Sheldon versatile seating comprises of timber slatted bench tops with powder coated aluminium end plates that are fitted to powder coated galvanised mild steel bases. You can add armrests, backrests, workstations, tables and anti-skateboard fittings to ensure that the Sheldon seating is manufactured to suit your specific scheme. The bench tops are available with a choice of timber and finish. The aluminium is available from a range of optional colours. The bench is available with a choice of materials and finishes to suit your scheme and budget. The bench is available with a choice of materials and finishes to suit your scheme and budget. As standard 2 table sizes are available. Other sizes can be manufactured and supplied on request. 7 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION Construction The Sheldon seating design consists of a slatted timber bench top with aluminium end plates and base legs. Optional armrests, backrests, workstations and anti-skateboard fittings available. The timber bench and tops are manufactured using FSC certified timber. The outer rails are 70x70mm section and the cross slats are 70x32mm section screw fixed to 38x38mm full length bearers. The aluminium end plates are polyester powder coated. The aluminium base legs are polyester powder coated. Assembly Sheldon benches are delivered to site fully assembled ready for installation. Long seating will be supplied in sections. End plates Manufactured from 8mm and 4mm aluminium. Block base legs Manufactured from 4mm thick aluminium sheet. Optional armrest Manufactured from 4mm thick aluminium sheet and 32x32x3mm aluminium angle. Optional backrest Manufactured from 63x63x4.7mm and 32x32x3.2mm aluminium angle. Optional workstation Manufactured from 4mm thick aluminium sheet and 32x32x3mm aluminium angle. Standard material finishes Timber will be supplied with a natural finish. Aluminium will be supplied with a polyester powder coated finish. The standard colour is RAL 9005 satin. Other colours are available on request. Optional material finishes Timber can be supplied with optional Ronseal teak stained finish. Other stains available on request. The aluminium can be supplied polyester powder coated to the colour of your choice. Materials - continued Security Fixing All nuts will be fitted with a M10 size plastic domed nut cover to prevent unwanted removal. Samples Material samples are Options Sheldon seating is manufactured to order. Before we can manufacture the seating, we need to know the following: seating lengths materials material finishes accessories required installation type - above or below ground Guarantee Sheldon seating is guaranteed for 15 years minimum. This guarantee is a minimum and is dependant on the product not being misused or abused. All the materials, treatments and construction will allow for a life expectancy considerably longer than this. General specification Construction All Street Design products are designed and manufactured using only quality, durable materials, construction details and fixings, to provide a long-lasting, durable product with a good life expectancy. Assembly Unless otherwise stated all Sheldon seating products will be supplied fully assembled, ready for installation. Timber policy All timber products are manufactured using materials obtained from growers who operate under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC ). Materials Treated redwood products are constructed from FSC certified redwood, from sustainable sources. The redwood is pressure treated after cutting and drilling. Hardwood products are constructed from FSC certified iroko hardwood, from sustainable sources All mild steel fixings will be bright zinc plated, and all stainless steel fixings will be A2 (grade 304). A4 (grade 316) can be specified if the location or project requires it. FSC certified iroko hardwood will be left natural to reduce the need for re-staining and help reduce maintenance costs. If required, the timber can be supplied with a stained finish using 3 coats of quick drying water based wood stain, to the colour of your choice. The aluminium parts are prepped, treated and sprayed with the polyester powder, before being baked in an oven. 8 ACCESSORIES Armrests Sheldon seating can be manufactured and supplied to include a number of seating accessories to ensure that the product is right for your scheme. A number of armrests can be added to assist the less-abled to gain support whilst getting on or off the seating. Armrests will be manufactured to match the end plate material. This will either be galvanised mild steel or dull polished stainless steel, with a FSC iroko hardwood top. As an additional optional extra. the galvanised mild steel can be polyester powder coated. LED Lighting Otional bench armrests Sheldon seating can be manufactured with additional mild steel brackets and timber bearers to assist with the on-site fitting of LED lighting. Bearers or brackets can be added to suit your specific light fittings. Optional brackets and bearer fitted to the underside of the seating to fix the LED light fittings Optional stainless steel anti-skateboard fitting Anti-skateboard studs We are able to supply the benches and seats with stainless steel anti-skateboard fittings. The fittings are screwed to the outer 70x70mm section iroko timber rails. Co-ordinating tables Sheldon tables with mild steel fabricated bases can be manufactured and supplied. The tables can be manufactured to any length to suit your application. As standard the fully welded mild steel base will be hot dip galvanised. As an optional extra, the mild steel bases can be polyester powder coated after galvanising. A range of colours are available depending on stock availability. 9 MATERIAL FINISHES BENCH & SEAT TIMBER AND METAL TOPS Standard timber finish As standard, all FSC Sheldon seating tops will be supplied with a natural finish. Due to the nature of the material and the density of the grain, iroko hardwood is not capable of taking a preservative treatment. Iroko hardwood is a naturally durable material. Left to weather naturally, the timber will eventually turn a silver grey colour. Aged natural iroko Standard stainless steel finish As standard, all stainless steel components will be supplied with a dull polished (brushed) finish. Optional stainless steel finish As an optional extra, the stainless steel components can be supplied with a mirror polished finish. Dull polished Mirror polished Optional timber finish As an optional extra, the FSC iroko hardwood can be supplied with a stained finish. The standard stain will be 3 coats of Ronseal quick drying water based stain. The standard colour will be teak. Other stains and colours can be applied upon request. As part of the future maintenance, all stained products will require additional staining. The frequency of re-staining will depend on the location, use and the effects of weathering and traffic film. The products should be cleaned down, very lightly sanded and re-coated with the original stain. Teak stain BENCH & SEAT BASES Standard mild steel base finish As standard, all mild steel components will be hot dip galvanised. Optional mild steel base finish As an optional extra, the mild steel base can be polyester powder coated after galvanising. The polyester powder coating can be to a specified RAL colour and can have either a matt, satin or gloss finish. Galvanised Galvanised and powder coated Standard mild steel finish As standard, all mild steel components will be hot dip galvanised. Additional mild steel finish As an optional extra, the mild steel components can be polyester powder coated after galvanising. 10 CARE & MAINTENANCE General All Sheldon seating products are manufactured using high quality materials, treatments and finishes. The timber slats are manufactured from either FSC treated redwood or FSC iroko hardwood. The fully welded mild steel bases and brackets will be hot dip galvanised after fabrication. The stainless steel end plates will be supplied with a dull polished finish. All materials require a varied amount of maintenance, depending on the environment, usage and weather conditions. Natural timber, galvanised steel and stainless steel will only require cleaning. In time, stained timber and powder coated mild steel will require re-coating.granite bases will be supplied with a polished finish. Polished granite will only require cleaning. Re-constructed stone will be supplied with a lightly acid-etched surface. The re-constructed stone will only require cleaning. Maintaining the standard FSC timber finishes Natural finish timber can be washed down with a mild detergent. More stubborn surface marks can be removed with a light, hand sand with a 120 grit, or higher grade sandpaper. Excessive sanding should be avoided. Maintaining the optional stained timber finish Stained timber will need to be re-coated after a period of time. The stain can either start to fade, become dull (oxidised) or incur some surface break up. Lightly sand down the timber using a 120 grit, or higher grade sandpaper. We recommend that the timber is re-stained with the original stain colour and manufacturer. Details can be obtained from Street design Limited. Apply the stain evenly, with brush strokes running parallel with the woodgrain, in thin layers, building up the finish as recommended by the stain manufacturer. Maintaining the standard mild steel finish Hot dip galvanised mild steel is a very durable and hard wearing finish. Dirt can be washed off with warm water and a mild detergent. Always use clean water and cleaning cloths to avoid surface contamination. After cleaning, any severe marks can be over painted with a cold galvanised, (zinc rich) aerosol spray. Maintaining the optional powder coated finish Polyester powder coated finishes should be washed down with clean warm water and a mild detergent. Minor touching up can be done with an aerosol to match the original powder coated colour. Details can be obtained from. More severe damage can be repaired by sanding down, by manual or mechanical means, beyond the damaged area, sufficiently far as to ensure that any step in the powder coated finish is removed. This will ensure that after re-finishing the repair will be difficult to detect. Maintaining the standard stainless steel finish Dull polished (brushed) stainless steel should be washed down with clean, warm water with a mild detergent. More severe marks can be removed by using a fine abrasive, such as a Scotchbrite or stainless steel scouring pad. As dull polishing is a process of applying fine linear scratches evenly over the surface, it is extremely important that rubbing down with a abrasive pad is done carefully in a straight line parallel to the existing grained finish. Rust marks or stains are usually caused by environmental contamination from dissimilar materials laid against, or near to, the stainless steel. These stains can be removed as described above.
