Questions? Since I may cover your question in the presentation could you please hold your questions until the end as we have a lot to cover.

Goals of this presentation I want to keep this presentation very simple and high level. Tell the Fusion story adding the key elements that make it great! Create interest in Fusion to promote more activity and more users.

Agenda for this presentation Welcome What is Fusion Product Line Introduction The Fusion Radios The Fusion Repeater The Fusion Network WIRES-X Explained Where are the Fusion repeaters 2 Fusion Demos Questions and Answers

What is Fusion? Here s how It looks Purple trace is the C4FM signal. Blue trace is a +/- 5 khz analog FM signal heavily modulated by a male voice. Yellow is the same transmitter with no modulation present. 20 KHz span in red 10 KHz span in green

What is Fusion? Who has heard of System Fusion? 4th Digital ham radio option is a charm P25 DMR D-Star Fusion No radio programming or code plugs required Uses very clear C4FM similar to P25 3 modes of operation Digital only Analog only Mixed mode digital and analog or Automatic Mode Select (AMS) AMS explained how it really works

AMS Switching the receive radio to the same mode

What is Fusion? Two transmission bandwidth modes 6.25 KHz digital narrow (DN) Forward error correction GPS tracking information 12.5 KHz voice wide (VW) No forward error correction or GPS tracking Better voice quality

GPS shows miles between radios Wow 3489 miles away!

What is Fusion? Extended range over analog repeaters Can operate as a standalone repeater... but like other digital modes, the internet connection takes you beyond the geography of your local repeater. As an individual you can build adhoc networks without permissions, agreements, licenses or anything. Trivia The Fusion DSP technology and great voice quality is a product of Motorola s brief ownership.

Understanding how it works (via internet) Repeater W1AW

WIRES-X is the hardware connection device connecting the radio to the internet. It requires WIRES-X software to run on a PC. When you buy one, Yaesu assigns to your WIRES-X box a User ID and a Room ID. Have your room be something you are interested in. ie a room to help with DX spotting What is WIRES-X?

What can a WIRES-X box attach to: A node radio A Fusion repeater

What is a (simplex) node? Great option to access the Fusion network when a local Fusion repeater is not available. It allows a radio to connect to the internet What comprises a node connection? An FTM-100, FTM-400 radio (for digital) or any analog transceiver with a packet connector A WIRES-X HRI-200 A 10 pin (digital) or 6 pin (analog) serial cable to connect the WIRES-X HRI-200 to the radio A PC computer running the WIRES-X software A USB cable to connect the WIRES-X HRI-200 to the PC computer Any radio Fusion or analog to talk to the node

2 ways to use a node radio Long range vs. Short range coverage

Additional feature of a node radio A node radio can be used as a RF relay link for a repeater Traditionally a repeater that is tied to the internet has internet at the repeater site. If a repeater is at a site where there is no internet access then the RF relay link method can be employed. The node is set to the repeater frequency at a site that has internet and works in reverse relaying signals back and forth.

DR-1X Fusion Repeater C4FM digital/conventional FM Dual band covering VHF/UHF amateur radio bands Unique AMS communications Low price entry point for clubs of $600, may change in 2017

DR-1X hardware features 3.5 Full color touch panel operation incredibly easy set up!!! RF Output Power: 50w / 20w / 5w Front panel microphone connector is provided for repeater transmitter testing operating on the repeater output. Advanced Operation: The rear panel control I/O port permits connecting a repeater controller.

DR-1X hardware features Internal AC Power Supply 19 Rack Mount Capable DSQ (Digital Squelch Code) CTCSS and DCS Signaling ID Announcement (Voice Mode: Requires FVS-2) although there a better voice options out there. TOT (Time Out Timer) Firmware Updates

What does the WIRES-X software do? It connects your WIRES-X box to the rest of the Yaesu universe. It let s the user connect through the internet to the room that you want to talk to. Also is a great way to find out what rooms are available and how many users are connected. Provides a texting box handy during nets.

System Fusion Voice Demo And Live View of WIRES-X

Fusion in review Why it s great Like D-Star built for amateur radio from the ground up Easiest to use NO PROGRAMMING or CODE PLUGS!!! Literally enter the repeater frequency and that s it! Great audio quality Easiest most flexible connectivity with WIRES-X using either a simplex node or a Fusion repeater. Fastest growing digital voice mode Yaesu Fusion WIRES-X node list

Fusion in review Why it s great It livens up quiet silo repeaters giving you someone to listen or talk to. Great option if you live in a restricted community with covenants and HOA s. Great alternative to quiet HF Bands Actual conversations with DX stations like going on a trip without ever leaving your house! Like any digital mode what a great way to get younger people into the hobby.
