Loading Sounds Before you begin to load anything, we suggest that you save all of your user data as an "ALL" file to your removable media. This safeguard will keep you from permanently losing any of your sounds or settings. Loading: Four different banks (four pairs of files) are provided, each of which requires a different amount of sample RAM to load. All banks are named identically, except for the last three characters. These characters specify the amount of sample RAM (in megabytes) each bank will require: 76Mb, 59Mb, 59Mb (alternate sample set), and 46Mb. To play the piano sounds, use your computer to copy one of these pairs of files onto your storage media and load it into the Motif ES. For example, to load the 76Mb bank, you will need to copy both STEIN_76.W7A and STEIN_76.W8A to your storage media. Note that the Motif ES' screen will only display STEIN_76.W7A. You will not see STEIN_76.W8A listed, but the Motif ES will use it automatically in the loading process. You will find performances at the beginning of the Performance bank. Voices will be at the beginning of the User 2 Voice bank. Because RAM samples are not retained in memory when the unit is turned off, you will need to load one of these banks each time the unit it turned on. If you like to edit your sounds, we recommend saving an All Waveform file and reloading that for subsequent uses. Loading an All Waveform file will not overwrite your edited voices and performances. Loading any of the supplied All files will. Bank descriptions: - STEIN_76.W7A and STEIN_76.W8A The largest bank. Uses all available sampled notes at 44.1kHz sampling frequency. 76Mb RAM required. - STEIN_59.W7A and STEIN_59.W8A Uses fewer sampled notes, all at 44.1kHz sampling frequency. 59Mb RAM required. - STEIN59B.W7A and STEIN59B.W8A Uses all available sampled notes, with ff samples at 44.1kHz sampling frequency and mf samples at 22.05kHz sampling frequency. 59Mb RAM required. - STEIN_46.W7A and STEIN_46.W8A Uses fewer sampled notes, with ff samples at 44.1kHz sampling frequency and mf samples at 22.05kHz sampling frequency. 46Mb RAM required. For more information about file types and loading, see the File Mode chapter of the Motif ES manual, especially pages 269-270.

Voice List Ap: Studio 1 Full, dynamic grand piano. The velocity response is tailored to provide a present, studio sound. Velocity-switched. Ap: Studio 2 Similar to Ap: Studio 1, except with a brighter, more restricted velocity response. Velocity-switched. Ap: Jazzer Compared to the "Studio" voices, this piano is slightly warmer, and it has a greater velocity-to-amplitude response. The dynamic range of this piano makes it easy to achieve soft comping in the left hand and present solo lines in the right hand. Velocityswitched. Ap: Dynamic Velocity-switched piano with a large dynamic response. Soft velocities yield very warm tones while hard velocities yield assertive tones. Ap: Classical Warm, velocity-switched piano suited to classical music. Acoustically intimate. Ap: Recital 1 Similar to "Ap: Classical," but with simulated recital hall acoustics. Ap: Recital 2 Alternate recital hall piano. The stereo imaging of this piano causes it to sound more distant than "Ap: Recital 1." Ap: TV Drama Warm, heavily-compressed piano designed for TV or film scoring. Try playing sparse notes in the upper register. Ap: Resonant Compressed piano with emphasized mid range frequencies. Ap: Bright Bright piano with a somewhat restricted velocity response. Velocityswitched. Ap: Compressed Bright, heavily-compressed piano designed to cut through dense mixes. Ap: Razor Extremely bright piano with heavy compression and moderate use of a phaser effect. Designed for use as a dance piano or special effect. Ap: Studio 1ff Single velocity version of "Ap: Studio 1." Uses ff velocity only. Ap: Studio 2ff Single velocity version of "Ap: Studio 2." Uses ff velocity only. Ap: Jazzer ff Single velocity version of "Ap: Jazzer." Uses ff velocity only. Ap: Dynamic ff Single velocity version of "Ap: Dynamic." Uses ff velocity only. "Ap: Bright ff" Single velocity version of "Ap: Bright." Uses ff velocity only. Ap: Classic mf Single velocity version of Ap: Classic. Uses mf velocity only.

Ap: Drama mf Single velocity version of Ap: TV Drama. Uses mf velocity only. Compared to "Ap: TV Drama," this voice has a warmer tone. Pd: KS SoftPad Warm synth pad. Sc: Bell Puff Responsive synth comping timbre combining bells and breathy pad. Reminiscent of the Roland D-50 synthesizer. Dr: KS LH Perc Layered percussion used in Performance mode. Combines timpani, bass drum, and cymbal crash. Br: Vel Sectns Brass section with velocity triggered octave doubling. KS V-Strgs Large string section with velocity triggered octave doubling. Me: BOOM! Huge low-frequency hit perfect for a dramatic moment. Pd: Stack Pad Complex pad with warm, breathy, and string layers. Br: Brass8v Brass section octaves. Or: Gritty B3 Dirty B3 organ useful in a variety of styles. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed. Or: Gospel B3 Alternate B3 organ. Great for gospel styles. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed.

Performance List Ap: TIMEstack Huge dramatic layers including piano, pads, strings, percolating synth arpeggios, and a low end hit in the left hand. Ap: Pno+Orch 1 Piano layered with strings, brass, and percussion. Hard velocities trigger string and brass octaves, as well as cymbal crashes in the left hand. Mod wheel lowers volume of strings and brass, allowing you to create sfp dynamics. Ap: Pno+Orch 2 Piano layered with strings and woodwinds. Soft velocities trigger pizzicato strings. Hard velocities trigger string octaves. Mod wheel lowers volume of legato strings. Ap: BalladPno1 Piano layered with FM electric piano and warm pad. Hard velocities trigger bells in upper range of the keyboard. Mod wheel lowers the filter cutoff frequency of the synth pad. Ap: BalladPno2 Piano layered with Rhodes electric piano. Mod wheel controls Rhodes tremolo. Ap: BalladPno3 Piano layered with bells and breathy pad. Ap: @ Church Keyboard split suitable for gospel styles. Right hand plays piano, B3 organ, and synth brass.
