Chapter One: Mindset and Purpose
Vision is the art of seeing the invisible Jonathon Swift Mindset and Purpose The core action steps for this first chapter are: Identifying and clarifying your ability and purpose for helping others Making a commitment to yourself to work this program Designing your life wheel to bridge how personal interacts with professional Creating your goals sheet for the next 60 days A big bonus to keep you on track with all your business endeavors Chapter One is filled with discovery and in order to accomplish this there are 8 assignments. Be thoughtful and aware as you complete these assignments as they are the foundations of your growth. Remember this is your business and your life. There are no expectations here. Take the time you need to complete these assignments honestly and openly. They are your goals and your aspirations which are as unique as you are. Preparing for success is getting your mind set for entrepreneurship. Maturity, especially in a business, does not solely come from experience, age, wisdom or even longevity. It comes from decisiveness. When you decide to stop living small and embrace your possibility, you begin to live in maturity. When I began my business and got really decisive, not about trying to build a business, but about knowing that I was an entrepreneur that could make a difference in others lives, everything aligned. The teachers I needed showed up. The coaches I needed showed up. The money flowed. I became a center of influence. I know the same is possible for you. First of all, let me give you some clarity around mindset and your helping purpose. Who you are in your life is who you are in your business. 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 22
Right now, hold a mirror up to yourself and just think about what you see. Literally, take a moment and get up, stand in front of the bathroom mirror look at yourself and think about what you is being reflected. I m not talking about crow s feet or gray hairs h ere. What do you see in terms of your values, your strengths, how you re operating in your life? Just take a minute to assess that. Your A ssignment #1 Make a list of what you see when you look in the mirror. What did you see (no processing - gut reaction!) Now, take a look at what you wrote - was it exciting or was it scary? Here s what I want you to understand what you see is what your potential clients see, but the key here is they see it magnified. If you see someone who is unsure of themselves, that s what the client sees. If you see someone who is afraid of success, that s what the client sees. Mindset is really important. I believe the single most important thing you can do in your business is have a mindset that radiates confidence, professionalism, excitement, joy and passion. You must get clear about your mindset before anything else. But how can you start, you ask? I knew you d ask that. Let s play w ith purpose here for a moment. You are doing what you are doing for a few reasons. You want to help others, make a difference, make money and work for yourself. So, what brought you to this place? What do you really have to offer others? (This will work really well when we are crafting our compelling story later in this program!) 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 23
Your A ssignment #2 If you could solve a world problem, what would it be? What do you most have to offer people (how can you help others)? What is the greatest compliment you have ever received? What would you most like people to say about you at your funeral? 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 24
What are you most proud of accomplishing at this point in your life? I know I am great at OK, terrific! I know your answers are powerful. 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 25
Your A ssignment #3 Go back through what you wrote on Assignment #2 and list below words ending in ING, verbs and action words. These are your gifts, your strengths - what you have to offer! Post these in a place you see everyday and embrace what you will be using to make more money and help more people. Keep this handy - we will use them again soon. Now that you can clearly see your gifts and purpose, take a look at your personal life and how that might be affecting your business accomplishments and your ability to help others. Your A ssignment #4 Look at the different areas of your life and how fulfilled you are in each of them. Use this Hell Yeah Factor Wheel as an opportunity to see what areas are really working and what areas you might need to work on. It will be very difficult to build a strong business and have a strong business foundation if there are areas of your life that also need work. Also identify goals you wish to reach in the next six months. 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 26
Hell Yeah Factor Wheel relationship & romance living space health & well-being fun & recreation personal growth & spirituality money career friends & family The eight sections in the Hell Yeah Factor Wheel of life represent Balance. Seeing the center of the wheel as 0 and the outer edges as 10, rate your level of satisfaction with each life area by drawing a straight or curved line to create a new outer edge. The new perimeter represents the wheel of your life. If this were a real wheel, how bumpy would the ride be? 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 27
Next, ask yourself, "What changes do I want to make to increase my satisfaction?" Do this for each life area. Write down one answer for each section that will significantly alter the quality of your life. Commit to taking some action right now! Dis c laimer When you re running a startup, nothing will feel balanced and balance is a myth that you will feel Hell Yeah about in every area every day. You can make a shift every day. You have got to get clear what gives you juice and excitement. And you ve got to shift it every day. OK, a few more areas to hit and then you are on your way for the rest of this program. I thought you might like to do some business with yourself. You would never miss an appointment, ignore a client, or break a deal, right? I didn t think so. 2012 Suzanne Evans Coaching All rights reserved. http://www.suzanneevans.org 28
