Correct installation will add to the lasting comfort and energy savings for the life of your new home. Please read and fully understand all instructions before beginning. Any local building code requirements supercede these recommended installation instructions. If installing in an area of high winds, see the structural engineering report of the product or applicable notice of acceptance for specific fastening requirements. Newer construction methods have led to an increase in air and water tightness in buildings. This can frequently lead to negative interior air pressure. Negative air pressure can draw water through very small openings, increasing the risk of water leakage. The installation method seals the door to the weather barrier (building wrap) of the structure and uses a sill pan to capture and drain incidental storm water from under the door. This guide discusses two sill conditions; 1) the step-down landing where there is an immediate step down to the exterior; and 2) the continuous slab where the sill is at the same level as the landing. The installation of a clad wood patio door without nailing fin into either wall or sill conditions not specifically addressed in this document must be designed by an architect, structural engineer or the manufacturer. 2 Diagram 1: Wall Construction and Installation Types These illustrations show construction details complete with all components necessary for door installation. Do not attempt to install door if any of these components are missing. If necessary, call a contractor for assistance. Improper installation may result in denial of warranty coverage. Three beads of sealant King studs King studs Header Header Buck Trimmer studs Trimmer studs Block Wall Installation This installation assumes that a framework of 2x studs (often called a buck) are fastened and sealed to the concrete/masonry wall with three beads of sealant (use a sealant recommended for concrete/wood joints and follow manufacturer s instructions). The corner joints of this framework must also be sealed. We will refer to this framework of studs as the rough opening. Fully Sheathed Wall Installation The wall framing is covered by sheathing, and the door sits flush inside the rough opening. Open-Stud Installation Open-stud installation is common in the Southwest and typically used with traditional stucco exteriors. Wall framing is not covered by sheathing. Precautions & Safety General Precautions Do not work alone; we recommend using at least two people for installation to avoid personal injury or damage when working with patio doors Use caution when handling glass; broken or cracked glass can cause serious injury Wear necessary protective gear (gloves, clothing, goggles, etc.) Avoid wearing rings, jewelry or loose clothing Secure tools when working on a ladder or scaffolding Secure ladders or scaffolding; follow equipment manufacturer s operation instructions, warnings, and cautions Secure and properly support the door until completely fastened Materials Always read and understand all manufacturer s labels before beginning Heed all manufacturer s warnings and cautions Carefully follow manufacturer s application instructions Properly dispose of unused products and waste material per federal, state, and local environmental protection rules Handling Materials Protect exposed adhesive surfaces from dust/dirt prior to application Note: Temperatures below 32 may cause adhesive flashing materials to shrink and buckle away from backing paper. If this happens, make sure adhesive surfaces are protected from debris. Do not expose adhesive flashing materials to direct sunlight for more than six weeks during storage Apply self-sealing flashing to surfaces that are dry and frost-free After removing backing paper from adhesive flashing materials, do not allow them to fold over and adhere to themselves Press adhesive flashing materials onto surfaces with a j-roller Cut and roll flat any adhesive flashing edge buckle Do not allow any gaps or bubbles beneath adhesive flashing seal (remove and replace flashing if necessary) Avoid over-spraying adhesive onto surfaces not to be covered by adhesive flashing (e.g. glass) Door Product Handle in vertical position Do not drag on floor Do not put stress on joints, corners, or frames Store door in dry, well-ventilated area in near vertical, leaning position and allow air circulation; do not stack horizontally Protect from dust, water, and other contaminates Protect from exposure to direct sunlight Protect from accidental damage from wind and other job-site damages Install only on vertical walls Install only in dry conditions and when sheathing is completely dry JII014 Installation Instructions for Clad Wood Patio Door without Nailing Fin Page 2

3 Prepare Sill Pan The sill pan is a three-sided box made of sheet material that the door sits in on the rough opening. It is designed to catch water that infiltrates into the rough opening and divert it to the outside. This prevents damage from water collecting on the rough opening sill. For continuous slab or concrete/masonry wall, refer to figs. A and B in the diagram below. For sheathed and open-stud wall, refer to figs. C and D. For concrete/block wall and for 2"x4" sheathed and open-stud walls Width of sheet material should be at least 6" (or at least 1/2" wider than the framing) Length of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + 1" For a 2"x6" sheathed and open-stud walls Width of sheet material should be at least 9" Length of sheet material should equal the length of the rough opening + 1" Form sill pan as follows: Crease lines in sill pan using a straight edge as follows (fig. A or C): Lightly crease a line inset 1/2" along both ends and one side of the sheet metal flashing Measure width of door frame (fig. 1) and add 9/16" Take this distance and measure out from back side; crease a line the length of the flashing For continuous slab, Cut across this creased line (fig. A) Fold the three 1/2" sides up; using pliers; fold corners to outside of pan on short sides Sill pan is complete (fig. B) For sheathed or open-stud wall or step-down landings, Cut 1/2" in on both ends of this line (fig. C) Fold sill pan as follows (fig. D): Fold the three 1/2" sides up; using pliers; fold corners to outside of pan on short sides Fold down at remaining crease line Trim height of fold-down to rise of step if necessary Materials /Tools Thin, rigid, bendable sheet material that is not water-degradable (such as bendable vinyl sheeting) Cutting shears Straight edge Duck-billed pliers (for forming sill pan corners) Side jamb width Fig. 1. 4 Inspect Door Before beginning installation, inspect door for the following: Correct product (size, color, grid pattern, correct operation handing, etc.) Obvious damage and defects such as: Cosmetic damage Product squareness If any of the above discrepancies exist, do not install the door; contact your dealer/distributor for recommendations. If the expected environmental conditions are likely to exceed the performance rating of the door, please contact us or your dealer/distributor for further recommendations. Installation of the door indicates there are no viewable defects, damage or expected environmental conditions that will exceed the performance rating of the door. Prepare Door 1 Remove shipping materials such as corner covers, shipping blocks or pads 2 Wipe frame clean with a dry cloth 3 Apply a strip of self-sealing flashing over the dead bolt hole on the frame (fig. 2) as follows: Cut a strip of self-sealing flashing 1" longer and 1" wider than the dead bolt hole Center self-sealing flashing over dead bolt hole 4 Verify drip cap is the length of the door frame plus 1/4" to allow for 1/8" overhang past the ends of header (cut to size if necessary); apply as follows (fig. 3): Cut off the vertical leg of the drip cap If not previously installed, Apply 1/4" bead of polyurethane sealant to the top of the header along the front and side edges Center drip cap on head jamb with 1/8" overhang past the ends of the header Use a block of wood to knock the drip cap into the kerf at the header Inspect Rough Opening Confirm the rough opening has the following minimum characteristics: Rough opening for single units should be 1/2" larger than the actual measurement of the door; for mulled units, it should be 3/4" larger Rough opening should be square (see Tip), level, and plumb; the allowable deviation for level and plumb is 1/16" for every 2' of rough opening length (not to exceed 1/8"); adjust as needed The rough opening sill must be level, not crowned or sagged; adjust as needed The exterior face of the rough opening must be in a single plane with less than 1/8" twist from corner to corner For stud framing, Double studs should be used at all rough openings The header should be supported on trimmer (jack) studs and designed to assure that no load is transferred to patio door unit Prepare Rough Opening for Concrete/Masonry Opening For sheathed wall or open-stud, refer to Appendix: Prepare Rough Opening for Sheathed or Open-Stud Wall. The appendix also addresses radius or curved transom top patio door preparation. Rough opening must be level before starting; adjust as needed. 1 Clean rough opening and surrounding sheathing with a clean, dry cloth, beginning at the top 2 Place sill pan in rough opening sill so the open side faces the exterior Note: Door sits inside sill pan; the back dam of the sill pan should just clear the back edge of the door frame sill when it is placed in the rough opening. 1/2" 1/2" Fig. 2. 5 3 Mark a pencil line on rough opening across front and back of sill pan 4 Remove sill pan Mark back of 5 Apply three 3/8" beads of polyurethane sill pan sealant between marked lines (fig. 4) 6 Place sill pan on top of beads of sealant between pencil lines Mark front of 7 Coat sill pan and up the side jambs with sill pan primer (refer to manufacturer s instructions Fig. 4. Apply sealant for tack time) 8 Apply self-sealing flashing to sill pan as follows (fig. 5): Cut length of flashing to sill length + 6" Cut flashing to width of sill pan Carefully apply to sill pan (flush with back dam) extending Left up rough opening sides jamb Press flashing tightly into corners; smooth out any bubbles/creases with a j-roller 9 Coat buck at side jambs/head and surrounding concrete/masonry with primer according to manufacturer s instructions 10 Cover exterior wall/buck joint at sides with self-sealing flashing as follows (fig. 6): Cut length to rough opening height + 1 1/2"; cut the upper end as shown in fig. 6 Carefully apply flashing to buck and masonry (shown in fig. 6 and 7) 11 Cover exterior wall/buck joint at head (fig. 7) Cut length to rough opening width + Cut flashing as shown in fig. 7 Carefully apply flashing to the buck and masonry 12 Apply polyurethane sealant to the following locations (fig. 7): Back corners of sill pan Across flashing/masonry joint at corners of masonry opening 13 Apply diamond lath to all flashed surfaces to be covered by stucco Install Door This section applies to concrete/masonry, sheathed and open-stud walls. Install only in dry conditions and when everything is completely dry. Wall must be erected in a vertical position. Rough opening sill must be level; do not shim sill. 1 Apply a 3/8" bead of polyurethane sealant across sill pan back dam (fig. 8) 2 Install door as follows: Make sure door is right side up (door sill down) and clad side out Tilt door into the rough opening; do not slide door into place (fig.8) Center the door frame in the rough opening Sealant WARNING To avoid personal injury or damage when working with doors, we recommend using at least two people for installation. Minimize any movement once the bead of sealant on the back dam of sill pan makes contact with the door sill Hold door in place until fully fastened Shim as follows: Buck Note: Shims should be snug, not excessively tight, and provide a parallel shim support by using two opposing shims. Secure shims with sealant or structural Door sealing; side jambs must be straight. 6 3 Fasten patio door using #10x corrosion-resistant screws 6" from each of the remaining corners of the jambs and through the shims; do not drive the screws all the way Drill pilot holes as necessary; countersink for wood putty or plug covers if desired Smear sealant on screw threads before insertion into screw hole 4 Test operation of patio door and check for consistent gap/reveal around and between panels If still not operating properly, remove patio door and repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 5 Structurally secure head and side jambs as follows: Note: Screws must go through shims. Drill pilot holes as necessary; countersink for wood putty or plug covers if desired Smear sealant on screw threads before insertion into screw hole Place two #10x corrosion-resistant screws through the shims at each strike plate in the side jambs and header Place one #10x corrosion-resistant screws through each shim at side jambs and header Drive initial screws completely; do not overdrive; drive casing nail completely Note: If there is foam sheathing, engage structural framing with screws. For high wind areas, refer to structural engineering report or notice of acceptance for fastener schedules. 6 Structurally secure sill as follows: Note: For wood framing, use #10x corrosion resistant screws. For concrete, use 3/16"x2 1/2" self-tapping concrete screws. Drill appropriate pilot holes as necessary Smear sealant on screw threads before insertion into screw hole; fill screw hole with polyurethane sealant If door has a traditional threshold, secure as follows: For single panel swing doors, place two structural screws through the wood threshold 6" from each end For multiple panel doors, place screws through the wood threshold 6" from each end of each panel Most inswing patio doors and some outswing doors have an adjustable threshold; if adjustable threshold: For single panel swing doors, place two structural screws 6" from each end on aluminum sill just in front of the wood threshold For multiple panel doors, place a structural screw 6" from each end on aluminum sill just in front of the wood threshold and one structural screw on aluminum sill just in front of every other adjustable screw Cover top of screws with polyurethane sealant 7 On the exterior, create a sealant joint between door frame and rough opening framing (wrapped with flashing or building paper) as follows: Apply backer rod between the door frame and rough opening members around the door frame (jambs and header) Note: Backer rod should be sized 1/8" larger than the opening being filled, and it should be placed to allow for 1/4" depth of sealant. Apply polyurethane sealant over the backer rod fully sealing the joint between the door frame and building wrapcovered rough opening; sealant should be tooled into a concave surface Note: Follow sealant manufacturer s instructions for this type of engineered sealant joint. 8 Apply additional polyurethane sealant as follows: For step-down landing: Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant underneath the sill, leaving a 1" gap 6" from each end (fig. 9) and at 18" maximum intervals For continuous slab or concrete/masonry openings: Apply a 1/4" bead of sealant around the nose of the sill where it makes contact with the slab leaving a 1" gap 6" from each end of the sill nose (fig. 10) and at 18" maximum intervals 9 On the interior, seal the lower 6" of gap between rough opening and door jamb using backer rod and polyurethane sealant on both sides of door; for locations with low exposure to rain, low expansion foam is acceptable as a sealant 10 Ensure that the sealant on the back dam of the sill fully seals to the inside face of the sill; apply more sealant if necessary 11 Install exterior trim as desired; apply a drip cap on top of header trim Completing the Installation How to check for square: Measure from upper left corner to lower right corner of frame with tape measure TIP Measure from upper right corner to lower left corner of frame with tape measure Compare measurements If both measurements are the same, the door frame is square If measurements are within 1/4", the frame is square; if more than 1/4" difference, the frame is not square Sealant 1" gap 1" gap Landing Fig. 9. 7 Drill 3/8" holes for the lock bolts and install keeper plates; be very careful to avoid drilling completely through sill For step-down landings, install support trim underneath the sill on the exterior where it extends past the landing; trim should be positioned snuggly against the bottom of the sill nose to add firm support Inspect installed door for damage that may have occurred during remaining construction Ensure weep holes or weep channels are clear of debris and/or sealant for proper water drainage; do not seal weep holes/channels if present The following steps may be performed by others: Apply building wrap if appropriate, and in a shiplap manner Install exterior wall surface within seven days of door installation Maintain gap of 1/4"-3/8" between door frame trim and final exterior wall surface (siding, stucco, etc.) unless otherwise specified by local building codes Seal gap with backer rod and high quality caulk Note: Do not apply caulk to the gap above the header drip cap. Insulate and seal void between rough opening and door frame with loose fill insulation; low/ minimal expansion foam sealant may be used if required by local codes; follow foam manufacturer s instructions Apply interior trim as desired Adjust door for best operation Protect recently installed units from damage from plaster, paint, etc. by covering the units with plastic If installing an alarm system, do not penetrate the sill or side jamb within of the sill; seal all penetrations of the door frame Finish and Care Instructions All exposed wood surfaces must be painted or clear finished immediately after installation; failure to promptly finish and maintain the door units may result in denial of a future warranty claim Set all nails below wood surface; fill all nail holes Primed surfaces must be top coated within 21 days of delivery or the surfaces must be reprimed; finish bare wood surfaces immediately after installation; be sure all edges of each panel are sealed Do not paint or varnish the weatherstrip or operating hardware Be absolutely sure the door panel(s) is completely dry before closing the door Seek advice of a local paint professional for finishing methods and products you select; the following represents typical approaches: If staining (recommended only for interior surfaces), Apply pre-stain conditioner if desired Apply stain When dry, sand all wood surfaces with a fine grit ( ) sandpaper to remove raised grain and provide a smooth surface for the finish coats Follow this with at least two coats of high quality, polyurethane finish If painting, Apply an appropriate primer for the type of paint being used When dry, sand all wood surfaces with a fine grit ( ) sandpaper to remove blemishes and provide a smooth surface for paint Follow this with at least two coats of finish paint Caring for Your Clad Wood Patio Door Here are some suggestions to prolong the life of your patio door. Inspect all painted surfaces at least annually (more frequently in coastal/harsh environment). Clean the exterior surface with a sponge, mild soap and water Repair any paint cracks or damage immediately Inspect all caulked joints annually (more frequently in coastal/harsh environments) and repair as needed Clean glass with baby shampoo (1 tsp) or vinegar (1 1/2 cups) and water (1 gallon); never use a garden hose or high pressure sprayer to clean the glass or door Lubricate hardware as needed Replace deteriorated or damaged weatherstrip Ask for your copy of the complete guide to care and maintenance for your patio door. weep hole / weep hōl / n (weep channel) the visible exit or entry part of a water drainage system used to drain water out of a door CAUTION Do not use high expansion foam. 8 Appendix: Prepare Rough Opening for Sheathed or Open-Stud Wall Sheathed Wall For radius or curve doors, see diagram A1. 1 Clean rough opening and surrounding sheathing with a clean, dry cloth beginning at the top 2 If building wrap has not been applied prior to patio door installation (for both step-down landings and continuous slab), Cut two strips of 18" wide building wrap 12" longer than the rough opening side jambs for step down landing, or 6" longer for continuous slab Cut one strip of 18" wide building wrap 24" longer than the rough opening header Apply the side jamb pieces as follows (fig. A1): Staple one side jamb piece to the face of the rough opening jamb wrapping out onto the exterior face of the sheathing; the wrap should extend 6" past the header corner; cut as shown in fig. A1 and staple flat to the exterior face of the rough opening; at the sill for step-down landing, extend past sill as allowed by landing; cut at sill as shown in fig. A1 for continuous slab, trim flush with slab Repeat on other side jamb Staple header piece to the inside face of header, extending 12" past both Cut here jamb corners (fig. A2) If building wrap was applied prior to door installation, Cut the wrap over the rough opening in a modified Y Cut here (stepdown landings) shape, as shown in fig. A4): One 1/2" from the interior edge One 1/2" from the exterior edge One across the center of the sill 4 Place sill pan in rough opening with the open side facing the exterior; if necessary, staple sill pan through the exterior, vertical face only; do not staple through bottom of pan Note: Door sits inside sill pan; the back dam of the sill pan should just clear the back edge of the door frame sill when it is placed in the rough opening. 5 Coat the sill pan with adhesive spray extending up the side jambs on both sides; refer to fig. A5 (follow manufacturer s instructions for tack time) 6 Apply self-sealing flashing to lower corners as follows: Cut two pieces (one for each corner of the rough opening sill) 6"x thickness of the wall + Diagram A1. Radius or Curved Door Preparation Ensure framing is sufficient around curved perimeter to allow for proper fastening Prepare rough opening in same manner as for standard door Install door in same manner as for regular door but apply building wrap as follows: If building wrap has been applied, cut as shown in fig. A and wrap to the inside If building wrap has not been applied, cut three 18" wide strips of building wrap and apply in a shiplap manner as shown in fig. B; cut flush with rough opening Fig. A. These instructions apply to all clad wood patio doors with applied or integral nailing fin. An applied nailing fin is a mechanically attached vinyl fin frequently folded against the cladding; an integral nailing fin is part of the extruded aluminum cladding. Please read and fully understand all instructions before beginning. Any local building code requirements supercede these recommended installation instructions. If installing in an area of high winds, see the structural engineering report of the product for specific fastening requirements. Introduction Newer construction methods have led to an increase in air and water tightness in buildings. This can frequently lead to negative interior air pressure. Negative air pressure can draw water through very small openings, increasing the risk of water leakage. The installation method seals the patio door to the weather barrier (building wrap) of the structure and uses a sill pan to capture and drain incidental storm water from under the door. This installation guide specifically addresses sheathed wall and open stud construction. This guide discusses two sill conditions; 1) the step-down landing where there is an immediate step down to the exterior; and 2) the continuous slab where the sill is at the same level as the landing. Any patio door installation into either wall or sill conditions not specifically addressed in this document must be designed by an architect, structural engineer or the manufacturer. If this happens, make sure adhesive surfaces are protected from debris. It is designed to catch water that infiltrates the rough opening and divert it to the outside. This prevents damage from water collecting on the rough opening sill. 12 Inspect Patio Door Before beginning installation, inspect the door for the following: Correct product (size, color, grid pattern, correct operation handing, etc.) Obvious damage and defects such as: Cosmetic damage Product squareness Splits, cracks, or missing sections in nailing fin longer than 6" Cracks, holes, or other damage to nailing fin within 1/2" of door frame Drip cap that extends the length of the clad trim plus 1/8" overhang on each end; shown in fig. 2 (all metal clad units require a drip cap); drip cap may or may not be pre-installed If any of the above discrepancies exist, do not install the patio door; contact your dealer/distributor for recommendations. If the expected environmental conditions are likely to exceed the performance rating of the patio door, please contact us or your dealer/ distributor for further recommendations. Installation of the patio door indicates there are no viewable defects, damage or expected environmental conditions that will exceed the performance rating of the door. Prepare Patio Door 1 Remove shipping materials such as corner covers, shipping blocks or pads; if there is an applied nailing fin, snap into place perpendicular to patio door frame 2 If drip cap is supplied as a separate piece that fits into a kerf, apply as follows: Apply 1/4" bead of polyurethane sealant to the top of the header trim along the front and side edges (fig. 3) Use a block of wood and hammer to tap the drip cap into the kerf 3 If there is a bent integral fin, carefully straighten 4 Wipe frame and nailing fin clean with a dry cloth (front and back) 5 Confirm the nailing fin and drip cap (if applicable) are fully seated; pay particular attention to the ends; trim or adjust as needed 6 Apply self-adhesive flashing to the upper corners as follows: Cut two small pieces x and apply one to each upper corner of the patio door frame on the interior side of the nailing fin (fig. 4) Note: The center of the tape needs to cover the combination joint of the two sides of the frame, the brickmold joint (if present), or the clad nailing fin joint. Press the tape tightly against the surface 7 If applicable, apply a strip of self-adhesive flashing over the dead bolt hole on the frame (fig. 5) as follows: Apply thin coat of spray adhesive around the frame and onto nailing fin Cut a strip of self-adhesive flashing 1" longer and 1" wider than the dead bolt hole Apply the self-adhesive flashing centered over the dead bolt hole Steps 8 & 9 are only needed for products with applied nailing fin. 8 Apply thin coat of spray adhesive around the frame and onto nailing fin 9 For applied nailing fin only, apply self-adhesive flashing to backside of cladding as follows (see fig. 6): Note: The purpose of self-adhesive flashing is to seal the joint(s) between the cladding, applied nailing fin and clad brickmold (if present). 13 Determine length for head strip by measuring the distance between the outer edge of the side nailing fins; determine length for side strips by measuring the distance between the outer edge of the head nailing fin and bottom of sill Cut the three pieces of self-adhesive flashing to the measurements Apply to backside of nailing fin (and clad brickmold if present) and side of frame beginning at the head; make sure self-adhesive flashing is tight into the joint corner Press firmly onto the surface with a j-roller to remove any creases or bubbles Cut self-adhesive flashing with utility knife at each upper corner down the frame to the nailing fin Fold down and adhere cut piece onto the nailing fin (hold nailing fin perpendicular to the patio door frame) and brickmold (if present) as shown in fig. 6 Repeat the above steps to apply self-adhesive flashing to the sides of the patio door Inspect Rough Opening Confirm rough opening has the following characteristics: Rough opening for single units should be 1/2"-3/4" larger than the actual measurement of the patio door Rough opening should be square (see Tip), level, and plumb; allowable deviation for level and plumb is 1/16" for every 2' of rough opening length (not to exceed 1/8"); adjust as needed The rough opening sill must be level, not crowned or sagged; adjust as needed The exterior face of the rough opening must be in a single plane with less than 1/8" twist from corner to corner Minimum double studs should be used at all rough openings The header should be supported on trimmer (jack) studs and designed to assure no load is transferred to patio door unit For a retro-fit installation, after removing the old door, remove sufficient siding to expose at least 9" of intact building wrap; repair any rips or holes in building wrap before beginning installation; if necessary apply additional building wrap in a shiplap manner to meet the conditions identified in the following section; verify trimmer studs/header are structurally sound. Prepare Rough Opening For open-stud wall installation, see diagram 1 Open-Stud Installation for preparation requirements. For patio doors with a curved transom top, see diagram 2 Patio Door with Curved Transom Top. 15 Hold patio door in place until fully fastened Fasten patio door with a galvanized roofing nail through a nailing fin hole no more than 7" from one lower corner but do not drive nail all the way down (safety: make sure patio door is properly supported until fully fastened) Note: Nail length must be sufficient to penetrate through the sheathing and at least 1" into the framing. To allow for natural expansion and contraction of applied nailing fin, use existing nail holes. Shim as follows: Note: Shims should be snug, not excessively tight, and provide a parallel shim support by using two opposing shims. Secure shims with sealant or structural adhesive; side jambs must be straight. Apply sill piece (if applicable); extend 5" past both corners Note: The top of the sill flashing should be flush with the sill edge. 17 For step-down landings, install support trim underneath the sill on the exterior where it extends past the landing; trim should be positioned snuggly against the bottom of the sill toe Inspect installed patio door for damage that may have occurred during remaining construction Ensure weep holes or weep channels are clear of debris and/or sealant for proper water drainage; do not seal weep holes /channels if present The following step may be performed by others: Install exterior wall surface within seven days of patio door installation Maintain gap of 1/4"-3/8" between patio door frame and final exterior wall surface (siding, stucco, etc.) unless otherwise specified by local building codes or wall surface manufacturers. Seal gap with backer rod and sealant (fig. 22) Note: Do not apply caulk to the gap above the header drip cap.
