They are ready to paint! Any slight imperfections can be lightly sanded. Wipe with a damp cloth. Painting Instructions: SHORT PUMPKIN This little guy is based solidly in Burnt Orange. You may need a couple of coats for good solid coverage. Once dry, drybrush over the pumpkin with Canyon Orange. Then continue, using the same brush, and add some Marigold. Drybrush this mainly over the top of the pumpkin. I then took some thinned Burnt Orange and floated this through each indention of the pumpkin (between each section) for a little more definition. The stem at the top is based in Hauser Medium Green. Drybrush this with a bit of Irish Moss, then 1
drybrush once again, mainly over the top, with a bit of Marigold. I also added a small swirl (coming down from the stem) with Hauser Medium Green. One eye is based in Irish Moss and the other eye is based in Marigold. I drybrushed the center of the Irish Moss eye with Marigold and I drybrushed the center of the Marigold eye with a bit of Irish Moss! I finely outlined around each eye with Black, using my pen. I also used my pen to create a small swirl in each eye. I then dotted each eye with Black for a pupil and then added a very tiny Warm White in each eye as a highlight. I added the eyelashes with my Black pen as well. The nose is based in Warm White. I applied two coats and let them dry in-between coats for a good coverage. I wanted to paint the nose like a candy corn, so I painted the middle section solidly with Burnt Orange and the bottom section solidly in Marigold. (Top section is left in Warm White). I finely outlined around the nose with Black and added a thin Warm White accent down the right side of the nose. The mouth is lined in Black and the cheeks are drybrushed in Tomato Red. The spider on top is done in Black (I used the pen to add the legs). Its eyes are dotted with Canyon Orange and he has a Warm White accent mark on this body. I also added small Warm White stars at the top (every other section). TALL PUMPKIN I wanted this pumpkin to be a bit of a different color, so I basecoated this pumpkin solidly in Burnt Sienna. You may need a few coats to get a good solid coverage. (Remember to let dry between coats for best results). Once dry, drybrush the pumpkin with Burnt Orange. Then drybrush again with Canyon Orange, concentrating most of the Canyon Orange around the top. I then took some thinned Russet and floated this through each indention of the pumpkin (between each section) for a little more definition. The stem at the top is based in Hauser Medium Green. Drybrush this with a bit of Irish Moss, then drybrush once again, mainly over the top, with a bit of Marigold. I wanted to add something a little extra, so I added a stripe around the lower part of the pumpkin with solid Warm White. I then went back and painted every other square in Black. I also outlined the stripe (top and bottom) with 2
Black, using my pen. I then took Russet and shaded under the stripe and above the stripe as well, so it really stands out. His eyes are based in Marigold. The top of his eyes (or his eyelids) are based in solid Canyon Orange. The pupils are Black, along with Warm White dots and accents to each eye. The eyes are also finely outlined in Black, as well as a few eyelashes. The nose is based solidly in Burnt Sienna. I thinned a bit of Canyon Orange to add a few criss-cross lines over the nose. The nose is also finely outlined in Black. The mouth is also Black with the cheeks drybrushed in Tomato Red. The spider on top is done in Black (I used the pen to add the legs). Its eyes are dotted with Canyon Orange and he has a Warm White accent mark on this body. The small moon (near the stem) is done in solid Marigold. I also added a few Warm White stars around this area as well. Finishing: Once everything has dried, we will just need to seal! I spray sealed mine with a couple of coats (let dry in-between coats) of Americana Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher, Matte. 3
