Hints and recommendations If the instructions are not observed there is the risk of damages or adverse influence on the function of the linear module. 1.2 Due application Linear modules serve the motion and positioning of loads. Franke GmbH does not take any responsibility for damages or personal injuries which are caused by modifications of the linear modules or any kind of use which is not in accordance with the due application. 1.3 Transport During transport Franke linear modules rest in an appropriate packing. Please take care that the linear modules are always protected against shock and deformation. Please store them in a dry and dustfree environment. Before starting up the linear modules have to be mounted within the tolerances of straightness. Any deviation is not allowed to be more than 0.01% of the free, unsupported length. Mount the attachment set for the motor. In case you use multiaxis setups the connecting shafts, adapter plates, and retaining angles should be mounted now. The motor has to be connected in dead condition! Please observe the attachment diagram for limit switches, control system and the connecting scheme of the motor manufacturer. Before starting up all connections have to be checked for correctness. The linear module might cause hurts or damages! The linear drive produces linear motions of high energy; therefore any obstacles have to be removed from the stroke area before startingup. Please take care that the control system is switched off and locked against being switchedon again during the works on the linear module. Please check the correct function of proximity switches and limit switches before startingup. Do not fasten the load anywhere else than to the thread holes of the carrier. During further mounting or maintenance the respective tightening torque for screws has to be observed. You ll find that in chapter 7. Put one end of the belt into the carrier, put it around the second belt wheel as well as through the second Xring. 4. Put the clamping plate of the belt into the carrier and put both ends of the belt into its clamping plate. Take care that the ends of the belt contact each other and that no tooth of the clamping plate remains free. 5. Screw the clamping plate of the belt tightly to the carrier. 6. Push the bearing housing and the carrier again into the aluminium profile. 7. Put the carrier into the right position by means of support rings and slide rails. 8. Screw the drive housing tightly to the aluminium profile. 9. Screw on the cover of the drive housing. 10. Tense the belt (see chapter 2.1.2). 11. Push the cover stripe through the carrier. Screw it together with the clamping pieces. 12. Mount the wipers. 13. Mount the motor and the drive unit as well as all detached parts. 6. Lubrication and cleaning 6.1 Cleaning The surface between the cover stripes and the aluminium profile and also between the wipers has to be kept clean! To prevent damage only use soft materials for the cleaining of the linear modules like e.g. fibrefree cloth. After the cleaning relubricate the accordant parts. The raceways of the guide and the cover stripes have also to be relubricated after each cleaning of the module. 6.2 Lubrication The linear module has to be relubricated after an operating period of 12 months or after a running performance of 3000 km. The relubrication period depends additionally on the load, speed, temperature and environmental influences. For greasing of the modules we recommend the grease make Klüber ISOFLEX TOPAS AK50. The roller guides and journal bearings of the linear modules have a lifetime lubrication. TLP 1. Loosen the clamping pieces for the cover stripe and lift it. Apply a thin lubricant film on both sides ot the cover stripe. 2. The guide rail always has to be covered with a thin lubricant film. Apply a thin lubricant film on the steel races of the double rail. Move the slider several times back and forth over the whole guide length. 3. Insert again the cover tape and screw it on tightly together with the clamping pieces. TLH 1. Loosen the clamping pieces for the cover stripe and lift it. Apply a thin lubricant film on both sides of the cover stripe. Tragen Sie eine dünnen Schmierfilm auf beide Seiten des Abdeckbands auf. 2. TLH with threaded spindle: Apply a relatively big grease quantity on the whole length of the threaded spindle. 3. Insert again the cover tape and screw it on tightly together with the clamping pieces. Take care that the cover stripes is always covered on both sides by a thin lubricant film. If necessary it has to be relubricated. 7 12

9 5. Adjustement of the roller guide First all parts have to be detached in the same way as described in chapter 2.2. respectively 3.1. Unscrew the wipers and renew them if necessary. With the guide cassette we make a difference between the stationary side and the adjustment side. The slide resistance is adjusted by means of the threaded pin on the adjustment side. The slide resistance has to be adjusted in unloaded condition at the position with the easiest run. 1. Loosen the fastening screws on the bottom of the adjustment side. Afterwards retighten the screws without stress. 2. Adjust the slide resistance by means of the threaded pin. 3. etighten the screws on the adjustment side. 4. Push the guide cassette on the double rail. 5. Check the slide resistance over the whole stroke distance. The values can be taken from table 4: Standard values for slide resistances [N]. Take care that the slide resistance in the stiffest position on the rail does not exceed the maximum value! epeat the steps 1 to 5 until the right slide resistance is obtained. etighten all screws with the right torque. emount all parts. Adjustment value TLP 15 TLP 20 TLP 35 TLH 15 TLH 20 TLH TLH with threaded spindle Check the axial clearance of the threaded spindle after every 4000 operating hours respectively after a running performance of 3000 km. Push the carrier to the drive side Measure the clearance by pushing the carrier back and forth in axial direction. The clearance must be less than 0.2mm (TLH 15) or 0.5mm (TLH 20/25). Should the clearance limit be exceeded, the support rings have to be renewed (see chapt. 4). Should after that the clearance be still exceeded the threaded spindle has to be exchanged. 3.1 emoving of the threaded spindle On detachment of the spindle all components have to be checked for wear and be exchanged if necessary (see chapter 4). Check the sliding resistance of the guiding cassette and adjust it properly (see chapter 5). Detach the motor, the drive unit, and all parts which are fastened to that. Turn out the spindle nut from the carrier. 7. emove the locking screw from the carrier. 8. Loosen the locking nut on the drive side. emove the ball bearing and the X rings. 3.2 Mounting of threaded spindle Mounting of the ball threaded spindle Do not turn the nut from the ball screw because otherwise the balls would fall out! Mount the new ball screw together with the nut of the ball screw. Fasten the adjusting nut so tightly that the spindle can be moved radially. Mount again all parts which were detached Mounting of the trapezoidal threaded spindel Screw the new spindle nut into the carrier until the stopping point is reached. Drill a hole for the locking screw into the spindle nut (safety against twisting). The values of the drill hole for the locking screw are found in table 3. Take care that you do not drill into the thread! 4. enewal of the wear parts Check the wear parts every 4000 operating hours respectively after a running performance of 3000 km. Screw off the wipers of the guide cassette. enew all wipers. Check the cover stripe for visible damages. If dust may get into the aluminium profile the cover stripe has to be renewed. Loosen the screws at the clamping pieces and remove the cover stripe. Screw on the new cover stripe together with the clamping pieces. Mount again all detached parts. Slide rails and support rings The clearance between the slide rails and the aluminium profile should be max. 0.2mm. Should this value be exceeded the slide rails have to be exchanged. Do not remove the spindle respectively the belt. Detach the rest of the parts as it is described in chapter 2.2. and 3.1. emove the slide rails and replace them by slide rails of the same colour. Check the support rings for wear and if necessary replace them by support rings of the same thickness. emount again all detached parts. Checking of the bearing If the noise increases the bearings have to be checked. Detach the motor and the drive unit as well as all parts which are fastened to it. Lift the cover stripe and check the belt respectively the spindle and guides for contamination. Turn the driving shaft by hand in both rotational directions. The driving shaft should run easily, without jerking. If this is not achieved the bearing has to be exchanged.
