2 urmind Studios, FRANCE Project Name: Presentation of team : urmind Studios The team, as the MindCube project, has been created the 5 th of January Even if the team is born recently, our passion in video games and our unlimited motivation make it efficient and always creative. Our team is composed by Gilles BANBUCK (Developer & Cube Designer, INGESUP Paris), Geoffrey CHERY (Developer & Concept Designer, INGESUP Paris), Ryan DORVILMA (Developer & Beta Tester, INGESUP Paris). We shared the passion for mind games (Tetris, Mastermind, etc ) and super-play scoring. We enjoy playing a game with a simple concept for everyone but with higher difficulty & pure challenge for hardcore gamers. In this point of view, it was an evidence to focus on that in our mind. We wanted to develop an original game playable by every family member. Logical game can be a challenge for adults & educative for children. Speed & Logical is a perfect Cocktail for immediate fun. urmind Studios is proud to show you MindCube, a family logical/speed mind game based on a simple cube. 1 P a g e

4 1. Concept of MindCube The main goal of MindCube is to rotate a cube on 3 axes to reach the right face with the right orientation. As shown in Figure 1, a cube is made of 6 faces. Each face can be oriented in 4 different positions. So you have 1 chance on 24 for each target face. Figure 1. Colored Cube Schema & 3D View In the Classic Single Player mode, the player has 1min30 to reach as many target faces as he can. The player must validate his choice, if the face is the right one he will gain some score points; otherwise he will lose some for a wrong choice. 2. General Gameplay In MindCube, the player has to rotate on axis X, Y & Z to put the Cube into the requested face & position. When player think he is right, he must validate his choice. If it OK, score is growing (+1000 * combo). If not, player got a score penalty (-150). If the player validate without mistake make the Combo up! On the contrary, a mistake will reset Combo to 1. Others modes will be available; all of them will use this basis. Here are some of them: - Time Attack: Solve 20 cubes as fast as you can - Less is Great: Use the less rotation to reach your target. - Combo: Only one rotation to reach your next target. - Puzzle: A 5 by 8 cubes puzzle to solve and restore a picture. - No Limit: No time limit. Infinite cubes with increasing difficulty. Play as long as you can. - Give your road: A plate with all cube values, choose the right path to go to the exit Locally on Multiplayer, the first Mode is a co-op challenge. Like the single player, each player has a Cube and a Target and chooses his difficulty, because we want kids & parents playing together. The main difference in cooperation is that players validate for the 4 Cubes at the same time! Like a Mastermind, if one cube is wrong, MindCube won t accept the combination and give penalty points. On Versus, players compete to have the higher score! It will include attacks to impede other players on their cubes (texture changing, mix the opponent cube, hide cube, change its target, etc ). In addition, players character will be animated and fight on screen! 3 P a g e

5 3. Interface MindCube has a simple concept; so its interface and gameplay must be the same. We only need to display 4 contents on screen: - A Timer (Because all game has an end.) - A Score (Yeah! we need to show who got the biggest one!) - The Cube (Oh really?) - The Target (Oh really? 2) - Instead of the blue cube, the player character/avatar will be displayed at this spot. This is the base for an efficient interface. To complete it, a background, depending on cube textures, will be shown and updated during the game. 4. Controller Gameplay MindCube has been thought to be played with the Xbox 360 Gamepad. We advised to use a Gamepad instead of Keyboard for PC players. Here is the Gamepad buttons mapping: For PC players with keyboard, we mapped as following: Arrow Keys: Rotation X & Y Q, S: Rotation Z Enter/Space: Validate For Multiplayer, each Gamepad is used the same way. 4 P a g e

6 5. Platform MindCube is developed for PC & Xbox 360. This choice has been made because we wanted the game to be multiplayer. We don t exclude a development on Windows Phone but not for the first strike. 6. External Source Code & Resources We started from nothing but we didn t want to reinvent the same code again and again. We have found several source codes for creating a Cube in XNA examples. Some of them didn t match to our goal for so many reasons (rotation to the camera instead of the cube, based on a 3D model without possibility of texture modification). Finally, we found our Cube source code but it needed to be modified to match our needs. This will be the only thing we didn t create. About resources (Cube textures, soundtracks, sounds, backgrounds, etc ), we wanted to show something attractive for both eyes and ears. For the final version, we will be more consistent throughout the content. 7. Current Situation The main part of the game is currently coded and works perfectly on PC. For Xbox 360, no test could be done due to the lack of test machine. Team is working on it to test code on Xbox 360. We upgrade the cube to make it multi-textured and to add features like dynamic texture loading & rotation management. Texture loading & Rotation Management are full effective. We can change texture when difficulty change and we can know the Cube s position and orientation. We can choose the speed of rotation (may be features to unlock in the game) & cube texture is loaded randomly according to a difficulty. We created different classes for each component: Timer, Player, Score, Target, Cube. When the code is structured, you lose less time to debug & to evolve your project. In this context, the game content is also structured. We separate the main Content of the Game & the different Cube levels. Each level contains a cube file (texture to apply) and can have 2 more files: o LVL_BG, o LVL_AUDIO customizing the background for the Cube. playing a custom music. It allows everyone to create easily a MindCube level. All MindCube players could create new cubes & keep the challenge high by submitting them to the player community. 5 P a g e

7 8. Problems & Solutions Rotation Management gives us some problems because we weren t familiar to Matrix. But we found out the solution after few hours of transformation understanding and now it works perfectly. The Multiplayer is not developed yet. We are working on it and it will be available soon. 9. Evolutions of MindCube During the game development, each member of the team had new ideas to enhance the content of MindCube. We discussed about each idea to keep only interesting and achievable ones. So we want to make those evolutions: - Add a gameplay with Kinect, you will rotate the Cube as naturally as you will do with a real one. - Adapt the game for Windows Phone & Android smartphones. - Expand Multiplayer to Xbox Live. - Create new game modes. We also have contact an external company, Digital Simulation, about a device they could create to be played on MindCube. We thought about replacing the gamepad or the keyboard by small cubes (3 inches sided) with gyroscope and Bluetooth. This idea was to make the game accessible to young kids who can t hold a Gamepad. It makes the game more educative as they learn to be spatially logical. 6 P a g e
