Embroidery: 1. Embroider each design for the wall hanging. They will be designs #NB104_48 to NB123_48 using two layers of OESD Ultra Clean and Tear stabilizer in each hooping. Be sure to use the 505 temporary spray adhesive to adhere all layers of stabilizer and fabric together for best stitch results. 2. The last thing that will stitch in each of these squares is an outline stitch. This stitch is very important in the process of putting the design together so it is vital that it is not skipped when embroidering. When choosing the color for this outline stitch keep in mind that you want it to blend in with your background fabric but it should also be able to be seen. You should also keep the designs in their stitching order to speed up the piecing process. (PHOTO 1 and 2) 3. Once the embroidery process is complete, remove all excess stabilizers from the design without disturbing the outline stitch. Trim away all excess fabric leaving a seam allowance outside of the outline stitch. In the pictures that follow, we used a ¼ inch seam allowance and used our machines ¼ foot for piecing. (PHOTO 3) Creating the Wall hanging 1. After each block has been trimmed down, lay out the pieces near your machine so that it is easy to put the blocks together. Remember, there are 4 blocks across and 5 down 2. Using your ¼ inch piecing foot piece your wall hanging together. The outline stitch should be used as the stitching guide when piecing your scene together. (PHOTO 4) 3. Piece each row across first. Press the seams over to one side. When using a ¼ inch seam allowance, you will press one row of seams to the right and the next row to the left allowing each of the vertical rows to sit together nicely. You should also have a thick terry towel on the ironing board before pressing the seams. This will allow the embroidery to not be crushed in the ironing process. (PHOTO 5) 4. Once all the horizontal rows are pieced together, it is time to connect those rows together. It is very important to use pins at this stage. You will want to place your pins so that all of the intersecting areas from each row match perfectly. Use 1 or 2 pins at each intersection. (PHOTO 6). Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Picture 4 Copyright 2007 OESD, Inc. All rights reserved.

5. Continue until all rows are connected. (PHOTO 7) 6. The next step is to cover all of the rows with fusible bias tape. This will be used to cover up any areas that maybe don t meet perfectly. Follow the manufacturers instructions for pressing these strips onto your project. (PHOTO 8) 7. Trim away any excess strips so that the outer edges of the project are even. 8. From the fat quarter, cut 4 strips that are 2 inches x 22 inches long for the borders 9. Sew a strip of the border fabric on two opposite sides of the project and press them into place. Repeat with the other sides. 10. Cut the backing fabric and batting to be at least 2 inches larger than the finished size of your project made above. Using the 505 spray, spray the batting and attach the backing. 11. Repeat step 10 for attaching the top. 12. In this next step, we will be sewing the bias strips in place. You will need a walking foot and thread to match the bias strips. Move your sewing machines needle so that the stitching will ride closely to the edge of the strips. (PHOTO 9) 13. Stitch along both sides of each strip starting in the center of the project and working out to the edges. 14. Stitch in the ditch between the squares and the borders to secure the last of the project. 15. Trim away the excess backing and batting and bind the project to finish.
