The course books relate math to learn better... everyday life to help your child The story format gets your child interested and keeps him involved. Wiz the wizard, teaches math to Lucy and your child in a very interesting manner. Look, Wiz! All the numbers have disappeared! How will I tell the time or the date or remember birthdays? I can t even dial a number on my phone! Oh, dear! The wicked witch must have cast a spell on your room. Let me use my magic wand to bring back the numbers. We can t do without them! Thank you, Wiz! I don t know what I would have done without numbers! Imagine if they disappeared from houses and cars, and from the pages of my book! We need numbers for everything! Yes, Lucy. We are surrounded by numbers. We need them to tell our height, weight and temperature, and even to tell the price of things. That s why it s important to know your numbers. Go on a number hunt in your house. Write down 10 numbers that you can find. What is the biggest number you found?. The Wiz says exercises challenge your child with additional activities. Audio files of 24 math songs will help your child learn through music. Children learn the correct pronunciation through listening to the Eltee Pen. Can you think of some more things for which we need numbers? The Lucy wants to know follow-up questions encourage your child to think. 4 disappeared surrounded height weight price temperature 5 106 107

Time for Math Numbers and Counting Place the Eltee Pen on the icon to activate 12 comes after 11. Let s place it after hat number 11. What s the number that comes next? 13 comes after 12. That s the hat I ll put next. I know that 14 comes after 13. I can count out loud and put the hats one after the other, until I get to 20. When we arrange numbers from the smallest to the biggest, we say the numbers have been arranged in ascending order. When we arrange numbers from the biggest to the smallest, we call it descending order. Choose a language: Arabic ( ) Bahasa Indonesia English French Can you count in descending order from 20 to 11? 108 109 ascending after descending

Numbers & Counting I ve learnt to skip-count, Wiz. I jumped from 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 to 10. Is there a special name for these numbers? Yes, Lucy. All the numbers that you landed on are called even numbers. When you start at 2, and skip-count in twos, you ll always land on an even number. This is fun! I m going to skip-count in twos again. This time I ll start at 9 and count backward 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1. Is there a special name for these numbers too? Yes, Lucy. All the numbers that you landed on are called odd numbers. If you start at 1 and skip-count in twos, you ll always land on an odd number. Even numbers always end in 2, 4, 6, 8, or 0. Odd numbers always end in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. Is 263 even or odd? 110 111 skip even always backward special odd

Wiz, it s my friend Akira s birthday today. I m going to put 10 candles on his birthday cake. But I have only 7 candles. How many more candles do I need? That s easy! You can use your fingers to find out. Hold up 1 finger for each candle you have. Then, count the fingers that are left. That s the number of candles you need. I m holding up 7 fingers. 3 fingers are left. This means I need 3 more candles to make 10. Let s see the equation that Wiz has written. 7 3 = 10 Now let s head for Akira s birthday party! Addition Using your fingers is one of the easiest ways to figure out sums that need you to count up to 10. If I only had 2 candles, how many more would I need for Akira s birthday cake? 112 113 fingers written sums birthday candles easiest

Subtraction I have 5 biscuits. So, I ll hold up 5 fingers. Now, I ll fold 1 finger for each biscuit I give away. I m not holding up any fingers. This means I have no more biscuits left. 5 5 = 0 If you take away a number from itself, the answer will always be zero. 1-1=0 4-4=0 9-9=0 Look Wiz, I bought 5 dog biscuits. There are 5 dogs in the animal shelter. If I gave 1 biscuit to each dog, how many biscuits would be left? Lucy, you can use your fingers to find that out. If I had started out with 6 biscuits, how many would be left with me? 114 115 fold itself zero biscuits shelter fingers

Look, Wiz. My mother has sent 2 boxes of cupcakes. I can t wait to eat them! I can see that there are 5 cupcakes in each box. Can you calculate all together how many cupcakes do we have? I can add the cupcakes in the two boxes. 5 5 = 10 I can even use multiplication to find the answer. 2 5 = 10 Mmm the cupcakes are delicious! I must send a thank you card to my mother. Multiplication After you are done multiplying, you can check your answer by adding the number of things in each set. The addition answer should be the same as the multiplication answer. If my mother sends us another box with 5 cupcakes, how many cupcakes will we have in all? 116 117 boxes together check cupcakes another delicious

Division Mother has got 12 boxes of cherries for us. Let s put them in the fridge. My fridge has 4 shelves. I want each shelf to have the same number of boxes. How can I divide 12 boxes between 4 shelves? Let s take 4 boxes at a time and put a box on each shelf. Keep doing this until you have put all the boxes inside the fridge. I took 4 boxes at a time and put one box on each shelf. I was left with 8 boxes. I took 4 more boxes and put 1 more box on each shelf. I was left with 4 boxes. I put one more box on each shelf. All the boxes are now inside the fridge. I divided 12 boxes between 4 shelves and each shelf now has 3 boxes. I can write this as an equation. 12 4 = 3 Take some fruits from your kitchen and divide them equally between your family members. Is there some fruit left over? If I put 4 more boxes of cherries in the fridge, how many boxes will there be on each shelf? 118 119 members inside fruits cherries fridge shelves

Measurement Look, Wiz. There s an old clock buried in our garden. How can I read the time on this clock? Lucy the big hand of the clock is at 12. When the big hand is at 12, you can tell the time by looking only at the small hand. The small hand on the clock is called the hour hand because it tells us the hours. The big hand is called the minute hand because it tells us the minutes. The small hand of the clock is at 2. This means the time is 2 o clock. That s right, Lucy. Let s see if the clock can do some magic! If the big hand of the clock is at 12 and the small hand is at 11, what time is it? 120 121 buried time clock magic hour minute

Numbers & Counting Addition Lucy and Wiz are playing hopscotch. You can play with them, too. Follow their instructions. If you land on an even number, colour it red. If you land on an odd number, colour it green. Lucy and Wiz are throwing a surprise birthday party for their friend, Akira. He is going to turn 10, and there will be 10 guests at the party. 3 hops forward starting from 1. 1 Lucy and Wiz need 10 of every item. How many more of each item do they need? 2 4 more hops forward. 3 4 4 hops forward. 5 hops backwards Wiz has 7 candles. He needs more candles. Lucy has 5 balloons. She needs more balloons. 5 2 more hops forward. Wiz has 3 plates. He needs more plates. Wiz has 4 candies. He needs more candies. Lucy has 6 spoons. s. She needs more spoons. 122 123

Subtraction Multiplication Help Lucy give away these 6 biscuits to the dogs. Make sure you give every dog one biscuit. it. Draw a line from each biscuit to give it to a dog. How many biscuits did you give away? How many biscuits are left? Find out and complete the equation. The pixies have sent some cupcakes for Wiz and Lucy. Can you help them find out how many? = = = 6 = 124 125

Division Measurement Lucy s mother bought lots of boxes of cherries for Lucy and Wiz. Help them put the boxes into the fridge so that each of the three shelves has the same number of boxes. You can draw lines to match the right number of boxes to each shelf. Remember to complete the division equation. Can you help Lucy tell the time? Write the correct time under each clock. Time: Time: Time: 3 = Time: Time: 126 127
