2 Update on Australia s actions to combat illegal logging Ben Mitchell Director International Forestry Policy Illegal Logging 7 May 2014 The laws in Australia Illegal Logging Prohibition Act 2012 Australian importers must not import illegally logged timber or timber products into Australia, and Australian processors must not process illegally logged raw logs. Illegal Logging Prohibition Amendment Regulation From 30 November 2014, Australian importers of regulated timber products must do due diligence before they import. Likewise, Australian processors of domestically grown raw logs will also need to have a due diligence system in place. 2 1
