Collections Single & Double Hung General Information IMPORTANT: Thoroughly read and follow these instructions. Failure to install as recommended will void any warranty, expressed or implied. Before installation check building codes for the area in which the windows are being installed to ensure proper compliance. The installation instructions that follow are based on typical frame construction. Specific applications may differ. The window manufacturer recommends that you consult a qualified installation professional. The window manufacturer is not responsible for installation. IMPORTANT: A number of jurisdictions have adopted building code design pressure (DP) requirements that require window and door products be installed in the same way they were installed for laboratory testing. To comply with these requirements, see Part No Standardized Window Installation Instructions For Maintaining Design Pressure Ratings. FOR ALL NON-DP INSTALLATIONS: Sealant must be applied in all installations. There must be continuous contact with a generous bead of sealant between the window unit s exterior casing and the face of the wall around the window s entire perimeter. The following additional steps must be taken as appropriate. A generous, continuous bead of silicone sealant must be applied to the exterior face of the rough opening before installing the window unit. The exterior casing must contact the sealant continuously along the head and both sides of the unit. Do not caulk the sill area of the rough opening. The exterior casing must fully contact the exterior face of the wall around the window s entire perimeter. A shim space is required around all sides of the window to allow for structure movement, seasonal expansion and contraction, and to provide space for insulation. The shim space cannot exceed: For wood exterior casing windows 1/2" on all sides (1" total for either width or height). Accessories, such as jamb extension, may alter unit width and height. Check rough opening size vs. unit size accordingly. If a shim space greater than listed above exists on the interior or exterior of the unit, use solid continuous furring material to fill this space until the maximum 1/2" shim allowance is achieved. Furring material must be solid, continuous, and run the full height and/or width of the rough opening. Furring strip depth must be at least equal to window jamb depth. Furring material must be securely fastened to rough opening framing. ADDITIONAL NOTES FOR ALL INSTALLATIONS: For any installation that has exposed fasteners, it is recommended to use fasteners made of 300 series stainless steel. Follow your local codes if they specify a different series of stainless steel. Certain options, accessories, and warranty considerations require the unit be installed using installation clips. Instructions for their use start on Page 8. Weather Shield Mfg., Inc. reserves the right, as necessary, to change product specifications, installation procedures, materials, prices and terms of purchase without notice. iii

Recognize this symbol. This is the Safety-Alert symbol. When you see this symbol be alert to the potential for personal injury or product damage. Falling from window opening may result in serious injury or death. DO NOT leave openings unattended when children are present. Weight of window and accessories will vary. Use a reasonable number of people with sufficient strength to lift, carry and install window unit(s) and accessories. Always consider site conditions and use appropriate techniques when installing. CUT HAZARD *Non-safety Glass. *May cause serious injuries if broken. *Do not install where tempered safety glass is required. Screen will not stop children, any one or anything from falling out window. Keep children and objects away from open window. Improper use of hand and power tools could result in personal injury and/or product damage. Follow equipment manufacturers instructions for safe operation. Always wear safety glasses. A Special Note About Masonry SPACE FOR SEALANT MIN. 3/8" MAX. 1/2" WEATHER BARRIER TAPE SPACE FOR SEALANT MIN. 3/8" MAX. 1/2" WEATHER BARRIER TAPE The perimeter joint between window exterior and the exterior building material must conform to siding manufacturers recommendations. All masonry, stucco, or synthetic stucco systems require an expansion joint around the window perimeter that must be filled with sealant compatible with the building material and window components. Expansion joint space should be no less than 3/8" and not greater than 1/2" unless stated otherwise by your siding manufacturer. If there is a conflict, follow siding manufacturer s guidelines. Failure of this joint will cause structural damage unrelated to window performance. iv

Unit Preparation Before Installation FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 SEAL BEFORE INSTALLATION SEAL BEFORE INSTALLATION Collections is a premium all wood window designed for years of enjoyment. Additional years of service can be obtained by ensuring that all wood surfaces that will become inaccessible after installation are sealed against moisture before the unit is installed. The following should be sealed before installation (FIGURES 1 & 2): Top of Head Jamb Bottom of Sill Outside Surfaces of Side Jambs Sides and Top of Exterior Casing After installation, all exposed raw wood surfaces must be sealed. See the Collections Recommended Finishing Instructions starting on Page 23. Normal installation calls for fastening through the exterior casing into the rough opening framing. An alternative method is to use installation clips (FIGURES 3 & 4) to avoid fastening through exterior components. Clip installation procedures start on Page 8. IMPORTANT: If installation clips will be used, they must be attached to the window unit before starting installation. There is a 5 1 /2" long clip (Part No ) or an 11" long clip (Part No ) available. FIGURE 3 5-½" STANDARD Part # FIGURE 4 11" Part # v

IMPORTANT: When accessories have been ordered, check their directions BEFORE you install the unit OR prep the rough opening. Rough Opening Preparation FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 W H FIGURE 3 FIGURE 4 ROUGH OPENING WIDTH JAMB WIDTH JAMB HEIGHT ROUGH OPENING HEIGHT Wear gloves, safety glasses, goggles or eye-shields as appropriate. Read installation instructions completely before beginning procedure. Wire brushed finishes are rough and may produce splinters and slivers while handling. Wear protective gloves. IMPORTANT: BEFORE starting installation. Ensure you have the correct window type (casement, tilt, etc.) Ensure you have the correct size window (Width and Height) for your rough opening (FIGURE 1). Check that your rough opening is 1/2" wider on all sides (1" total for either width or height). Accessories, such as jamb extension, may alter unit width and height. Check rough opening size vs. unit size accordingly. If using a sill pan, be sure rough opening size will accommodate both the window unit and the sill pan. Perform a complete unit inspection checking for shipping damage, broken glass, or other physical damage. Fix whatever is wrong before installation or start appropriate claim procedures. When accessories such as jamb extension have been ordered, apply according to the directions BEFORE you install the unit OR prep the rough opening. 1. Measure the rough opening to ensure it meets the guidelines listed above. Check the rough opening dimensions against the units actual Jamb Height and Jamb Width (FIGURES 1, 2, & 3). 2. Make sure walls are plumb and not twisted. Check rough opening for squareness by measuring diagonally from corner to corner in both directions. Diagonal measurements cannot differ from each other by more than 1/4" (FIGURE 4). IMPORTANT: Fix problems with plumb, level or squareness before proceeding. 1

Rough Opening Prep (cont.) FIGURE Check the rough opening sill for level (FIGURE 12). If sill plate is not level or straight place a 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" shim under the low side. Adjust shim until level is achieved. NOTE: If level isn t long enough to reach across entire sill use a straightedge with the level. IMPORTANT: To ensure that the sash operate smoothly, make sure that the sill is level and straight. 16. Measure the opening diagonally from corner-tocorner (FIGURE 13). The measurements should not differ more than 1/4". Fix problems before continuing. FIGURE 13 FIGURE 14 IMPORTANT: If you are going to install with installation clips, be sure clips are attached to unit (see Page 8) before applying sealant as called for in Step 17 below. If too much time passes between sealant application and window installation, sealant may start to cure preventing a good seal between window and wall. 17. Apply a continuous 3/8" bead of high-quality, exterior, neutral-cure, clear, silicone sealant (compatible with window and exterior face of the wall) to the exterior face of the wall, located 1/2" (FIGURE 14) from the rough opening edge. Caulk around the head and sides of the rough opening. Do not caulk the sill. When the window is installed the caulk bead must contact the exterior casing continuously so it seals the exterior casing against the face of the wall. Normal installation is to nail the unit in place through the exterior casing. See Pages 6 & 7. An alternate method is to use installation clips as described starting on Page 8. SILICONE SEALANT APPLIED ON WEATHER BARRIER SELF-ADHERING TAPE FOR BRICKMOULD UNITS Do not nail or screw through factory-applied finish. Breaking exterior finish coating voids warranty. (Does not apply to factory applied primer paint). Install with interior installation clips. See instructions starting on Page 8. 5

Window Installation FIGURE 1 Weight of window unit(s) and accessories will vary. Use a reasonable number of people with sufficient strength to lift, carry and install window unit(s) and accessories. Always consider site conditions and use appropriate techniques when installing. FIGURE 2 IMPORTANT: When accessories such as jamb extension are going to be installed, apply according to the directions BEFORE you install the unit OR prep the rough opening. Before you begin, make sure sash is closed and locked. Remove all shipping and packing material from the unit. 1. Immediately after applying caulk around rough opening, lift and center window in the opening from the exterior (FIGURE 1). 2. Check unit level and plumb from the interior or exterior across the side and head (FIGURES 2 & 3). 3. From the interior, shim as necessary to obtain level (FIGURE 4). IMPORTANT: If unit is mulled it must be supported with shims at the sill under each mull joint. FIGURE 3 FIGURE 4 6

Window Installation (cont.) FIGURE 5 FIGURE 6 FIGURE 7 4. Drill a pilot hole in the exterior casing at one top corner. Secure top corner with a rust-proof casing nail long enough to penetrate framing material by at least 1-1/2". Drive first nail far enough in so it bites into the framing but do not drive the nail all the way in just yet. 5. While holding unit in place, square and plumb jambs. Check both side-to-side and inside-to-outside. Measure unit from corner-to-corner to check for square (FIGURES 5 & 6). Measurements must be exactly the same. To plumb, level and square, use a pry bar to shift unit and shim from the interior as needed (FIGURE 7). 6. Check again for level, plumb and square. Use shims and a level to straighten the side and top jambs. When unit is straight, level, and true; drill pilot holes through head and side exterior casing and fasten through pilot holes with rust-proof casing nails long enough to penetrate the framing material by at least 1-1/2". Place nails every 8 to 10 inches on center along side and head exterior casing. Do not nail at the sill. 7. Continue to check level and square as unit is nailed in place. Make adjustments as you proceed. 8. When unit is nailed-in, set nail heads below the surface with a nail set (FIGURE 9). FIGURE 8 FIGURE 9 7

Window Installation Using Installation Clips FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 Installation clips can be ordered in two lengths, 5-1/2" or 11", to accommodate varying wall depth. 1. Before installing unit in rough opening, install installation clips on head and side jambs using five (5) #6 x 1/2" Phillips pan head sheet metal screws (FIGURE 1) on each clip. Square end of clip faces the interior. Locate first clip 4" from corner and screw into jamb. Be sure clips are at right angles to the jambs and will be long enough to extend into the interior with enough clip left to secure to the framing. Locate additional clips 12" to 16" apart along side jambs and head jamb. Keep clips at least 4" from any corner. 2. Immediately after applying caulk around rough opening (see Page 5), lift and center window in the opening from the exterior. 3. Check unit level and plumb from the interior or exterior across the side and head (FIGURES 2 & 3). 4. From the interior, shim as necessary to obtain level (FIGURE 4). IMPORTANT: If unit is mulled it must be supported with shims at the sill under each mull joint. FIGURE 3 FIGURE 4 8

Window Installation Using Installation Clips (cont.) FIGURE 5 FIGURE 6 FIGURE 7 Ensure the unit is held firmly in place while performing the following steps. 5. Measure the entire window assembly diagonally in both directions (FIGURES 5 & 6). 6. Shim as necessary (FIGURE 7) to get the diagonal measurements of the entire window assembly exactly the same. 7. With the unit shimmed securely in place, add a shim near each installation clip (FIGURE 8). 8. Start at one corner and bend the installation clip against the rough opening framing and secure it to the framing with at least two (2) stainless steel screws or roofing nails long enough to penetrate framing material by at least 1-1/2". 9. Continue checking level, plumb and square as clips are bent and fastened. Make adjustments with shims to maintain all alignments. Continue around the window bending and fastening each installation clip until all clips are secured to the framing. FIGURE 8 4" SHIM INSTALLATION CLIP STAINLESS STEEL SCREW 9

Drip Cap Installation FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 All installations require a drip cap. 1. Measure and cut a drip cap that is as long as the top exterior casing. 2. Apply a continuous 1/4" bead of high-quality, exterior, neutral-cure clear silicone sealant (compatible with wood aluminum and the exterior face of the wall) to the exterior face of the wall, located above the exterior casing such that the drip cap s vertical leg will seal against the caulk. Continue caulk bead along top surface of exterior casing. Caulk bead must be as long as the drip cap (FIGURE 1). 3. Place drip cap on top of exterior casing and center its length on the exterior casing. Push tightly down against exterior casing and embed the vertical leg into the bead of caulk. 4. Nail drip cap in place through vertical leg with galvanized roofing nails long enough to penetrate framing members by at least 1-1/2". Place nails every 12 to 16 inches along drip cap s length. 5. Fold down head flap of weather resistant barrier and trim it flush with the top of the drip cap (FIGURE 2). After trimming fold the flap back up and tape it out of the way. 6. Cut pieces of self-adhesive weather barrier tape to fit each corner of the drip cap and wall (FIGURE 3). Set aside for later installation. Continued on next page. FIGURE 3 10

Drip Cap Installation (cont.) FIGURE 4 7. Apply a generous bead of silicone sealant along the full length of the drip cap s vertical leg (FIGURE 4). 8. Untape and fold down the head flap of weather resistant barrier so its bottom edge is sealed by the caulk applied in Step 7 (FIGURE 5). 9. Apply self-adhesive weather barrier corner cover pieces created in Step 6, to each corner (FIGURE 6). Use a rubber roller to get a good seal between the corner cover and the face of the wall. FIGURE 5 FIGURE 6 11

Finishing Touches FIGURE 1 1. To finish the window installation, use fiberglass insulation and loosely insulate the gap between the window frame and rough opening (FIGURE 1). IMPORTANT: Do not over pack insulation. IMPORTANT: Do not use expandable foam. Installation is ready for interior wall finish and trim. 2. If unit is nailed in through the exterior casing, set nails below the surface with a nail set (FIGURE 2) and fill the nail holes with color-matched exterior grade wood filler. FIGURE 2 12

Window Lock and Unlock & Sash Operation FIGURE 1 SASH LOCK UNLOCKED ROTATE TO LOCK FIGURE 2 SASH LOCK LOCKED ROTATE TO UNLOCK FIGURE 3 Sash Lock and Unlock Bottom sash tilt latches are integral with the sash lock(s). If sash lock(s) are rotated beyond 1/4 turn toward the unlocked position, the sash may unlatch and inadvertently remain in the tilt in position. After unlocking sash gently push the meeting rail toward the exterior to ensure tilt latches are fully engaged before opening sash. NOTE: On a single hung units only the bottom sash operates. On a double hung units, both top and bottom sash operate and can be positioned independently. SINGLE HUNG TILT 1. To lock unit, lower bottom sash and rotate sash lock lever as far as it will go toward the window glass (FIGURE 1). The lock s cam must engage the keeper in the upper sash (FIGURE 2). 2. Unit is unlocked when sash lock lever is moved 1/4 rotation away from the glass (FIGURE 2). DOUBLE HUNG TILT 1. To lock unit, raise upper sash as far as it will go making sure it fully seats in the head jamb. 2. Completely lower bottom sash and move sash lock lever as far as it will go toward the glass (FIGURE 1). The lock s cam must engage the keeper in the upper sash (FIGURE 2). 3. Unit is unlocked when sash lock lever is moved as far as it will go away from the glass (FIGURE 2). Both single hung and double hung units have two sash locks as in (FIGURE 3). The locks are shown unlocked. FIGURE 4 Sash Operation To open or close sash, turn sash lock(s) to the unlocked position. Then grasp handles and raise or lower bottom sash as desired (FIGURE 4). Upper sash on a double hung unit can be opened and slid down independently of the top sash once the sash lock(s) are moved to the unlocked position. 13

Sash Removal If removing or tilting sash in and returning to closed position while standing on a ladder or step stool, be careful not to lose your balance. Sash can be heavy and caution should be used when removing. It is recommended that the sash be removed with adequate number of persons. Use care when working on ladders and scaffold, falls could occur. Follow all safety procedures recommended by ladder, scaffold and tool manufacturers. Use care when working around window openings, a fall could occur. FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 ROTATE TO UNLATCH TILT SASH IN NOTE: SINGLE HUNT TILT Only the bottom sash is removable. DOUBLE HUNG TILT Both the bottom and top sash are removable Single and Double Hung Bottom Sash Removal 1. Unlock and raise bottom sash approximately 6". Rotate latch levers 1/4 turn toward center of window (FIGURE 1). NOTE: This 1/4 turn of the latch levers withdraws the tilt latches from each side jamb liner. 2. While holding latches in retracted position, tilt top of sash in toward you (FIGURE 2). Once meeting rail clears the side jambs, the tilt latches may be released. Sash now tilts in while remaining hinged at the bottom. 14

Sash Removal (cont.) FIGURE 3 FIGURE 4 3. To remove the bottom sash, tilt sash in so it is at right angles to the window frame (FIGURE 3). 4. Grasp the sash firmly on both sides and lift one side straight up to disengage the sash pivot pin (FIGURE 4). Lift the opposite side up and out of the side jamb. Top Sash Removal Double Hung Tilt 5. To tilt or remove top sash, the bottom sash must be first tilted in or removed. Lower the top sash to about 12" from the bottom of the unit. 6. Slide tilt latches, on top of sash, toward middle to retract the latches (FIGURE 5). 7. While holding tilt latches retracted, tilt sash in until the latches clear the side jambs (FIGURE 6). 8. 24 Screen Removal About Children: The consumer Product Safety Commission, in its pamphlet Protect your Child, advises: Keep children away from open windows to prevent falls. Don t depend on screens to keep the child from falling out the window. They are designed to keep insects out, not children in. Avoid placing furniture near windows to keep children from climbing to a window seat and sill. Prevent injury or death from falling screen. Maintain secure grip on screen until it is safely back inside the structure. FIGURE 1 SINGLE HUNG Screen will not stop children, any one or anything from falling out window. Keep children and objects away from open window. There are three screen types available on the Collections tilt window. The single hung unit has a half screen covering the bottom sash (FIGURE 1). The double hung has a full screen covering both sash (FIGURE 2). A retractable screen, mounted to the interior, is optional. Half Screen Removal Single Hung 1. Remove bottom sash. See previous instructions. 2. Pull down on screen plungers in top of screen frame (FIGURE 3) and pull top of screen in slightly. 3. Pull side screen plungers away from side jamb and rotate screen out of its frame in the window (FIGURE 4). Bring screen inside. FIGURE 3 FIGURE 2 DOUBLE HUNG FIGURE 4 19

Screen Removal (cont.) FIGURE 1 Full Screen Removal Double Hung 1. Remove both sash. See previous instructions. 2. Pull and hold the spring-loaded plungers (FIGURE 1), located on either side of the screen, towards the center of the window unit and then tilt the screen slightly away from the side jamb (FIGURE 1). 3. Pull down on screen plungers in top of screen frame and pull top of screen inward (FIGURE 2). 4. Rotate screen and bring inside (FIGURE 3). Screen Re-Install Reverse above steps to reinstall screen in either a a single or double hung unit with a standard screen. FIGURE 2 FIGURE 3 20

Retractable Screen FIGURE 1 The optional retractable screen is housed in a cassette at the top of the window (FIGURE 1). To lower the screen, grasp the built-in handle and pull it straight down to the sill (FIGURE 2). FIGURE 2 FIGURE 3 SCREEN LATCH LATCHED The screen must be fully extended or completely retracted. There are no intermediate latching points. The screen track, mounted on each side jamb, has a latch that will hold the screen fully extended at the sill (FIGURE 3). IMPORTANT: Whenever extending or retracting the screen keep a firm grip on the handle. Do not allow screen to fly up into the cassette. There is a recoil spring built into the screen cassette to help raise the screen and its pull must be controlled by hanging on to the handle when operating the screen. 21

Retractable Screen (cont.) FIGURE 4 SCREEN LATCH LATCHED 1. To latch the screen fully extended, bring screen completely down to the sill and push down on the screen handle. Visually check that the latches on each side have engaged the screen pull bar (FIGURE 4). NOTE: It may be necessary to push down on the screen pull bar at each corner to ensure the pull bar fully engages each screen latch. 2. To retract (raise) the screen, push gently toward the outside, on the handle to release the latches (FIGURES 5 & 6). Keep a grip on the screen handle and guide the screen upwards until it retracts into the cassette at the top of the window (FIGURE 7). 28 Collections Recommended Finishing Instructions Always follow chemical manufacturers safety instructions when using chemicals to avoid injury or illness. Do NOT clean any surface with gasoline, diesel fuel, solvent based, or petroleum based products. Do NOT use abrasive materials or strong acidic solutions against vinyl, wood, glass, or factory-applied finishes. Do NOT scrape or use tools that might damage the surface. Do NOT use mastic-type tapes such as Duct Tape. NOTE: If masking tape is used on any surface to aid in painting or staining, remove tape as soon as possible after use. Tape must be removed within 24 hours of application. For long term use, such as stucco applications; use tape that will release, even when exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time. (Examples include 3M #2080 and #2090 tapes.) Before Starting Remove all hardware so finish can be applied more easily. IMPORTANT: With hardware removed, seal all raw wood in the hardware routs. For Bare Wood Surfaces For best results, wood should be sealed immediately upon installation or upon receipt, especially if unit is being stored for ANY length of time. 1. Remove all construction and adhesive label residue with mineral spirits before finishing. IMPORTANT: Do not sand special surfaces such as wire brushed finishes. Sanding will damage the characteristics of this type surface. Wire brushed finishes are rough and may produce splinters and slivers while handling. Wear protective gloves. A water-proof, ultra-violet resistant, clear penetrating finish is more appropriate for the fine woods used in creating the Collections windows. IMPORTANT: If staining will be done in conjunction with a clear finish, stain first! You will not be able to stain on top of a clear, penetrating sealer. Follow the stain and sealer manufacturer s instructions. -If a stained surface is desired: If no sealer is applied over stain, the wood will weather very rapidly and defects will occur. If applying varnish as a sealer, apply at least two (2) coats. If using a clear penetrating sealer, follow manufacturer s instructions. In all cases, test any stain and sealer combination in an inconspicuous spot, before applying the stain/sealer combination to the whole unit. 1. Use a high-quality oil or water based stain. A gel stain is easier to apply as it does not easily run or drip. The clear top coats may be oil or water-based. Apply at least two top coats of varnish or sealer. For a Varnish Finish 2. Apply one (1) coat of varnish to the stained surface and let dry. Use an exterior, UV inhibiting varnish as a sealer to provide extra protection against sunlight and moisture. Let varnish dry completely. 3. Before applying the next finish coat, make sure the previous coat is completely dry. Then lightly buff previous finish coat with #000 steel wool. Clean off all sanding dust and wipe surfaces with a tack cloth. 4. Apply next coat of desired finish to surface and let dry. Apply only one coat at a time. 5. For any additional coats of finish, repeat steps 3 and 4. If a clear, unstained finish is desired, either treat with a penetrating sealer or varnish as explained above, but eliminate the staining procedures. -If a painted surface is desired: 1. An unprimed wood unit requires priming. Use a high-quality oil or water based primer. Use compatible oil or water-based finish coats. Refer to the primer and paint manufacturers instructions. 2. When priming bare wood or repriming, cover all exposed wood surfaces. Priming all exposed surfaces helps prevent end splitting, warping and/or checking. 3. Once primed, apply two (2) coats of paint (on all exposed sides) to each item. 23

Collections Care and Maintenance Maintaining your Collections Casement Keep the glass clean with any household glass cleaning product. Keep the wood surfaces clean by using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Keep the friction hinges clean by removing dirt and grime with a household cleaner and soft rag. Periodically apply a silicone lubricant to the top and bottom hinges. Do not use petroleum based lubricants as these will attract and hold dust and dirt. Depending on sealer applied, common household wood cleaning products can be used to clean the wood surfaces. Do not use these cleaning products if wood has been left unsealed as they may produce stains or blotches. HARDWARE MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT: Do not use any brass or bronze cleaning agents that contain petroleum distillates. The Stone River Bronze hardware is offered in two finishes, dark antique and natural nickel. To clean, wipe hardware with a soft cloth dampened with mild household cleaner. Do not use any abrasive products to clean Stone River Bronze hardware. Once soiled spots are removed, use a soft clean cloth to gently wipe surface completely dry. See instructions below for products and techniques to maintain this fine hardware. For Natural Nickel Finishes These finishes can be restored to their natural luster by periodically applying Flitz Metal Polish and then sealing with Stone River Bronze Clear Wax. Read and follow the complete instructions on the Flitz product label. In general, the metal polish is applied with a soft, clean, moist or dry cloth do not let polish dry on hardware. Use a soft, clean, dry cloth to buff hardware and polish before polish dries. After applying and buffing the Flitz Metal Polish, apply a coat of Stone River Bronze Clear Wax. Apply wax with a clean soft cloth. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes then buff excess wax off surface with a clean soft cloth. For Dark Antique Finishes This finish can be restored to its original luster by periodically applying Stone River Bronze Rubbing Oil. Apply a small amount of bronze rubbing oil to a clean, soft cotton cloth until damp. Gently rub bronze surface with oil dampened cloth. Allow bronze surface to absorb rubbing oil before lightly buffing with a soft, clean dry cloth. MATERIAL SOURCES Flitz Metal Polish is available at hardware stores and home centers. It is made by: Prime Time Solutions, Inc. 23 Garfield St Torrington, CT Telephone: They also sell direct through their web site at: Stone River Bronze can be reached at: P.O. 32 Weather Shield Products With Synthetic Stucco Serious concerns have been raised about excessive moisture problems in homes and other buildings that have Exterior Insulation Finish Systems, commonly referred to as EIFS or Synthetic Stucco. Many experts agree that a certain amount of water or moisture can be expected to enter almost any building exterior system. The building system should allow such water and moisture to escape or weep to the exterior, so no damage occurs. However, some EIFS systems may not allow water or moisture that penetrates the wall system to weep to the exterior. This can cause excessive moisture to accumulate within the wall system, which can cause serious damage to wall and other building components. It has been reported that so-called barrier EIFS systems are particularly prone to this problem. Moisture problems in any type of building structure can be reduced by proper design and construction with appropriate moisture control considerations, taking into account prevailing climate conditions. Examples of moisture control considerations include flashing and/or sealing of all building exterior penetration points, use of appropriate materials and construction techniques, adherence to applicable building codes, and general attention to proper design and workmanship of the entire building system, including allowances for management of moisture within the wall system. Determination of proper building design, components and construction, including moisture management, are the responsibility of the design architect, the contractors, and the manufacturer of the exterior wall finish products. Questions and concerns about moisture management issues should be taken up with these professionals. Weather Shield Mfg., Inc. is not responsible for problems or damages caused by deficiencies in building design, construction or maintenance, failure to install our products properly, or use of our products in systems that do not allow for proper management of moisture within the wall system.
