Kempii Shawlette Notes: This half-circle shawl starts with a tab and sts are picked up from the tab. The shawl is worked flat with increases at the top edge and between panels to create the half-circle shape. The shawl is worked from the center top to the bottom edge. All rows are worked with three edge es in garter. These es as well as the between panels are not included on the charts. To increase the size of the shawl: work additional repeats of Chart. Each additional repeat of Chart will result in an increase of es per row. Boxed areas of charts indicate pattern repeat across rows. See instructions below for additional information. Use markers at center and between pattern repeats if necessary. Markers between pattern repeats may need to be moved between charts and chart repeats. For generating stripes, the changes between MC and CC are indicated on charts. Provisional Cast On (Crochet Chain method) With a crochet hook, use waste yarn to make a slipknot and chain the number es of the cast on plus a few extra. Hold knitting needle in right hand. Insert the tip of your knitting needle into the first bump of the crochet chain. Wrap the yarn around your needle as you would to knit and pull it through the crochet chain forming your first knit. Repeat this process until you have cast on the correct number of es. To unravel (when sts need to be picked up), pull chain end out, and unravel the chain, leaving live sts. Place these es onto a knitting needle as you unravel the crochet chain. Picot Bind-Off *CO two sts using the Cable Cast-On method. BO sts, move st from right needle to left needle, rep from * until two or fewer sts remain. CO two sts using the Cable Cast On method. BO all remaining sts. DIRECTIONS Cast on CO sts in CC using provisional cast on. K rows. At end of last row, turn work 0 degrees clockwise. Then, K, PU and K. Remove waste yarn from cast on edge. Place the resulting live sts on to the left needle and K. sts. Next Row [WS]: K, P to last sts, K. Work Charts Odd numbered rows are worked right to left and even rows are worked left to right. Odd numbered rows are worked as: K (top edge sts), [work chart, K ( between panels)] three times, work chart again, K (top edge sts). Even numbered rows are worked as: K, [work chart, P] three times, work chart again, K. Work chart Rows 0 one time. Change color as indicated on chart. sts Work chart Rows two times. Work boxed pattern repeat one time for the first repeat of chart, and three times for the second. Change color as indicted on chart. sts Work chart Rows one time.
