The house is very similar in plan and design to the house next door at 34 East College Avenue. Both houses illustrate Stick Style architectural treatment, where the emphasis is on expressed structure through applied detail. This house is the most intact of the two, with its original siding remaining. It features diamond shingles in gable faces, wide belt courses with diagonal boards, exposed brackets under the eaves, and extremely decorative fan brackets supporting projecting window hoods. Three porches are intact, each with a different design includes brackets, chamfered posts, and frieze work. The major change to the house is the extension of the original one-story wing to the rear and the replacement of the roof with asphalt
shingles. History/Significance This house is significant both architecturally and historically. Architecturally, it is an outstanding local example of a Stick Style house, an uncommon style of the Victorian period. Historically, it is best associated with the occupancy of the William W. Moses family, who resided here from 1889 through the 1960s. The house appears to have been built by W. O. Rowe, a local grocer who bought the lot in 1883. William Moses purchased the house in 1888 for $3,000 and brought his wife to live here when he was married in 1889. Moses became known as a successful local grocer, operating a grocery business at 11 North State Street from 1884 until his death in 1926. He and a partner named Leah had come to Westerville from Fremont, Ohio in 1884 to establish a grocery story. The firm later became Moses and Stock. Mrs. Moses resided in the house until her death in 1940, and her daughter Helen Moses lived there until her death in 1971. Sanborn Map Research House is shown on 1894 Sanborn Map. A pre-existing one-story wing was extended slightly between 1900 and 1013. No other changes through 1955.
