2 B. Shop Drawings: Include the following: 1. Elevations of each door design. 2. Details of doors, including vertical and horizontal edge details and metal thicknesses. 3. Frame details for each frame type, including dimensioned profiles and metal thicknesses. 4. Locations of reinforcement and preparations for hardware. 5. Details of each different wall opening condition. 6. Details of anchorages, joints, field splices, and connections. 7. Details of accessories. 8. Details of moldings, removable stops, and glazing. 9. Details of conduit and preparations for power, signal, and control systems. C. Samples for Initial Selection: For units with factory-applied color finishes. D. Samples for Verification: 1. For each type of exposed finish required, prepared on Samples of not less than 3 by 5 inches. E. Other Action Submittals: 1. Schedule: Provide a schedule of hollow metal work prepared by or under the supervision of supplier, using same reference numbers for details and openings as those on Drawings. Coordinate with door hardware schedule. F. Product Test Reports: Based on evaluation of comprehensive tests performed by a qualified testing agency, for each type of hollow metal door and frame assembly. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following or equal: 1. Ambico Ltd. 2. Ceco Door Products; an Assa Abloy Group company. 3. Overly Door Company. 4. Security Metal Products Corp. 5. Sweeper Metal Fabricators. 2.2 MATERIALS A. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheet: ASTM A 1008/A 1008M, Commercial Steel (CS), Type B; suitable for exposed applications. B. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheet: ASTM A 1011/A 1011M, Commercial Steel (CS), Type B; free of scale, pitting, or surface defects; pickled and oiled. C. Sheet Steel: Stainless Steel to ASTM, A240; Type 304 DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

3 D. Frame Anchors: ASTM A 591/A 591M, Commercial Steel (CS), 40Z coating designation; mill phosphatized. 1. For anchors built into exterior walls, steel sheet complying with ASTM A 1008/A 1008M or ASTM A 1011/A 1011M, hot-dip galvanized according to ASTM A 153/A 153M, Class B. E. Inserts, Bolts, and Fasteners: Hot-dip galvanized according to ASTM A 153/A 153M. F. Powder-Actuated Fasteners in Concrete: Fastener system of type suitable for application indicated, fabricated from corrosion-resistant materials, with clips or other accessory devices for attaching hollow metal frames of type indicated. G. Grout: ASTM C 476, except with a maximum slump of 4 inches, as measured according to ASTM C 143/C 143M. H. Mineral-Fiber Insulation: ASTM C 665, Type I (blankets without membrane facing); consisting of fibers manufactured from slag or rock wool with 6- to 12-lb/cu. ft. density; with maximum flame-spread and smoke-development indexes of 25 and 50, respectively; passing ASTM E 136 for combustion characteristics. I. Glazing: Comply with requirements in Division 08 Section "Glazing." J. Bituminous Coating: Cold-applied asphalt mastic, SSPC-Paint 12, compounded for 15-mil dry film thickness per coat. Provide inert-type noncorrosive compound free of asbestos fibers, sulfur components, and other deleterious impurities. 2.3 DETENTION DOORS A. Detention Doors 1. Material: Cold-rolled steel; ASTM A Steel sheet faces 2 inch thick, flush design; 12 gauge. 3. Core: Stiffened core in conformance with HMMA 863 standards. 4. Fabrication Tolerances: HMMA Top and Bottom Edges: Closed with a continuous channel, not less than 10 gauge spot-welded to both face sheets a maximum of 3 on center. 6. Top and bottom channel shall be fitted with an additional flush closer plate of not less than 12- gauge. B. Detention Door Fabrication: 1. Construction: Longitudinal edges welded, filled and sanded with no visible edge seams. 2. Door Core Construction: Stiffened with continuous steel sections, spaced with interior webs not more than 6 inches apart, which upon assembly span the full thickness of the interior of the door. 3. Astragals: Metal shaped astragals for double doors. 4. Reinforce doors where surface mounted hardware is required C. Hardware Reinforcement 1. Doors shall be mortised, reinforced, drilled, and tapped at the factory for completely templated, mortised hardware in accordance with the final approved hardware schedule and templates provided DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

4 by the hardware supplier. Where surface-mounted hardware is to be applied, floor shall be reinforced, drilled, and tapped in accordance with final approved hardware schedules and templates. 2. Minimum gauges for hardware reinforcements shall be as follows: a. Full mortised hinges and pivots: 7-gauge. b. Surface-applied maximum security: minimum thickness to equal major diameter screw, but no less than ¼. c. Reinforcements for lock fronts, concealed holders, or surface: 7-gauge. d. Mounted closures: 7-gauge. e. Internal reinforcements for all other surface-applied hardware: 7-gauge. D. Glazing Stops: Provide steel moldings to secure glazing in accordance with glass sizes and thickness shown with a minimum 1 glass engagement. Pressed steel; 10 gauge minimum. 1. Butted corners; prepared for countersink style screws. 2. Mitered corners; prepared for countersink #1/4-20 gauge Grade 8 Torx pinhead buttonhead screws. 3. Provide tamper proof screws. E. Food Pass Openings: The food pass openings shall be flush opening fabricated using interior channels. 12- gauge minimum securely welded to the inside of both face sheets. The four corner seams shall be continuously arc welded and dressed smooth. The finished opening shall be constructed such that it cannot be dismantled. 1. The food pass shutter shall be furnished with a continuous heavy duty hinge by door manufacturer and one each food pass lock. F. Glass: Refer to Division 8 Section Glazing. 2.4 DETENTION FRAMES A. Detention Frames: 1. Material: Cold-rolled steel; ASTM A366 or hot-rolled ASTM A Fabrication Tolerances: To HMMA 841. B. Detention Frame Fabrication: 1. Welded Frames: 14 gauge thick base metal thickness, welded type construction, mitered corners. 2. Factory assembled and welded frames. 3. Corner joints shall have contact edges closed tight with faces mitered and stops either butted of mitered. Corner joints shall be continuously welded and the use of gussets or splice plates will be unacceptable. 4. Fabricate frames with hardware reinforcement plates welded in place. 5. Stops: Minimum depth of stops in door openings shall be 1. For glass and panel openings, stops shall be 1 minimum glass or panel engagement, or as approved by the detention glazing manufacture, to included rabbeted depth of stops. 6. All frames shall be provided with two (2) temporary steel spreaders welded to the feet of the jobs to serve as bracing during shipping and handling. Remove temporary spreaders to set frame at the permanent location. C. Loose Glazing Stops: Provide angle glazing stops shall be no less than 10-gauge. Angle stops shall be mitered of coped and tight-fitting at the corner joints. DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

5 1. Provide individual threaded enclosed fasteners as backup welded under the frame where loose glazing stops are to be attached. 2. Mitered corners; prepared for countersink #1/4-20 gauge Grade 8 Torx pinhead buttonhead screws. 3. Removable stops shall be on the side opposite the area of inmate confinement or where they are likely to be supervised. D. Hardware Reinforcement 1. Frames shall be mortised, reinforced, drilled, and tapped at the factory for completely templated, mortised hardware in accordance with the final approved hardware schedule and templates provided by the hardware supplier. Where surface-mounted hardware is to be applied, frames shall have reinforcements only. 2. Minimum thickness of hardware reinforcements shall be as follows: a. Hinge and pivot reinforcements: ¼ x full width of jambs x 10 in length b. Strike reinforcements: 7-gauge. c. Closer reinforcements: 7-gauge. d. Flush bolt reinforcements: 7-gauge. e. Reinforcements for surface applied hardware: 7-gauge. 3. Hinge and Pivot Reinforcement: ¼ x 2 x 10 long straps projection-welded in a triangle pattern in three places at each end. The strap shall be additionally reinforced by a 12 gauge unitized stamped mortar box angle reinforcement, which is welded to two places to the inside face of the frame and at each end of the mortar box forming a rigid reinforcement and a tightly closed mortar box. 2.5 FRAME ANCHORS A. Jamb Anchors: 1. Masonry Type: Adjustable strap-and-stirrup shaped anchors to suit frame size, same gauge steel as frame. Straps shall be no less than 2 x 10 in size jamb shall be as follows: a. Frames up to 7 6 height 4 b. Frames 7 6 to 8 0 height 5 c. Frames over 8 0 height - 1 anchor for each 18 or fraction thereof 2. Frames for installation in prefinished masonry or concrete openings shall be punched and countersunk for expansion bolt anchors and provided with hat shaped reinforcements, same gauge thickness as frame, secured in place with at least four (4) spot welds each. B. Floor Anchors: Floor anchors with two holes for fasteners shall be fastened inside jambs with at least four (4) spot welds per anchor. 1. Gauge thickness of floor anchors shall be the same as frame. 2. Where shown or scheduled provide adjustable floor anchors, providing no less than 2 height adjustment, shall be fastened in place with at least four (4) spot welds per anchor. 2.6 STEEL FINISHES A. Prime Finish: Apply manufacturer's standard primer immediately after cleaning and pretreating. DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

Shop Primer: Manufacturer's standard, fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free primer complying with ANSI/SDI A acceptance criteria; recommended by primer manufacturer for substrate; compatible with substrate and field-applied coatings despite prolonged exposure. B. Factory-Applied Paint Finish: Manufacturer's standard, complying with ANSI/SDI A250.3 for performance and acceptance criteria. C. Color and Gloss: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. 2.7 SECURITY FASTENERS A. Operable only by tools produced by fastener manufacturer or other licensed fabricator for use on specific fastener type. B. Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following or equal: 1. Acument Global Technologies North America. 2. Bryce Fastener. 3. Safety Socket LLC. 4. Tamperproof Screw Co., Inc. 5. Tamper-Pruf Screws. 2.8 ACCESSORIES A. Concealed Bolts: ASTM A 307, Grade A unless otherwise indicated. B. Embedded Plate Anchors: Mild steel shapes and plates, minimum 3/16 inch thick; with minimum 1/2-inch diameter, headed studs welded to back of plate. C. Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: According to AWS specifications. D. Pass-Through Openings: Fabricate flush openings using inch thick interior channels of same material as detention door faces, inverted to be flush with openings, welded to inside of both face sheets and with corners fully welded. Mount shutters on non-inmate side of detention doors. Reinforce for locks and foodpass hinges. 1. Inset Shutters: Fabricate from two steel plates, inch thick, of same material as detention door face sheets, spot welded together and sized to inset inside opening and to prevent inmate tampering of lock and hinges. 2. Overlapping Shutters: For surface application on non-inmate side of door. Fabricate from a single steel plate, of same material as detention door face sheets, inch thick, sized to overlap foodpass openings by 1/2 inch. E. Speaking Apertures: Consist of a rectangular pattern of holes, minimum 1 inch high by 4 inches wide, with holes 1/4 inch in diameter. Locate holes in both face sheets directly across from each other and spaced not more than 1 inch on center vertically and horizontally. Provide inch- thick, pressed-steel baffles in interior of detention door between hole patterns to prevent passage of objects. F. Gun Ports: Fabricate units to comply with UL 752 and to resist same security level as detention doors in which they are installed. DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

7 PART 3 - PRODUCTS 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Examine roughing-in for embedded and built-in anchors to verify actual locations of detention frame connections before detention frame installation. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Before installation and with shipping spreaders removed, adjust detention frames for squareness, alignment, twist, and plumbness to the following tolerances: 1. Squareness: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at door rabbet on a line 90 degrees from jamb and perpendicular to frame head. 2. Alignment: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at jambs on a horizontal line parallel to plane of face. 3. Twist: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at opposite face corners of jambs on parallel lines, and perpendicular to plane of door rabbet. 4. Plumbness: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at jambs on a perpendicular line from head to floor. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Anchorage: Set detention frame anchorage devices according to details on Shop Drawings and according to anchorage device manufacturer's written instructions. B. Where detention frames are fabricated in sections due to shipping limitations, assemble frames and install angle splices at each corner, of same material and thickness as detention frame, and extend at least 4 inches on both sides of joint. 1. Field splice only at approved locations. Weld, grind, and finish as required to conceal evidence of splicing on exposed faces. 2. Continuously weld and finish smooth joints between faces of abutted, multiple-opening, detention frame members. C. Placing Detention Frames: Install detention frames of sizes and profiles indicated. Set detention frames accurately in position; plumbed, aligned, and braced securely until permanent anchors are set. After wall construction is complete, remove temporary braces and spreaders, leaving surfaces smooth and undamaged. D. Grout: Fully grout detention frame jambs and heads. Completely fill space between frames and adjacent substrates. Hand trowel grout and take other precautions, including bracing detention frames, to ensure that frames are not deformed or damaged by grout forces. E. Security Sealant: Apply polyurethane security sealant at all exposed gaps between detention frames and adjacent substrates. F. Swinging Detention Doors: Fit non-fire-rated detention doors accurately in their frames, with the clearances according to NAAMM-HMMA 863. DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES

8 G. Fire-Rated Detention Doors: Install with clearances as specified in NFPA 80. H. Smoke-Control Detention Doors: Install according to NFPA 105. I. Installation Tolerances: Comply with NAAMM-HMMA 863. J. Glazing: Comply with installation requirements in Division 08 Section "Security Glazing" unless otherwise indicated. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Inspect installed products to verify compliance with requirements. Prepare inspection reports and indicate compliance with and deviations from the Contract Documents. B. Prepare field quality-control certification that states installed products comply with requirements in the Contract Documents. 3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Final Adjustments: Check and readjust operating hardware items immediately before final inspection. Leave work in complete and proper operating condition. Remove and replace defective work, including detention doors and frames that are warped, bowed, or otherwise unacceptable. END OF SECTION DETENTION DOORS AND FRAMES
