2 SINCE 1976 Bruce Barnes and Howard Sneddon started making outdoor furniture in an old tin shed in Newmarket, Auckland in the 70 s. With Bruce s design qualifications and Howard s youthful exuberance they set out to build the best outdoor furniture money could buy. The business has changed dramatically over the years and Devon furniture has been exported all over the world. One thing that hasn t changed since the 70 s is people continue to buy Devon furniture now, for the same reasons they did all those years ago. Style, comfort, colour and durability. Devon fulfill these criteria by using raw materials and methods of construction which are as timeless as the designs themselves. The old tin shed has long since been demolished, but Devon is satisfied in the knowledge that the furniture they made back then is still out there, surviving everything that mother nature can throw at it.

42 Devon Outdoor Collection 2018/2019 TEAK Teak is a durable tropical hardwood timber, regarded for centuries as the ideal timber for boat building and furniture making where strength and longevity are required. Teak wood will survive for many years outdoors with little or no structural deterioration, thanks to its highly waterresistant quality it s even repellant to insects. Devon s teak furniture is finished by fine sanding and/or brushing. We then buff the surface of the teak to draw out the naturally occurring teak extractives. A coat of timber furniture shield is applied to repel water and dirt and protect. TEAK CARE If your furniture is inside, the natural honey colour of the teak will slowly darken, while your outdoor teak furniture will fade to a silver-grey patina. To maintain the natural honey colour of the teak use your choice of teak care products which can be purchased from select Retail or Hardware stores. Ensure you seek expert advice and ensure you test any protectors, stains or oils on a small, inconspicuous area before applying to ensure you are happy with colours. As timber is a natural material, environmental elements do mean that the furniture needs to be properly maintained and protected. This will ensure your Devon Outdoor Furniture is best maintained for years. 40

43 DEVON FABRIC All Devon fabrics are woven from weather resistant, highly durable acrylic fibres to create a colourfast fabric that won t fade, crack or tear. And you ll find they stay cool even in the hot sun. Our fabrics are sourced in the USA and Europe, where they re used extensively for awnings and for marine applications such as boat cushions they were made to withstand the elements. Our chair covers have been known to last upwards of fifteen years outside but on average you can expect between 7 and 10 years before re-covering is recommended. The Milford Lounge Collection uses Sunbrella Fabrics. This fabric feels like an indoor fabric but is designed for outdoor use being easy-care and weather-friendly, resisting mildew, stains and fading - and includes Quick Dry Foam, a specialist free draining foam designed for use all year round. SYNTHETIC WEAVE Devon woven furniture uses synthetic weave, tightly woven by hand to achieve exceptional comfort and appearance. Synthetic weaves are high-performance outdoor materials UV and fade resistant, and able to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Our synthetic weaves are made from polyethylene, which can be recycled completely residue-free. WEAVE CARE You can clean your Devon furniture s weave simply by using a soft brush, and a mild soap and clean water solution. Don t use any type of abrasive agent or scouring pad, as scratches can remain on the surface. Fabric Care Devon fabric is made from acrylic fibres that resist the growth of mould, unless dirt is left on the fabric for extended periods of time. We recommend regular cleaning to prevent this, with a mild soap and lukewarm water solution. 41

44 Devon Outdoor Collection 2018/2019 DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION We believe the value of a Devon table doesn t rest on the table top. As with most things, it s what s going on underneath that counts, and for all Devon Furniture this includes construction that copes with the stresses of weight and movement admirably. Joints are designed to flex with the timber movement, and extreme weather conditions won t contort the furniture thanks to quality materials and precision design. Shiny Bits Some outdoor furniture suffers because of inferior fittings unable to withstand outdoor exposure, and in particular, salty coastline conditions. Not so with Devon furniture all our fittings are made from quality stainless steel, aluminium and zinc alloy to prevent rust. 47 *EXCLUDING UMBRELLAS Devon Furniture is covered under warranty for any manufacturing defects discovered in materials or workmanship for a period of three years. Timber being a natural material varies in colour and grain orientation and will weather and age when exposed to the elements. Checks, splits, cracks, movement and colour change are all natural weathering processes and are not covered by warranty. All fabrics (excluding stitching), chair covers (excluding synthetic weave) are covered under warranty for three years against the loss of colour or strength, under normal usage and exposure conditions. Devon will repair or if unable to be repaired, replace such defects for a period of three years (excluding synthetic weave) from the date of purchase provided that the product has not been subject to accident, abnormal use, or lack of reasonable care. Surface coatings are not covered by warranty as they rely on the customers maintenance program to ensure their performance. Seasonal cracking that may occur is also not covered by warranty. The warranty does not cover product sold as seconds, product damaged in transportation or furniture used in commercial, contract, or non-residential use. To validate your warranty, complete the Warranty Registration online. Visit within 30 days of purchase, and include a scan or copy of the original GST receipt/tax invoice. 45
