The Award Ceremony took place on September 24 during the KUNSTSTOFFEN trade show in Veldhoven, Netherlands. With this award, FPV and SPE want to honor companies that have excelled with regard to innovation in the plastics industry. This new award was accessible for all companies playing a role in the value chain of plastic products, from the larger chemical companies to the plastic converting SMEs, without exceptions. The awards recognize efforts in engineering and product development by companies active in the complete polymers and plastics supply chain-from the larger raw material corporations, additives, tooling and equipment suppliers-to the smaller and medium-sized converting enterprises. Eight categories were defined in which innovative solutions for the plastics industry could be submitted: Best Plastics Design Plastics and Electronics Material Innovation Hybrid Products Best Substitute Products Best Lightweight Innovation New Surfaces for Plastics Parts Recycling The evaluation of the parts was made by recognized specialists from different branches of the plastics industry and the academic institutions. From the 35 submitted parts, 24 were retained for the competition and 8 runner-ups + winners were nominated. The list of Award winning companies and products can be found below. Moving FORWARD on the digital path Everything goes over the web these days, whether it is a search for common information or a difficult solution, our young engineers will first 'Google it' before turning to trusted sources like SPE. SPE s track to become more relevant in the internet arena: As most of you know, SPE launched its new website just before ANTEC Las Vegas last April. In addition to the updated look and feel, the website uses mobile technology, enabling mobile users an easier access and experience. Since we launched the new website, traffic has been up 20% and the bounce rate (people leaving a site immediately without consulting other pages) has dropped from 60% to 20%. This means the new site is making people curious to find out more. Interesting to know is that from now on all Sections, Divisions and SIGs who want to have a micro-site hosted on our master-site can do so. The design of the site, the navigation and some general templates are already there and the group will only have to upload and manage its content. The micro-site will be 100% controlled by you. Please contact Tom Conklin at tconklin@4spe.org for more information. The main move forward in the upcoming months will be the launch of "The CHAIN", SPE's e-professional networking site. This platform will enable us to have discussions with members and plastics professionals around the globe on technology-relevant subjects in our industry. With "The CHAIN" linked to our technical database, we hope plastics engineers will soon be doing a "CHAINsearch" before Googling. Watch out for more news on this in the coming weeks...
