire and Titanium White, paint windows. Paint the pine tree next to the house Hauser Dark Green using the corner of the #4 shader. Paint the chimney smoke with watered down Titanium White. Evergreen by Mailbox: Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay to brown, double load with Titanium White onto a #0 liner, line evergreen trunk and branches to be used as reference for boughs. Use the #4 shader corner to dab Hauser Dark Green for boughs. Wipe brush and pick up Titanium White and touch randomly for snow. Paint the star Orange Twist with the #0 liner. Snowman: Pat the snowman shape Titanium White with a #4 filbert. Repeat, touching brush minimally in Sapphire, blend in shaded areas. Paint the scarf Titanium White with a #2 shader, blend in Sapphire for shading. Dry before striping with Marigold and watered Hauser Dark Green using the flattened tip of a #0 liner. Double load the #0 liner with Hauser Dark Green and Marigold to paint 2
the fringe. Paint the hat Marigold with a #0 liner. Double load the liner with Titanium White and Marigold to paint the hat brim and the pom-pom. Shade the back of the hat True Ochre. Double load the liner with Persimmon and Marigold to paint the nose. Paint eyes, nose, and buttons Lamp Black. Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay and double load with Titanium White, paint twig arms. Use the Sapphire and Georgia Clay mix double loaded with Fawn, paint the basket with the #2 shader and double load the liner to texture the weave. Double load the #0 liner with Titanium White and Lamp Black, paint the clothesline. Branches: Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay, double load with Titanium White to paint the tree branches. Mailbox: Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay and double load with Fawn, paint the mailbox post with a #4 shader using the brush on the chisel edge. Mix Lamp Black and Titanium White to a grey, paint the mailbox with a #4 shader. Add more Lamp Black to the mix to shade. Paint the flag Tomato Red with a #0 liner. Shade bottom of flag with Rookwood Red. When dry, double load the #0 liner with Titanium White and Sapphire, paint snow accents. Paint the platform line under the mail box with the Sapphire and Georgia Clay mix double loaded with Titanium White and using the liner tip flattened; accent with Titanium White for snow. Red birds: Paint the bird Tomato Red with a #2 filbert. Highlight the wing Marigold; shade under body with Rookwood Red. Dot the eye Black and paint the beak Marigold with the #0 liner. Paint the letter Titanium White with a #2 shader. Paint the stamp Tomato Red and dot with a 3
double load of Hauser Dark Green and Titanium White using the #0 liner. Water down Lamp Black and using the liner, scribble in for lettering. Stockings: Use the #0 liner to paint. Basecoat the yellow stocking Titanium White, dry and repaint Marigold, shade True Ochre. Paint the heel, toe, and dot the top Tomato Red; Hauser Dark Green for striping. Basecoat red stocking True Ochre, dry and repaint Tomato Red; stripe Titanium White, and paint heel and toe Hauser Dark Green, highlighted with Titanium White. Paint the green stocking Hauser Dark Green and highlight Titanium White; paint the heel and toe and line the top Tomato Red; dot Titanium White over the green. Paint the blue stocking Sapphire; highlight Titanium White and stripe tomato Red. Paint the heel and toe Marigold. Finishing: Use the #0 liner and Titanium White to line the clothesline with snow and icicles. Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay and double load with Titanium White for clothespins above the stockings. Load ¼ angular bristle heel with Titanium White and the toe with Sapphire; pull snow under the snowman leading with the heel. Blend into the snow. Repeat under the tree. Mix Sapphire and Georgia Clay and double load with Titanium White, pull grass sprouts with the #0 liner. Spatter snow over the surface with Titanium White using a toothbrush. 4
