King Nebbie Angel King Nebbie: Daniel 4 Skit: The King s Dream about the Tree! We ve been learning about Daniel and his friends, and King Nebbie, the king of Babylon. Today, our lesson is based on a true Bible story about King Nebbie. (Stand up King Nebbie in front). When King Nebbie lived in the palace, he was pretty happy. But one night he had a dream. The dream made him feel scared. King Nebbie, can you tell us about your dream? O.k., Well, there was this really big tree! (Point to tree). In the dream it grew so tall that it touched the sky! It had lots of fruit (add fruit) and beautiful leaves! (Point to leaves). The wild animals lived under the tree. (Stand up animals). And pretty birds lived in the branches! (Add birds). All the animals and birds were fed from the fruit of the tree. (Give some fruit from the tree to the animals). But then an angel came down from heaven. Let s let the angel tell us what he said. O.k. The angel will tell us what he said. ( Fly angel down and set up in front). Let the birds fly away! (Take away birds). Take the fruit away! (Take off fruit). Shoo, animals! Run away! (Take animals away). Cut down the tree! (Take away tree. Stick Stumpy on Storyboard). But let the stump stay in the grass, and tie it up with chains! But then the dream got a little weird. The angel started calling the tree stump a Him, like it was a person! Tell us what you said about the stump, angel.

3 Daniel 4 Skit, p2 Angel Nebbie: Nebbie: Daniel: King Nebbie: Daniel: King Nebbie: Daniel: King Nebbie: Voice: I said, He ll get all wet with dew. He ll act like an animal for seven years! This will happen so that everyone will know that GOD RULES over all the earth! (Set angel aside). So after I woke up from the dream, I felt scared. I asked all the wise men to come to me. But, no one could tell me what the dream meant. Then I told Daniel the dream. (Set up Daniel in front). I asked Daniel, Can you tell me what the dream means? Now Daniel will tell us what he said: King Nebbie, I wish your dream was for someone else! You know that stump in your dream that was chained up outside? (Point to Stumpy). That s what will happen to YOU! Me? What do you mean, ME? God has said that YOU will have to go out to live with the wild animals, and you ll be chained up outside for seven years! Oh, no! Daniel tried to help him. He told King Nebbie what he should do: Tell God you re sorry for the wrong things you ve done. Do what s right! Be kind to the poor people. Then maybe you can still live in the palace and be happy. (Take king and Daniel away). So do you think King Nebbie did what Daniel told him to do? (Let kids answer). Let s listen to the rest of the story and we ll find out. Since Nebbie was a king, he was rich! He had most everything a person could want! And he had a lot of power! He ruled over the people. He made the laws, and he could tell people what to do. And with all of that money and power, King Nebbie started to think that he was great. ( Walk Nebbie back and forth in front). One year later, King Nebbie was up on the roof of the palace, walking around. He looked out over the land of Babylon, feeling very proud. Here s what he said: Look at this great land! I have built Babylon by MY great power, so everyone would know how great I AM! Right then a voice came from heaven. It said: (Speak in a loud strong voice) King Nebbie, You have to leave the palace, and go out to live with the wild animals! (Place animals in front of stump). You have to eat grass for seven years until you know that GOD rules over all the earth, and HE s the one who put you in power. Uh-oh. Now everything in King Nebbie s dream started coming true! He had to go away from the palace. (Take away Nebbie). He had to go out to live with the animals, just like in his dream. (Show Nebbie Beast to Storyboard). He got all wet and soggy from the dew. His fingernails grew so long that they looked like claws! (Make a claw with your hand). He had to stay out there for seven years! Let s count together: (Hold up fingers as you count with children) ! And at the end of the seven years, King Nebbie finally came to his senses. He looked up to heaven and praised God. He finally understood that he was not the one who was great. Now he knew that GOD is the one who is great! Transition: Let s have snack now, then we can talk to the Puppet (Show children the Nebbie Beast puppet) and hear the end of the story.

4 Daniel 4 Talk Time and Prayer Talk Time (Storyboard with Nebbie Beast and Stumpy on it; King Nebbie and animals in front of it. Show Nebbie Beast Paper Bag Puppet with Paper Chain around him). Now let s talk to King Nebbie again this time, we ll talk to King Nebbie when he was the beast, when he was crazy and lived outside with the animals all chained up. He ll tell us the end of the Bible story. Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Nebbie Paper Bag Puppet: Prayer Sample: Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Hi King Nebbie! You re looking um-m kind of like a beast. Yeah. Well I was thinking like an animal, and acting like an animal. I even started looking like an animal after seven years! See how hairy I am? It s O.k. We still love you. So, after seven years had gone by, you looked up to heaven and praised God. What did you say? Well I finally understood that GOD is the one who made me king, and HE is the one who gave me power! So, I praised God told him that HE is our GREAT GOD in heaven! I m so glad you finally learned that GOD is the one who is GREAT! He showed you that kings only rule for a little while, but God Is the KING over all of heaven and earth! HE RULES FOREVER! Then what happened, King Nebbie? Well, I wasn t crazy any more! God made me all better, and I got to go back to live in the palace! (Points to King Nebbie Standup). See, that s me over there! I looked much better as a king, huh? Yes. You look much better as a king! Ha-ha-ha. And, I didn t like being chained up outside. Hey, Can you take this thing off of me? (Break chain off Nebbie). Thanks! (Eats construction paper grass, makes snorting sounds, then spits it out). Phew-t-t-t! And, I never did like that yucky ol grass either! Ha, ha! (Laugh with Nebbie). What do you think boys and girls? Do you think you would you like to eat grass? (Let kids answer). I m so glad that God had mercy on you when you called on him, Nebbie! Me too! Hey, that reminds me of a bible verse! (Read Psalm 86:5). What a great verse! God is full of mercy! Can you explain what mercy is? Well, its like when God understands that we re just people. And he loves us so much that he forgives us when we ask him to! Yes he does. And sometimes he lets things happen to us, so that we ll depend on him more. Exactly! I didn t like being outside, but now that its over, I m so-o-o thankful! God has done great things for me! Yes he has! And he will do great things for all of us when we call on him! Who wants to pray with me now? Prayer: Thank you Lord, for being our GREAT God in heaven! You are the one who is great! You are the one we love. You rule over everyone, even over the rulers and kings! And you will rule forever! Thank you for your great mercy, your great love, and that you forgive us when we call on you! In Jesus name. The angel said, Take the animals away! Cut down the tree! But the stump can stay! King Nebbie was scared when he awoke. Asked Daniel what it meant; And Daniel spoke: He told him, The tree in your dream is YOU! Now what did he think King Nebbie should do? Daniel told him to stop, doing wrong things. That he should be kind, even though a king! All this would happen; He just had to wait. But King Nebbie thought, that he was so great! One year later, as he was acting so proud, A voice could be heard, right out loud. It told him his dream, would now come about. He would leave the palace, and get out! He had to live with the animals, chained, not free. Just like the stump, in his dream that tree. So for seven long years, he had to eat grass. Until he came to his senses -- finally, at last! Daniel, can you tell me what my dream means? (Points to stump). That the stump is YOU! It means that YOU LL be chained up for seven years! Oh no! If you do what s right and be kind to the poor, maybe it won t happen. One year later King Nebbie was acting so proud of himself. (Sticks out chest). Look at this great city that I built by my own power! (Makes a muscle). I m so great! (In loud voice). NOW YOU MUST LEAVE THE PALACE. And that s exactly what happened. Take off Nebbie s crown, lead him over to where he ll be chained, help him monster mask, and chain him up with paper chain. (Follows Helper, lets himself be chained. Pretends to eat grass. (Puts crown on king). Then King Nebbie got to go back to the palace and be king again! Now I thank God for all the good things he has done for me! I thought I was so great, but he showed me who is really great! HE IS OUR GREAT GOD. HE IS FULL OF MERCY! What did Daniel tell King Nebbie that he should do after he told him what his dream meant? Did King Nebbie do what Daniel told him to do? Did King Nebbie s bad dream come true? What happened? Did King Nebbie ever come to his senses? Then what did Nebbie say about God? Then what happened? Question and Answer Time: He should tell God that he s sorry. He should treat the people better. No. He still acted proud and thought he was great. Yes He had to go out and eat grass like an animal. He got all wet and his fingernails looked like claws! Yes. After 7 years, he looked up to heaven and praised God. That God is the one who is great, and that he rules over everyone! He got to go back and live in the palace and be the king again!

How To Make the Daniel 4 King s Dream Storyboard Design Your Storyboard: You can arrange the words and pictures in a way that you think will work best for you and your class. The storyboard design above is just one possibility. Read through the lesson and play with the pictures and characters to see what suits your teaching style best. Words: After you decide on your storyboard design, glue the words where you want them (Use restickable glue to try out the positions). Stickers: Print the black-and-white pictures and color them (shown above), or print the color-illustrated pictures. Note: Enlarge the Tree to 1-1/2 X its original size (150%) while printing or making a copy). The stickers will need to be restickable (or repositionable) since you ll be adding the pictures to, and taking the pictures away, from your Bible storyboard for the lesson (skit). To make repositionable stickers, place restickable or repositionable glue on the back of the pictures: Tree, the Stump (Stumpy), King Nebuchadnezzar (Nebbie), King Nebbie beast, the fruit, and birds. Standups: If you have already done lessons 1-3, you already have Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar, and the Angel from the previous lessons. (These characters are also included in this lesson, as well). The only new standup you ll need to make for this lesson is the Animals Standup. You ll also use the Nebbie Beast Paper Bag Puppet for the last part of this fun Sunday School lesson for children. (See Craft Instructions). How to Use the King s Dream Storyboard: Place Storyboard on the table. Seat children so they can all see it. Introduce the characters to the scene and stand them up in front of the board when indicated in the lesson. The lesson (skit) will also tell you when to add and remove your stickers.
