4 Run off on yellow, red and lime green construction paper. Students choose one and trim. Run off the shapes that will become the center of the apple. Choose the ones you want to reinforce. You can have these pre-cut or have students practice their fine motor skills and trim their own. To quickly and easily whole-group assess, call out a shape. Students choose that shape and put it in the center of their apple. You can see at a glance who is having difficulty. Children paperclip their pieces so that you can practice another day. You can also make a class set, laminate and trim and use each year. For a colorful anchor chart, make a set that you ve glued together and display on a wall or bulletin board. Caption: Things are really shaping up in Mr(s) s class. OR Shapely creations. TeachWithMe.com
5 The leaves on the yellow and lime green apples can simply be colored with a green crayon, but when you do that on the red apple it appears brownish black, so I made up a leaf template that you can run off on green construction paper, trim and glue to the red apples, or run off on white and color green. 28 Completed samples of the large 3D shaped apples. You can make the other 2D shapes another color (yellow or lime green.) Make and use as an anchor chart bulletin board. Put a new shape up each day til you have covered them all. Children can pick one and make their favorite. I ve also put a different shape in each corner and played Four Corners. To play the game choose a child to be it. They close their eyes (or you can cover them.) Count backwards from 10 to 1 and then holler FREEZE. Children should have picked a corner to hide in. If they are not in a corner they are out of the game. With their eyes still closed, it chooses a shape. All the children who are in the corner with that shape hanging there, are out. Choose a new it and continue playing til there s only one child left. They are the winner of the 4-corners shape game. TeachWithMe.com
