Geography & Environment Lens This lens looks at the relationship people have with the environment at any given time in history. - How do people use the natural resources available to them of change their environment to meet their needs? - How have geography, location, and climate influenced the way people in a particular region live? Belief Systems Lens This lens looks at religion and values and how they affect people, government, and society. - What role does religion play in society and government? - How does religion and values shape the way people of this society relate to others? Cultural Lens This lens looks at culture as a system of beliefs, knowledge, values, and traditions that belong to different groups of people. Culture also includes art, music, literature, sports and food. - How does culture shape the way human beings of this group interact or react to an event or another group of people? - How do art, music, literature, and other cultural artifacts, reflect or shape a particular society? - How do these people communicate and express themselves? Government and Politics Lens This lens is used to analyze who has the power and how that power is used. - How was the government created and how can it be changed? - What are the similarities and differences between government in the world? - How much power do people in society hold to influence their government? - How are laws created? - What power does the government have to create and change laws?

Social Structure Lens This lens looks at the relationship between people in a particular society. For example, social class structures, and the relationship between men and women, - Why do some groups have more power and higher status than others? - What role do these relationships between people play in shaping the culture and government of a society? - How do people try to change the way their society is structured? - How do laws affect how people relate to each other and demonstrate the things they value? Social Structures Lens This lens looks at the relationship between people in a particular society. For, example, social class structures, and the relationship between men and women. - Why do some groups have more power and higher status than others? - What role do these relationships between people play in shaping the culture and government of a society? - How do people change the way their society is structured? - How do laws show people value? How do laws affect how people relate to each other? Science & Technology Lens This lens looks at how science is used to create new inventions and how technology affects society. - How have people used technology to change the environment? - Has technological progress brought about social progress? - How have scientific and technological changes affected lives and influenced history in this time period?
