NORTH CENTRAL TASK FORCE KENWOOD TK-2180 / TK-3180 USER Guide Kenwood TK-2180 (VHF 136-174 MHz.) and TK-3180 (UHF 400-470 MHz.) The TK-2180/3180 provides programming capability of up to 512 Channels and 128 Zones. Maintaining full transmit of five watts in both UHF and VHF band spreads. The 12 Character Alphanumeric Display allows for zone and channels to easily be identified. The seven option buttons give us the flexibility of meeting our users needs. Terminology: Channel: Individual alias with a transmit and receive frequency with private line attached. Frequency: The number of cycles or completed alternations per unit time of a wave or oscillation. Private Line: Tone or digital code attached to a transmit or receive frequency to block unwanted signals. Zone: A group of channels under on caption or alias. Scan: Our radios are programmed for ZONE Scan. The radio will check the channels in and across the zones. Scan Add/ Delete: The USER can designate the channel needed to be scanned. Scramble: Turns on and off per channel limiting audio clarity to those within the system. Monitor: Disables the receive private line to monitor all traffic on a channel NOTE: Allot of the features and buttons are programmable. [ ] Review the display to confirm your channel selection. Turn the top rotary knob (center) to desired channel. NOTE: If desired channel is not in the zone or bank selected, press the top ORANGE button to scroll thru the zones. [ ] Review the display for the desired channel and your ready to receive and transmit. SCAN: Scan should only be used if the assigned task must monitor more than one channel. Not scanning keeps outside interference from your task. [ ] Scan - To activate scan, a channel or group of channels must be added to the scan list. Select the desired channel to be added to scan, press the "A" button (Add/Delete) and an icon will appear above the channel name. Proceed to the other channels to scan and repeat the previous step, any channel with the icon in the display will be scanned. Press the "S" button and the word "SCAN" should appear in the display. Your Priority is the channel selected prior activating scan.
USAGE: SCRAMBLE: [ ] Select desired channel for tactical usage and that won't cause undesired interference. [ ] Press the "<B" button and a "DIMON" icon will appear in the upper right of the display Scramble will work only on the channel selected. KEY LOCK: [ ] To Lock keypad, press and release the "C>" button, this will lock the keys from being bumped and changed. [ ] To Un-Lock, Press and hold the "C>" button for a long second, this will unlock the buttons. CLOCK: [ ] To check the time or have the time displayed, Press the top side option button and the time should be in the display. BATTERY CHANGING: [ ] Hold the radio so that the bottom is in view. [ ] Locate the metal tab at the center of the bottom of the battery, pull the tab forward to expose the tab beneath, [ ] Press and hold the tab while pulling up on the battery, the battery should be released and slide off the radio. [ ] To install a new battery, set the top on first than press the bottom in place. Metal tab should be flat to the radio. NOTE: All the "Option Buttons" are programmable and must be activated to function. Kenwood KPG-89 should be used to read and review the radios program by a qualified technician.
