Gate City Quilt Guild Gazette Volume X, Issue 11 November 2018 A Message from the President Guild Events Next meeting: November 1, 2018 starting at 6:30pm with social time and meeting begins at 7pm Location New Garden Friends Meeting What to Bring to the Meeting: Congratulations on a spectacular quilt show. Producing a quilt show is similar to making a quilt; it takes time, patience, creativity, and lots of energy. Many of us started working on the show 2 years ago. Just like a quilt, there are things that you can't see that are so important. Every aspect of the quilt show was so well done. During the quilt show, we supported our fellow quilters in New Bern by collecting $265.13 in donations that are greatly appreciated as the Twin Rivers guild members rebuild and recover from Florence. Hurricane Michael interrupted our plans for the Friends & Family Reception and guild members coped with downed trees and power outages. Our guests admired the quilts and commented about how friendly everyone is. It's who we are and why our quilt show and guild are successful. At the November meeting, I look forward to sharing a series of quilts with you based on photographs I took at Stone Barns in the Sleepy Hollow area of New York. Now that the storms have passed through, I hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather. In stitches, Judi Board Meeting Tuesday, November 6 at 6:30, Kathleen Clay Edwards Library 1420 Price Park Drive (off Hobbs) * Name Tag * Show and Tell * Checkbook to pay for membership or workshop Gate City Quilt Guild Autumn Rose Quilt Show WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL SHOW! Hurricane or no hurricane, electricity or no electricity, traffic lights or no traffic lights. WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL SHOW! And it all came down to each person getting the job done, willingness to work hard and complete tasks that just plain needed doing. It was with great pleasure that the Knockout Rose Raffle Quilt was won by none other than Maria Adams of Calla Lily Quilts. So very fitting! The Raffle Sewing Machine was won by Jill Robertson from Mocksville NC. She sent a note thanking us and shared that she has been teaching her 14 year old granddaughter how to quilt and the machine was going to make for a wonderful Christmas present.

From Debbie Feulner: Also, since the quilt show is over, we can start looking at our judge s evaluation comments and start thinking about how to improve our work for the next show. Many quilts had comments about bindings. A good source of information for good bindings is Deb Karasiks slide show at http://www.debkarasik.com/userfiles/file/debkarasik_binding_1.0.pdf. Take a look at it and let guild know what you think. Slate of Officers for 2018 Thank you all for making Gate City the wonderful guild it is! Sue and Donna Charity Quilting Charity Quilting has met and put together 16 kits of beautiful flannels for baby quilts. We hope to distribute these at the November meeting and have them back at the December meeting, ready to go to Women's Hospital to be distributed during the Holiday season. These are constructed of a very simple pattern and can be quilted with straight lines or free motion. Many of the babies born at Women's are in need of help. These little flannel quilts will help to keep them warm this winter. PLEASE, donate a few hours of your time to complete a quilt for someone in need. Sigrid Let s Celebrate! About 1/4 cup minced onions About 1/4 cup minced green pepper About 1 1/4 tsp. seasoning salt 1 cup chopped pecans Mix first 5 ingredients together in a bowl and shape into ball. Refrigerate until we ll chilled. Shape into ball, roll in pecans and place on plate to serve with crackers. This makes two small cheese balls. The Twin Rivers Quilters guild Bee by the River Seasons for Quilts Quilt Show originally scheduled for October 2018 has been moved to October 25-26, 2019. Hurricane Florence significantly affected Eastern NC, specifically our members and the town of New Bern. Our venue for the show the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center experienced extreme flooding and needs significant repairs, which could take months to complete. This show and our community are the pride of our guild membership. As our community continues to rebuild we will continue to quilt, allowing us to provide warmth, comfort and friendly faces to our community. In turn, this will no doubt positively imprint our 2019 show.
