SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS The following pictograms are used in these instructions for use: Denotes risk of personal injury, loss of life or damage to the tool in case of non-observance of the instructions in this manual. Denotes risk of electric shock. Carefully read this manual before using the machine. Make sure that you know how the machine functions and how to operate it. Maintain the machine in accordance with the instructions to make sure it functions properly. Keep this manual and the enclosed documentation with the machine. WHEN PUTTING THE MACHINE INTO OPE- RATION: 1. Check if the switch is not in "ON" position before you connect the mains plug to the mains voltage. 2. Always keep the power cable away from moving parts of the tool. SWITCH OFF THE MACHINE IMMEDIATELY IN CASE OF 1. Malfunction in the mains plug, power cable or damaging of cable. 2. Broken switch. 3. Smoke or stench of scorched insulation. ELECTRICAL SAFETY Always check if your mains voltage corresponds with the value on the type plate. The machine has been double-insulated in accordance with EN 50144; therefore, an earth wire is not necessary. When replacing old cables or plugs Throw away old cables or plugs immediately as soon as new ones have replaced these. It is dangerous to put the plug of a loose cable into the socket outlet. When using extension cables Only use an approved extension cable that is suitable for the machine s power. The cores must have a diameter of at least 1.5 mm 2. When the extension cable is on a reel, unroll the cable in its entirety. 10 Powercraft Powercraft 3
4 OPERATION USE Fig.B (RE)PLACING THE BLADE Make sure the plug is not in the socket outlet. Fig.C Make sure the saw blade is not resting upon objects or can come into contact with these, when the machine is switched on. Release the blade clamping screw using the 3 mm socket head wrench. Place the saw blade between the supporting rod and the clamping plate. Fit the locking pin of the supporting rod in the hole of the saw blade. (The saw blade cannot be pulled out). Tighten the blade clamping screw again. When replacing the saw blade, make sure the blade holder is free from material residue (like wood or metal splinters). Before use, always check if the saw blade is fixed properly. Switching on Retract the switch (4). Switching off Release the switch. For continuous operation, the pull switch can be locked by pushing the switch-locking button while retracting the switch. Pull the pull switch again to discontinue the locking. SPEED CONTROL When the machine is in operation or when it is switched off, the speed (sawing speed) can be adjusted with the thumb wheel (5). The speed remains constant, even when the machine is used. The required speed depends on the material conditions. The optimum adjustments can be found during use. After operating at low speed for a longer time, you must let the machine cool down by leaving it running idle for approximately 3 minutes at full speed. ADJUSTING PENDANT For an optimum saw result you must adjust the way in which the teeth of the saw blade grabs hold of the material. You can do this by adjusting the pendant. Soft material (wood, synthetic materials, etc.): adjust the pendant to level II or III. For a sharp saw-cut use pendant level 0 or I. Medium-hard material (hardwood, aluminium, etc.): adjust the pendant dependent on the use. For thin material use pendant level 0 or I if rasp or knifes are used. Hard material (steel, etc.): adjust the pendant to level 0. You can adjust the pendant level while the machine is in operation. 4 Powercraft Powercraft 9
5 ADJUSTING THE BASEPLATE ANGLE INLAY SAWS Fig.D To let the baseplate follow properly and rest on the workpiece with certainty, you can adjust the baseplate s angle according to enclosed drawing. The baseplate can also be extended by loosening the two adjustment screws with the 4 mm socket head wrench (figure A8) and subsequently extending the baseplate to the desired length. Make sure that the baseplate s fastening screws are fixed tightly before using the machine again. SAWING TIPS Adjust the saw blade and the speed to the material to be processed. For rectangular curves it is recommended that you use a thin saw blade. Use cooling agent or lubricant to prevent the saw from slamming along the saw line of the material. Check wood, chipboard, building material, etc. for the presence of unusual objects (nails, screws, etc.) before starting to saw. Remove these, if necessary. Secure the material properly. Never support the workpiece with the hand or the foot. Never touch objects or the floor while the saw is still running (danger of backlash). It is not allowed to saw material containing asbestos! Place the baseplate onto the surface of the workpiece, and saw through it with a constant contact pressure of the foot. When the saw blade gets jammed, switch off the machine immediately. Make the hole bigger using proper tools and subsequently pull out the saw blade. When you have finished with the work, switch off the machine and do not put it down until it has come to a complete standstill. Fig.E Inlay saws are only allowed in soft materials like wood, cellular concrete, plasterboard, etc. However, it demands a certain practice and can only be done using short saw blades. Place the saw onto the workpiece and switch on the machine. Leave the bottom edge of the baseplate rest on the workpiece surface, see figure. Slowly saw at an angle in the workpiece, bring the saw to a vertical position and continue sawing along the saw line. Switch off the machine and lift the workpiece when the work is finished. SURFACE SAWS With elastic bimetallic saw blades it is possible to saw off objects that are sticking out (like water pipes, iron bars, etc.) level with the wall. Place the saw blade directly against the wall and bend it slightly so that the baseplate is resting against the wall. Switch on the machine and saw off the object, maintaining a constant side pressure to the wall. The machine has no parts that need maintenance. Qualified maintenance engineers must carry out all repairs or service activities. 8 Powercraft Powercraft 5
6 MALFUNCTIONS In case the machine does not function properly, there are a number of possible causes and corresponding solutions as described below. 1. The electric motor gets hot The cooling air slits in the motor are blocked with dirt Ċlean the cooling air slits. The motor is broken. Offer the machine to the Service department for checking and/or repair. 2. The running machine does not work Interruption in the mains connection. Check mains connection for breaking Offer the machine to the Service department for checking and/or repair. A qualified installer or repair company must always carry out repairs. MAINTENANCE Make sure that the machine is not live when carrying out maintenance work on the motor.
