Fresh from bringing Gellart Grindelwald to justice, Newt Scamander faces a renewed showdown with his newly escaped nemesis in FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD, showing at both sites from Friday 16. The genre-defying, zeitgeist-capturing ASSASSINATION NATION delivers a raucous look at a town uprooted by personal data leaks with brutal consequences. Catch it at Shoreditch from Friday 30. On the same day, Portobello welcomes a new take on a familiar character as Claire Foy steps into the tattooed role of Lisbeth Salander in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER S WEB. Fifty years ago the Electric Cinema Club was founded, establishing the Electric Portobello as a destination for cinephiles across London. To celebrate this chapter in the history of the Electric, we ll be getting the band back together for a special anniversary event featuring the Cinema Club s founding members on Saturday 3 November. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Electric Cinema Club: the guise in which the Electric Portobello operated in the late 1960s and 1970s, when London s cineastes flocked to the cinema, and the likes of Stephen Frears and Nic Roeg sought inspiration from its ground-breaking programme. To celebrate this landmark episode, we will be welcoming the Club s original members for a screening of a speciallymade documentary, followed by a Q&A chaired by BFI programmer and former Club staffer Geoff Andrew. We round off with a screening of Black Narcissus: a film close to the Electric Cinema Club s heart, and the first in a special series curated by the Club s programmer, Peter Howden read on for more information.
