Don t worry so did I, until I got on the phone like a bull-dog and decided to make 1,000 calls or quit this business here s the result of me working through my FEAR and breaking through the other side, so to speak. I get asked all the time: "Robert, do you call your leads or do you mail them?" I do both. Here's my formula. It can work for you: 1) You make 50 calls a day--it will take you about 2-3 hours 2) Those you don't get hold of, drop a post-card in the mail to them. That's my formula. Here's how this system has worked for me in the past: 50 calls a day times 20 days in a month = 1,000 calls a month 1,000 calls a month equals 12,000 calls a year. Do you think you can make 12,000 calls a year? Sure, you can. And you MUST have the proper expectations. I sell leads with phone numbers, you know. And, I get people who buy these leads and EXPECT everyone to fall over and JUMP into their MLM business. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! And, if you think that will happen, you're nothing more than a DREAMER!
Here's the results of when I called 1,000 people in one month. You should EXPECT close to the same results. Remember, I called 50 people a day. I took Saturday and Sunday off. I spent approx. 3 hours a day on my phone calls. That's 15 hours a week, or 60 hours a month. Here's my results: 1,000 phone calls 278 disconnected phone numbers 469 voice mails 124 said no and hung up on me 129 said "yes" to my free offer 27.8% Of the phones were bad numbers 46.9% I got their voice mail 12.4% Screamed NO to me 12.9% Said YES to my Free offer I signed 26 people up in my MLM program! That's 2.6% of the original 1,000 that I called. That's 20.1% of the 129 that I got hold of who wanted my Free offer. I only got hold of 25.3% of those I called--that's 253 out of 1,000. The other 747 people I did NOT connect with them. I was a BULL DOG! Now, that's marketing your Network Marketing business!
Now, YOUR results may go up or down a few percentage points--but this is the REALISTIC expectations you should have when you tele-market your leads WITH phone numbers. Now, the real "kicker" is that is just the Front-End money. I also have a "back-end" in my books and tapes. You see, I realize that not everyone is going to "jump" into my program until they get to know me. If I do "slam" them in my MLM business over the phone, over half of them are going to drop out in 30 days. And, I don't like doing business that way. Why? Because I know that the masses don't like slamming people into a business either. And, MLM is about marketing to the masses. Enough said on that subject. You see, my approach has always been simple. I wanted residual income. I wanted to roll over instead of roll out of bed. I wanted to play Golf at 10:00 a.m. on a Tuesday. I wanted to be able to buy a lake house.
I wanted to fly my children to Disney World for a WEEK! I have lots of WANTS. And, I knew my job wouldn't cover more than my NEEDS. So, MLM gave me an opportunity to excel and make my dreams become a reality. I decided long ago, that I would do "what nobody else was doing". I would go the "EXTRA, EXTRA MILE" 50 calls a day, every day was daunting! Nobody in my upline was doing that. Nobody in my downline was doing that. Nobody in the entire company was doing that. That's why I decided to do it. Because not only would it make my "WANTS" become a reality, but nobody else was making 50 calls a day. I'm a bit of a "maverick". I like doing things nobody else does. I like working my "butt" off for a reason. Now, I showed you the front end and net result after one month (20 days actually) of making 1,000 calls: 26 NEW SIGNUPS!
That is the front end. Here's my back end: 5 MLM Mastery Courses @ $197.00 each 15 Sit Back & Get Rich Books @ $29.95 each 10 Video Tape sales @ $20 each 4 Advertising Magic Sales @ $99 each They bought that from the website I sent them to, or the FOD that was on the card, or the catalog I mailed to them 30 days later. Oh, yes, I followed up at least every other month with some sort of offer. You should too! I sold: $2,295 worth of "Information" on the back-end of those 50 phone calls a day. I made 40% of that, or a $918 commission! Multiply that times 12 months and you get: $11,016 a year in back-end commissions!!! Heck, I'd take the 11 grand a year even if NOBODY joined my MLM program! You see, discipline is the key to this business.
I just work harder than 98% of the industry. I made more than 98% of the industry. So, tell me, how many times have you called 50 people a day for your MLM business? Once? Twice? NEVER??? "But, Robert, what would I say to them? Who would I call? I'm not good on the phone. I don't have any money to make those calls. I'd rather mail post-cards. I'm running ads online where I don't have to talk to anyone. Nobody would join with me." These are common excuses to NOT doing the business. If I told you that by making 50 calls a day that you'd sign up 312 people a year, and make an additional $11,000 just in back-end money, would you be interested? That doesn't even include the money you'd make in the MLM program that you're putting them into! If your MLM program pays you 15% on the first level and 40% on the second level, like mine does, here's what you would make if those 312 people were on $100 Auto-ship and only 50 of them sponsored 2 people in one year: 1st level: $7,500 a month 2nd level: $4,000 a month
That's $12,500 a month after one year. Sure, not all 312 will stay active. Not everyone will be on $100 Auto-Ship But this is a MODEL! You play with the numbers yourself and your own pay plan. Charts and graphs do nothing but represent the possibilities. But, it's within those possibilities that mountains are moved and I get "moved" to work myself out of my comfort zone! Okay, let's back up a minute. I know you're wondering "what" I said when I called my prospects. That's simple. My philosophy was to use the phone and mail to DRIVE traffic to my website. I know I can place ads all over the web. I know I can place ads in magazines. I know I can direct mail a list. But, I wanted to add a personal touch to my MLM business.
After all, MLM is a people business, isn't it? So, I decided that if I wanted to be FREE, that I'd be willing to spend 2-3 hours a day for my Freedom. Would you? Heck, I used to spend that much time a day dreaming of getting rich or just watching TV when I got home from work. I felt that the 2-3 hours a night wasn't a sacrifice. IT WAS A CHOICE! I can't make that choice for you. You have to decide which is more important in your life. TV or your Freedom. Dreaming or Living your Reality. The choice is yours... Okay, I decided to DRIVE traffic to my website with a personal touch. I decided to do what nobody else was doing. I decided to make 50 calls a day, come "hell or high-water" My discipline paid off. It will pay off for you, too. Here's my script:
"Hi, (insert name here), my name is Robert, you recently responded to our ad about making extra money from home. The reason for my call today is to see if you are still looking for an opportunity, or have you found one?" That's what I said to the 253 people I got hold of when I called 1,000 people. 50.9% of those 253 I TALKED TO, said yes to my Free offer. Here's how it went. If they said they were still looking for an opportunity I asked them if they had access to the Internet. If they said "Yes", I gave them my website, or I took their e-mail address over the phone, just to ensure that they would get my information. If they didn't have access to the Internet, I verified their address and mailed them the same information that was on my web page. Simple enough. I didn't try to "sell" them on the phone. The sole purpose of the phone call was to "CAPTURE" their e-mail address. Then, my auto-responder took over. What was I giving away?
A "Free Video Presentation" on MLM. I told them they'd get it for Free if they went to my website. Oh, by the way, I left the same script to the 469 who sent me to their voice mail! Then, I'd drop a post-card in the mail to them, in addition to leaving them a message. You see, I market differently than most. I realize that more people will say "no" than say "yes". With that in mind I have "stuff" for those people who say "no" to me, to buy. "Stuff" like training books and tapes. And, the good part, yes, is that I make 40% on these books and tapes, but the best part is that it starts the relationship building business, too. Hey, somebody buys a book from me and they love it, don't you think they're going to remember WHO they bought it from? You bet they are.
Here's a quick re-cap of my 1,000 Phone call formula --278 Bad Phone numbers--i mailed them a post-card anyway. --469 Voice Mails--I left my script on their voice mail and dropped my post-card in the mail to them as well. --124 Screamed "No" to me and hung up--i dropped them a postcard in the mail to them anyway. Hey, I figured this guys wife was in the room and he wouldn't dare say yes to me! :>) --129 Said "Yes" I'm interested in what you've got. I either gave them my e-mail address, got their e-mail address, or mailed them my information. 46.9% I got their voice mail 12.4% Screamed NO to me 12.9% Said YES to my Free offer Would you? Would you? Would you? Is your reason "WHY" big enough to become disciplined in this way? Or, are you just making excuses and "playing" MLM? If you are, that's okay. Just don't criticize those of us who are working hard to make our dreams become a reality. We're not perfect. Neither are our "systems". But, at least we have a game plan and are taking action. Do you? Are you? I wish I had a "quick fix" for you. I wish there was an easier way. I wish you could recruit your next door neighbor and quit your job next month. But, that isn't how it works. Oh, I also wish everyone I called was pleasant.
They aren't. This isn't church social hour. This isn't your 10 year reunion list you're calling. You're calling BROKE, Depressed, Desperate and sometimes intoxicated people! You have to realize the NUMBERS of telemarketing. Smile and Dial. That's how I overcome the NUMBERS. Yes, one night I called 50 people and got NOTHING! 25 disconnects 15 voice mails 10 screaming people Those 10 people who screamed at me said all sorts of ugly things. "I never answered any dumb ad" "That was over a year ago" "How the hell did you get my phone number?" "I told the last guy who called to take me off your @#$% LIST!" So, get ready. Did I stop? No.
Why not? Because I knew the RESULTS my job would give me. My job gave me my NEEDS. I still had my WANTS! See the difference? See the distinction? See what kept me going? I didn't let 50 grumpy people upset and stop me. Will you? Do you? Is your dream that small that 50 strangers can stop you dead in your tracks? I never understand what people who drop out of my lead program are going to do for leads! Are they just going to stop prospecting? If they are, how are they going to build their business? I know other lead programs and systems aren't that much better, if any, than mine. How do I know that? Because I've been in most of them. Their leads aren't any better than mine.
Their ads run right next to mine in magazines and card decks. We're both compiling the names of the same people! Don't you think when somebody answers your MLM specific ad in a publication that they're also answering about a dozen others? Sure they are. Why pay $10 to $30 for a lead when you can pay just.097 cents each? (that s less than 10 cents per lead) I used to pay $10 per lead in magazines. I got 100 leads for my $1,000 and I got basically the same results that I just shared with you earlier in this article. I then realized that prospecting was a numbers game. I then realized that people spend more money advertising their MLM than they did on their MLM product or service. I then realized that it was easier signing someone up in a lead program than it was in my main MLM program. There are 1,000's of health and nutritional programs. There are less than 5 good lead companies. Think about that one for a while. That's why I started my own lead program!!! I'm here today to give you the proper expectations of telemarketing your way to freedom.
Just like when a plane takes off. You know what I mean. You've just sighed a sigh of relief that you're off the ground and the plane is heading upwards at a 45% degree angle. You relax just for a second. Then, out of nowhere you FEEL and HEAR this pop under your feet. All sorts of things go through your mind: "The bottom of the plane just split open under me" "A small bomb just went off" "There's a 400 lb Gorilla who just broke loose in cargo!" Get my drift? But, what if somebody told you before you took off that you'd hear this noise, and worse yet, even feel this noise and it was simply the landing gear retracting back into the plane so it could fly safer and faster. You'd be alright, wouldn't you? That's why I have to prepare you today. If you are sick and tired of your current lifestyle and you feel like your life is a CD with a skip on it--forever playing the same "tune" over and over again, then use telemarketing to gain your freedom.
Not only will your MLM business grow, you will grow as a person. You will meet some great people all over this country. You will sharpen your skills as a person and marketer. And, you will gain your Freedom! Remember, you're not going to get "everyone" you call into your MLM business. Not everyone is ready for your offer. Not everyone is going to be nice. Not everyone is going to tell you the truth--some flat out lie! Not everyone has an understanding spouse--for their 10th deal in 6 months! But, you're not after everyone, now are you? 75% of your income in MLM will come from 2-3 "legs". So, you're looking for 2-3 leaders out of 1,000. I converted 2.6% out of 1,000 phone calls. You may do better. You may do worse. That's life, isn't it? It's not what Robert can do. You know what I can do--i just shared it. You know what my "best" is. You know what to "expect"
Now it's your turn. Now it's time for you to do your "best" to gain your freedom. Or, it's time to just turn another page of your life and hit the pillow tonight with no game plan, no action and with the same predictable results you had today, yesterday and this last year. Or is it? Change your life today. Change your direction today. Push yourself today. Push until it hurts. And, trust me, it's going to hurt. You're going to doubt yourself. You're going to want to quit. You're going to want to join another program just because you think it will be easier than this one. I know. I thought all those things, too! But, I decided to "stick with" one program for 1 year and make 12,000 calls. And, IF, after that, I wanted to change a program, I would. That was my condition for leaving. What's yours?
What's your downlines "exit plan". I give my downline one. If they get discouraged and "hint" that they are going to quit, I say: "You can quit when you call 50 people a day for a year--and if you're not willing to do that, then you're not willing to do what it takes to make $100,000 a year!" Sound too rough? No, it isn't. This isn't a game. This is about changing your direction. This is about gaining your freedom. If it was EASY, then anyone and everyone would have already done it. Hey, you want to replace and even exceed your income you have at your job and set in motion a residual income that your children's, children can reap, but you're not willing to give up 2-3 hours a night, for 1 year for it? COME ON!!! If you're going to play in the big leagues you've got to start acting like a big leaguer! Stop whining. Stop making excuses. Stop looking for other people to do the work for you. Work hard.
Work every night. Work yourself into a lifestyle you sit at work dreaming about. Stop dropping out because you get 25 disconnected phone numbers! GET REAL!!! That's why people talk about the 80/20 rule. People quit before they get started. I made it just by doing the "numbers". Just my "energy" alone helped me over the finish line! With all those "flat rate" phone services there is no excuse that you can't afford to make 1,000 calls. You can't afford NOT TO make these calls. It changed my life. It made me a better person. It will for you, too. Start today. Smile and dial 50 numbers a day. They're just 10 digits per number. Behind those numbers you'll find people just like you. They're frustrated. They're scared. They fight over money like you do.
They've bounced a few checks. They've been passed over for promotion at work, too. They need a new car, too. They need new clothes. Their children need a good health plan, too. Hey, they're no different than you. Don't you wish somebody would call you tonight with a solution to your financial problems? They do. Make those 50 calls. It will change your life.
