4 TOUGHENED GLASS Toughened Glass Toughened glass, as the name suggests, is not easy to break. It is inherently much safer and 4-5 times stronger than its equivalent thickness of normal annealed glass. Tempered glass is made by uniformly heating annealed glass to a temperature of up to 650 C to 700 C and immediately cooling it. The term toughened glass is generally used to describe fully tempered glass but is sometimes also used to describe heat strengthened glass as both types undergo a thermal 'toughening' process. There are two main types of heat treated glass. 1. Heat strengthened (HS). 2. Fully tempered (FT). Heat strengthened glass is two times stronger than annealed glass whilst fully tempered glass is typically four to five times the strength of annealed glass. The difference is the residual stress in the edge and glass surface. It is important to note that while the strength of the glass does not change the deflection, being stronger means that it can deflect more before breaking. Annealed glass deflects less than tempered glass under the same load, all else being equal. 6 INSULATING GLASS Insulating Glass Insulating Glass from SK Tuff is made keeping in view all the required quality standards on a fully automatic insulating line. Insulating Glass (IG) also popularly known as Double or Triple glass is made by using two or three glass panes hermetically sealed together with an Aluminium spacer in between the glass panes. The space between the two glasses is filled with Air or any other Gas like Argon etc. The glass panes in the Insulated unit can be Tempered or Heat Strengthened. It is strongly recommended to heat treat the glass panes of an Insulated Unit to avoid the chances of glass breakage due to thermal stresses. An insulated unit is made by sealing the Glass panes with a hollow Aluminium spacer with two sealants, a primary sealant having resistance to water and moisture transmission, Polyisobutalyne, and a secondary sealant Structural silicon which finally seals the unit hermetically. The hollow aluminium spacer is filled with small granules, known as Desiccant, which act as a moisture absorbent. 7 Advantages Heat Control: An insulated unit as the name says insulates the interiors from the heat outside. It allows the natural sunlight to come in but at the same time prevents the transmission of heat causing radiation into the glazed area and thus reduces the Air conditioning cost to a great extent. Noise Control: An insulated unit also acts as a sound barrier and provides comfort to the occupants from noisy atmosphere. 8 LAMINATED GLASS Laminated Glass Safety Security Silence At SK Tuff Laminated glass is made conforming to the International standards with a world class manufacturing line for lamination. Laminated glass, popularly known as Safety glass, consist of two or more panes of glass with one or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sandwiched between them and treated. This type of glass is also known as Sandwiched Glass The glass panes can be tempered, heat strengthened or annealed. The glass being used can be clear, tinted, reflective, solar control or high performance low-e glass. It is a type of safety and security glass which holds the glasses together when shattered or broken. The PVB interlayer between the two glasses has an inherent property to keep the layers of glasses bonded in the event of breakage. The PVB Interlayer between the two glass panes is available in a wide range of colours. Pre dominantly a clear PVB interlayer is used in the Laminated Glass units. Bulletproof Glass Bullet Proof Glass (also known as ballistic glass, transparent armour or bullet-resistant glass) is a type of strong but optically transparent material that is particularly resistant to being penetrated when struck by bullets. 9 Eva Lamination EVA lamination provides a facility to laminate two glasses with a Fabric in between two glass panes. The fabric laminated glass can be put to use in Interiors to give a classy and stylish look to the interiors of a space. Advantages Shatter Proof, Burglar Proof, intrusion resistant : The glass unit remains at its place even if it breaks, thereby preventing any accidents and intrusion into the glazed area Noise Control: Laminated glass has proved to be an excellent barrier to the noise because of the dampening properties of the PVB interlayer. UV Control: The PVB interlayer cuts the Ultra Violet radiation transmission to almost less than 1% and thus prevents the costly interiors/furniture and upholstery from fading and also the occupants from itching. 10 DIGITAL PRINTED GLASS Digital Printed Glass With the evolution in the building facade designs, Digital Printed glass has given a new dimension to the aesthetics of the conventional glass walls in the buildings. With this revolutionary technology the monotonous building facade can now be more lively and dynamic by sporting different colours, images or logos etc printed on to the glass. At SK Tuff we provide Digital Printed glass made with a new age technology where we can print multicolour images on the glass from any kind of file input viz. JPG, Jpeg, Tiff, Postscript 3, Eps. Simply an Image of the desired print (Photograph, Logo, Abstract design etc.) in the aforementioned format is required and the same can be printed on the glass, which may be annealed or heat treated, with UV technology. This can be done on clear, extra clear glass, mirrors, laminated glass and IG units. Digital printed glass from SK Tuff can be used for exterior & interior application. Ceramic Printed & Lacquered Glass Ceramic Printing: With this technology special enamel in a single colour can be printed on the glass in the form of a pattern or completely with the help of a screen. After printing, the glass is tempered so that the enamel gets fused into the glass. This type of glass is also weather proof and can be used for exteriors or interiors as per requirement. There are certain colour limitations in this type of technology. Lacquered Glass: Special European lacquer paint is sprayed on the glass to give different colour or patterns on the glass. It can be done on annealed or heat treated glass. In case of heat treated glass, the paint job is done after the heat treatment. Lacquered glass is mostly recommended for Interior and decorative applications.
