1 CAHAN 5.1 Upgrade Password Reset Guide In March 2010 the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will upgrade the CAHAN system from version 4.7 to 5.1. CAHAN 5.1 provides many new features that make the system faster, more powerful, and easier to use. One of the new features is a stronger password policy. Old CAHAN passwords will not work under the new policy, so everyone on the CAHAN system must change his or her password before the upgrade takes place. There will be two major changes to the CAHAN password policy: CAHAN 4.7 Passwords (Current) CAHAN 5.1 Passwords (New) Never need to be changed Must be changed at least once every 180 days Can be any combination of five or more characters Must be five or more characters long and have one of each: Letter Number Special character Here are some examples of special characters: $!@?.<>#-_*& The new password rules help California comply with federal guidelines by using the strongest possible security measures. It is very important to change your CAHAN password before the upgrade in March. If you do not, you may be locked out of the system. After the upgrade, CAHAN 5.1 will help you keep track of your password. As your password gets close to being 180 days old, the system will send you friendly reminders to log in and create a new password. Or, if you forget your password, you can get a temporary one by using the new Password Reset feature. You can change your CAHAN password right now by performing the following steps: 1. 2 2. Log into CAHAN using your User ID and password. If you do not have this information, contact your local Health Alert Network (HAN) Coordinator using the list below, or the CAHAN Team at 3. Click My Profile in the menu at the top of the screen. Copyright 2010 CDPH EPO 2 All Rights Reserved

3 4. Click Change My Password on the left. 5. Use the form to change your password. Type in your current password, and then enter a new one. Verify your new password, then click Save. Be sure your new password follows the rules listed above. Your password must be at least five characters long and have one or more letters, numbers, and special characters. 6. After you click Save, you have completed your password change. You may then close your Internet browser. If you would like to use CAHAN after changing your password, you must close all Internet browser windows and log back into CAHAN (see steps 1-2). Once you change your password, you will be able to access CAHAN after the upgrade in March. Write down your User ID and password and keep it in a safe location. If you have a CAHAN business card, write your User ID and password on that. Keep your login information with you at all times in case you need to access CAHAN during an unexpected emergency.
