Loading Sounds Before you begin to load anything, we suggest that you save all of your user data as an "ALL" file to your removable media. This safeguard will keep you from permanently losing any of your sounds or settings. Loading: Four different banks (four pairs of files) are provided, each of which requires a different amount of sample RAM to load. All banks are named identically, except for the last three characters. These characters specify the amount of sample RAM (in megabytes) each bank will require: 145Mb, 127Mb, 106Mb, or 92Mb. To play the piano sounds, use your computer to copy one of these pairs of files onto your storage media and load it into the Motif ES. For example, to load the 127Mb piano, you'll need to copy both KAWAI_127.W7A and KAWAI_127.W8A to the storage media. Note that the Motif ES' screen will only display KAWAI_127.W7A. You will not see KAWAI_127.W8A listed, but the Motif ES will use it automatically in the loading process. You will find performances at the beginning of the Performance bank. Voices will be at the beginning of the User 2 Voice bank. Because RAM samples are not retained in memory when the unit is turned off, you will need to load one of these banks each time the unit it turned on. If you like to edit your sounds, we recommend saving an All Waveform file and reloading that for subsequent uses. Loading an All Waveform file will not overwrite your edited voices and performances. Loading any of the supplied All files will. Bank descriptions: - KAWAI145.W7A and KAWAI145.W8A The largest bank. Uses all available sampled notes at 44.1kHz sampling frequency. 145Mb RAM required. - KAWAI127.W7A and KAWAI127.W8A Uses fewer sampled notes, all at 44.1kHz sampling frequency. 127Mb RAM required. - KAWAI106.W7A and KAWAI106.W8A Uses all available sampled notes, with ff samples at 44.1kHz sampling frequency and mf samples at 22.05kHz sampling frequency. 106Mb RAM required. - KAWAI_92.W7A and KAWAI_92.W8A Uses fewer sampled notes, with ff samples at 44.1kHz sampling frequency and mf samples at 22.05kHz sampling frequency. 92Mb RAM required. For more information about file types and loading, see the File Mode chapter of the Motif ES manual, especially pages 269-270.

Voice List AP: Studio VS Full, dynamic grand piano with enhanced sustain. The velocity-toamplitude response is tailored to provide a present, studio sound. Velocity-switched. AP: Studio VSx Identical to AP: Studio VS, except with greater velocity-to-amplitude response. AP: Mix Piano VS Identical to AP: Studio VS, except with restricted velocity-toamplitude response. Its consistent volume gives it presence in dense mixes or performances. AP: Bright VS Velocity-switched piano with enhanced sustain and a bright dynamic response. Playing softly will still yield a warm tone (though not as warm as AP: Studio VS ), and playing forcefully will yield a bright, aggressive timbre. AP: Rocker ff Aggressive piano with a decidedly bright dynamic response. Although velocity does control the timbre to a degree, this piano will remain bright regardless of velocity. Uses ff velocity only. AP: Hyper! VS Similar to AP: Bright VS, but processed to have a crisp, metallic character. Velocity-switched. AP: Hyper 2 VS Highly compressed and effected piano ideal for aggressive interludes. (Not designed for most standard applications.) Velocity-switched. AP: Mono VS Summed mono piano with a bright response. Velocity-switched. AP: Classic VS Warm piano with enhanced sustain. Velocity-switched. AP: Natural VS Similar to AP: Studio VS, but without enhanced sustain. This voice emulates the rapid natural decay of an unprocessed recorded piano. Velocity-switched. AP: Warm mf Mellow piano with enhanced sustain. Uses mf velocity only. AP: Tender Identical to AP: Warm mf, except with a prominent reverb that adds drama to a sparsely played passage. Designed for emotional cinematic moments. AP: Recital Warm, responsive piano with enhanced sustain. Compared to AP: Warm mf, this piano has a wider, slightly brighter dynamic response. Prominent reverb simulates a concert hall. Uses mf velocity only. AP: Clear VS Aggressive, enhanced piano. Velocity-switched. AP: Dark VS Similar to AP: Clear VS, but with a darker resonant quality. Velocityswitched. AP: Studio ff Single velocity version of AP: Studio VS. Uses ff velocity only. AP: Mix Pno ff Single velocity version of AP: Mix Piano VS. Uses ff velocity only.

AP: Classic ff Single velocity version of AP: Classic VS. Uses ff velocity only. AP: Natural ff Single velocity version of AP: Natural ff. Uses ff velocity only. Pd: KS SoftPad Warm synth pad. Sc: Bell Puff Responsive synth comping timbre combining bells and breathy pad. Reminiscent of the Roland D-50 synthesizer. Dr: KS LH Perc Layered percussion used in Performance mode. Combines timpani, bass drum, and cymbal crash. Br: Vel Sectns Brass section with velocity triggered octave doubling. KS V-Strgs Large string section with velocity triggered octave doubling. Me: BOOM! Huge low-frequency hit perfect for a dramatic moment. Pd: Stack Pad Complex pad with warm, breathy, and string layers. Br: Brass8v Brass section octaves. Or: Gritty B3 Dirty B3 organ useful in a variety of styles. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed. Or: Gospel B3 Alternate B3 organ. Great for gospel styles. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed.

Performance List Ap: TIMEstack Huge dramatic layers including piano, pads, strings, percolating synth arpeggios, and a low end hit in the left hand. Ap: Pno+Orch 1 Piano layered with strings, brass, and percussion. Hard velocities trigger string and brass octaves, as well as cymbal crashes in the left hand. Mod wheel lowers volume of strings and brass, allowing you to create sfp dynamics. Ap: Pno+Orch 2 Piano layered with strings and woodwinds. Soft velocities trigger pizzicato strings. Hard velocities trigger string octaves. Mod wheel lowers volume of legato strings. Ap: BalladPno1 Piano layered with FM electric piano and warm pad. Hard velocities trigger bells in upper range of the keyboard. Mod wheel lowers the filter cutoff frequency of the synth pad. Ap: BalladPno2 Piano layered with Rhodes electric piano. Mod wheel controls Rhodes tremolo. Ap: BalladPno3 Piano layered with bells and breathy pad. Ap: @ Church Keyboard split suitable for gospel styles. Right hand plays piano, B3 organ, and synth brass. Left hand plays velocity-switched electric bass. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed. Ap: Combo Funk Funk oriented keyboard split with 5 selectable drum patterns. Right hand plays piano and B3 organ. Left hand plays velocity-switched bass. The mod wheel controls the rotary speaker speed. Ap: Combo Jazz Jazz oriented keyboard split with 5 selectable drum patterns. Right hand plays piano. Left hand plays acoustic bass. Ap: Combo Pop Keyboard split with 5 selectable drum patterns ideal for pop ballads. Right hand plays piano. Left hand plays electric bass.
