Weekly Events First week down! Now that the first week is over and the dust has finally settled, this week the welcome events pick back up! Make sure you make it out to the Alameda Mall (the lawn between Heafy and Bannan) this Wednesday for the official Club Day. All of the clubs and organizations on campus will be tabling. It s a great opportunity to learn more about what is available and to start becoming involved with on-campus activities. Lunchtime Thursday, The SBA will be holding an information meeting about class representative elections and The Advocate, the SCU Law run newspaper, is holding their first general meeting. Thursday night there will also be a social hosted by your SBA VPs Chris Glass & Kevin Song at Motif in San Jose, after the SIPLA bbq. Hopefully see you there! Have a great week! SANTA CLARA LAW, A LETTER FROM THE SBA PRESIDENT THE STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION WELCOMES YOU! Grant Atkinson SCU Law Friends, It is my pleasure to officially welcome us all to the 2012-2013 academic year! It s been great seeing everyone back on campus and I ve had a wonderful time getting to know the incoming class of 2015/2016 and transfer students. PRESIDENT, 2013-2013 STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION J.D. Candidate, 2013 Santa Clara University School of Law The first couple weeks of school are always a very busy time for the SBA and we ve got a lot going on this week. First, the SBA is hosting the first Council of Leaders meeting this Monday from 12:00-1:00 PM in Bannan 127. At this meeting, we will go over the Law Student Organization (LSO) budget allocation process and discuss the rules and procedures regarding LSO fund usage. Second, this Wednesday the SBA is hosting Club Day on the Alameda Mall (the lawn in between Bannan and Heafy) from 12:00-1:00 PM and from 5:00-6:00 PM. Club Day is a great opportunity to learn about all the various Law Student Organizations on campus and sign up to join any clubs you might be interested in. Third, this Thursday the SBA is holding information meetings for students interested in running for Class Representative positions in Bannan 241 from 12:00-1:00 PM and from 5:15-6:00 PM. Up to four representatives will be elected from each class/division (1L, 2L, 3L, PT, LLM), and Elections will be held August 29th, 30th and 31st. If you are interested in running for a Class Representative position, you must attend one of the information meetings. Finally, this Thursday evening the SBA invites you to join us for the first Bar Review of the academic year at 9:00 PM at Motif Restaurant and Club in downtown San Jose. Student Services Notes Monday, August 20, 2012 60% Tuition Refund classes dropped this week (August 20-August 24) The SBA is sponsoring Club Day this Wednesday! Come to the Alameda Mall from 12-1 pm or 5-6pm. Students choosing to take a class on a Pass/No Pass basis must submit the required form by Friday, September 7 th. This option may only be used for elective courses. It is strongly recommended that students do not take courses pass/no pass in their final semester. Pick up the form at Law Student Services or fill it out online http://www.law.scu.edu/studentservices/file/p- NP%202009.pdf and return it to Law Student Services by Friday, September 7. Don t buy those plane tickets yet! Check your exam schedule first! The Fall 2012 Exam Period runs from November 28 December 14. Check your registration schedule to find the exact dates of your exams. Do not make any travel or vacation plans during this time period. The Law School will not reschedule finals due to travel plans. Exams will be rescheduled only for extraordinary and compelling reasons beyond the student s control. Please, please please write your exam dates on your calendar and do not schedule anything during your exam period. Attention First Year Law Students!
