Young people work on exciting creative projects and get one-to-one assistance, guidance and support from techspace Educators and volunteer mentors. Our mission is to inspire and empower young people to use their native interest in technology to master 21st century learning skills and become digital creators. This November we are introducing a new programme encompassing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) activities for children and teens. For ages 8-12 years these activities include: Circuit Boards This includes experimenting with batteries, bulbs, switches and other electrical components and is a great introduction to start tinkering with circuits. Paper & sewn Circuits Making simple or complex electrical circuits on a piece of paper or create wearable technology. Makey Makey workshops The Makey Makey is a highly intuitive invention kit that encourages people to find creative ways to interact with their computers, buy using everyday objects such as a banana or Play-Doh as a replacement for keyboards and mice. Scribble Machines Scribbling machines are motorised contraptions that move in unusual ways and leave a mark to trace their paths. For the older age groups 14+ we will do soldering workshops to create your own mono amplifier kit and boom box. In 2016 we will further develop this programme by incorporating a new Creative Media Suite encompassing video and sound equipment for workshops with young adults and adults. The tech club will start on Monday nights and will eventually be rolled out to Saturdays.
