Dear Children, SETH ANANDRAM JAIPURIA SCHOOL VASUNDHARA, GHAZIABAD SESSION: 2016-2017 HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS: V The much awaited and joyous summer vacations have arrived- the time of splash pools and juicy mangoes, the time to relax and enjoy without having to worry about school and exams. Summer vacations are the best part of the childhood. The purpose of the summer vacations is multifold. They are an opportunity of exploring the innate talents, scaling new heights and touching new horizons of personality enhancement through various activities. They are a time to catch up with grandma s and grandpa s tales and to make the memories for a life time with cousins. For parents, it is time to be together with your child and have a wonderful time with your family. Here are some tips for parents to make the most of the time you will spend with your child during the summer break. Promote reading at home: Stimulate your child to read by demonstrating that reading is an enjoyable activity. A family reading time can be designated and discussion can be done on what each family member is reading. Collection of reading material can be put together and should be easily accessible. Building Vocabulary: Engage your child in conversations every day. If possible, include new and interesting words in your conversation. Read to your child each day. When the book contains a new or interesting word, pause and define the word for your child. You can look up the dictionary together for the exact meaning of the word and in this way

inculcates a good reading habit. After you're done reading, engage your child in a conversation about the book. An activity box: Sit with your children and chart out their dream time table for the vacations. Make chits of different suggested activities and put them in a box. Every morning, pick up a chit and that s the activity for the day. Bookmark this! : Let your child create a scrapbook on one of his interests cricket, football, the environment etc. Encourage him to cut out newspaper articles, photos and other features related to his topic of interest and paste them in his book. Shopping: There are ways of turning this regular outing into an opportunity for interaction, conversation, and fun! There is a lot to see and do at a store. Making a list with your child is an excellent way to introduce your child to the vocabulary related to shopping as well as to the printed material. Both will encourage your child s early literacy skills. Go Play! : Have an active vacation. It's a chance to do things your family already enjoys and maybe try something new. Go cycling, play badminton, cricket, yoga and swimming. Eat healthy and fresh food to stay fit and robust.
