BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. STITCH EXPLANATIONS Seed St (odd number of sts) Row 1 K 1, *p 1, k 1; rep from * across. Row 2 K the purl sts, and p the knit sts as they present themselves. Rep Row 2 for pattern. Inc1 (increase one) Knit in front and back of next stitch. Lace Edging Note To yo at beg of row and/or before p2tog, bring yarn OVER needle to the front before p2tog. With largest needles, cast on 6 sts. Row 1 (RS) Yo, p2tog, k 2, yo, k 2 7 sts. Row 2 K 5, yo, p2tog. Row 3 Yo, p2tog, k 2, yo, k 1, yo, k 2 9 sts. Row 4 K 7, yo, p2tog. Row 5 Yo, p2tog, k 2, (yo, k 1) 3 times, yo, k 2 13 sts. Row 6 Bind off 7 as if to knit, k 3, yo, p2tog 6 sts. With RS facing and middle size needles, pick up and k 71 sts evenly spaced along the straight side edge. Work 18 rows in Seed st (Body measures approximately 7" from scalloped edge of lace). Divide for Fronts and Back, and shape armholes as follows Work 14 sts and place on holder; bind off 7 sts; work 28 sts and leave on needle; bind off 7 sts; work rem sts and place on holder. Fasten off. BACK Turn work to RS and join yarn to Back. Work even until armhole measures 4½ ". Bind off. FRONT Slip 14 sts from holder to middle size needle, join yarn at armhole edge. Bind off. Work other Front to correspond. SLEEVES With middle size needle, cast on 16 sts. Row 1 (WS) Purl. Row 2 K 1, *yo, k2tog; rep from *, end yo, k 1 17 sts, hem complete. Row 3 Purl. Row 4 Knit. Row 5 P 1, *k 1, p 1; rep from * across. Rows 6 and 7 Cont in K1, P1 Rib. Row 8 Inc1 in first st, seed st across to last st, inc1 in last st. Continue in Seed st, inc1 st each end every 3rd row, 6 times more 31 sts. Work even until Sleeve measures 6½" from beg. Bind off. Hemmed Sleeve measures 6" long FINISHING With RS facing, sew Fronts to Back, leaving center 13 sts of Back for neck. With RS facing, sew Sleeves to armholes, leaving bound off sts of armhole free. Sew those sts to sides of Sleeves for 1". Sew Sleeve seams. Turn hem to WS and sew invisibly. Neck Band With RS facing and smallest needles pick up 25 sts around neck edge. Front Button Band With RS facing and smallest size needles, pick up and k 37 sts between sewn edge of neckband hem and the scalloped edge of lace (leaving scalloped edge free). Work 2 rows in K1, P1 Rib. Bind off in Rib. Front Buttonhole Band Pick up and k 37 sts as for button band. Row 1 K 1, p 1, *bind off next st, counting 1 st on right-hand needle, Rib 6 sts more (so there are 7 sts between each 1-st buttonhole); rep from * 4 times more, end last rep Rib 2 sts.

HAT With largest size needles, cast on 6 sts and work 10 rep of Lace Edging. Bind off lace. With RS facing and smallest size needles, pick up and k 59 sts evenly spaced along the straight side edge. Work 3 rows in K1, P1 Rib. Change to middle size needles and work even in Seed st for 3¾" from beg of Rib, ending after a WS row. Note WS of Lace is RS of hat. Shape Crown Row 1 Seed 8 sts, k3tog, (seed 9 sts, k3tog) 4 times 49 sts. Rows 2, 4, 6 and 8 Work 1 row even. Row 3 Seed 6 sts, k3tog, (seed 7 sts, k3tog) 4 times 39 sts. Row 5 Seed 4 sts, k3tog, (seed 5 sts, k3tog) 4 times 29 sts. Row 7 Seed 2 sts, k3tog, (seed 3 sts, k3tog) 4 times 19 sts. Row 9 K3tog, (p1, k3tog) 4 times 9 sts. Break off yarn, leaving strand long enough to sew seam. Draw yarn through rem sts; tighten and secure. With RS tog, sew Hat seam. Turn work so that the RS of lace are tog. Sew seam leaving scalloped edge free. Fold lace to RS of Hat and tack down if desired. BLANKET With middle size needles, cast on 77 sts. Work in Seed St for 28". Bind off. Edging With largest size needles, work 72 repeats of Lace Edging. Sew short edges together invisibly, leaving the scalloped edge free. Position Edging so that there are 16 rep along each short edge; 18 rep across each long edge; and 1 rep in each corner. Sew Edging to blanket invisibly.
