PAPER SCULPTURE: 3-D Major Project Name: Period Answer the following questions as specifically and as fully as possible. Remember to use art vocabulary when possible. I don t know is not acceptable: brainstorm a thoughtful response. Sketch your Artwork in the frame to the left. Include the base. How many forms did you make? What three colors did you use? OR Black, white and Grey? What is the process that you went through while creating this piece? What new knowledge did you gain? What is the most interesting part of this assignment? What is your overall feeling about your finished artwork? What would you do differently if you were to re-do this piece? On Time: Late Work (-20 points) : Exemplary Commendable Acceptable Satisfactory Craftsmanship: Is the piece Neat? Is there glue bulging or stringing? Quality of visual texture drawing, the base is completely covered, the found objects and paper sculpture are well crafted Completed with neatness and patience Creativity: Unique combinations of forms and shapes, problem solving, and completing a well balanced sculpture Catch the Viewer s Eye: Color combinations, A prominent focal point Leading lines in the compostion Composition The arrangement of the forms, the connecting paper sculpture, and the found objects unify the sculpture

Check the following: Minimum 5 shapes (Use uneven number) 3 Different shapes for Variety Use different sizes of shapes Variety of Visual Textures on the Forms Use 3 colors only OR Black and White Have one area emphasized (Focal Point) WHAT is your Focal Point? No cardboard showing on the Base (cover with construction and/or tissue paper) inches high minimum Add connections for Unity: Paper Sculpture and Found Objects High Quality Craftsmanship (use small amounts of glue)

PAPER SCULPTURE CONNECTIONS AND ADDITIONS Fringing: Make successive cuts all across a scrap of paper. The size and shape of the paper is determined by what purpose it will serve. Layer fringed pieces to add interest and bulk. Curling: Wrap a long strip of paper around a pencil, or curl the paper by winding it around your finger. If you are careful, you can curl paper by using scissors. Hold the paper in one hand and the scissors in the other. Open the scissors wide, and place one blade on top of the paper. Hold the scissors with your thumb on top and place your forefinger underneath. Draw the blade away from you several times. Pleating: Fold paper back and forth in an accordion pleat till you come to the end of the paper. Make a fan shape by gluing one end. Scoring: Open your scissors wide and use one blade like a knife by drawing or pulling it across the paper in a straight line or an arc. Since paper has a grain, scoring helps to make the paper bend easier. Spiral: Starting on the outside edge of a circle, make a small cut into the shape. Then cut around and around slowly moving into the center. This may be done with other shapes, such as rectangles and triangles, too. Just be sure the direction of the cutting lines follow the shape of the object. When you're done, extend the shape by pulling out on the center. Chains: Glue a short strip of paper into a circle. Put another strip through the circle and glue it to itself. Continue adding strips and gluing till you make the chain as long as needed. Ball: At the start, the pattern formed from this method will look like spokes on a wheel. Start with four strips of paper, all the same size. Lay a strip of paper in front of you, and glue another strip in the center at a right angle to it. Glue another strip in the center in between these. Glue the last strip in the center in the remaining space. Turn the whole shape over, and bring the bottom strip up, gluing it to itself. Continue the process till all the strips are glued to form a ball. Cylinder: Start with a square or rectangular scrap of paper. Roll it into a cylinder and glue it shut. Cone: Use a compass to draw a half circle on a scrap of paper. Cut it out, and, holding the shape with the straight side up, curve the ends toward yourself and over each other to form the cone. Make the cone smaller by wrapping it tighter. When you decide how big you want the shape to be, glue it shut.

3-D Geometric Repeat Design Sculpture Art 1

Repeat Designs GEOMETRIC Designs must have repeating geometric shapes within each rectangle EX: Squares, lines, angles, circles, etc.

Repeat Designs ORGANIC Designs must be organic and repeat within each rectangle EX: Snake skin, wood grain, spirals, etc.

Requirements: Include: Minimum 5 shapes (Use uneven number) 3 Different shapes for Variety Use different sizes of shapes Use a variety of patterns Use 3 colors only OR Black and White Have one area emphasized: Focal Point

Directions for 3-D Paper Sculpture Slide a pattern of your choice under a page in your sketchbook and trace it precisely with pencil. Fill sections of pattern with limited color scheme/ 3 colors

Paper Sculpture Making Forms: Materials Needed: Paper/pencil/eraser Scissors Patterns Glue sticks Colored Markers Cut templates and fold all creases before gluing. Be sure to avoid glue squishing during the construction of the forms.

Putting Entire Sculpture Materials Needed: Together: Construction paper Cardboard Xacto knives Elmer s glue String/fishing line/wire (Optional) Decide on a shape for the base. Cover completely with construction paper. Develop a creative way to install forms and additions!

Evaluation Critique and evaluation: 3 Levels No cardboard showing (cover with construction paper) inches high minimum Add connections for Unity Craftsmanship (use small amount of hot glue) (TEKS:1AB,2ABC,4AB)
