3 INTRODUCTION Mohawk Synthetic MetaliK Board separates itself from conventional paper through its highly-reflective shine that would make you think it s actually metal. Specifically designed for digital print processes and optimized for maximum toner/ink adhesion and static control, MetaliK Board folds easily with virtually no cracking, making it a superb solution for short-run packaging and folding applications while creating stunning metallic effects. MetaliK Board can also provide effects similar to foil stamping without the secondary process or materials. There is demand in the market for unique digital materials and the new Mohawk Synthetic MetaliK Board series offers another opportunity for printers & designers to differentiate themselves. 5 GENERAL HINTS + TIPS Storage, Handling and Press Room Conditions Allow product to acclimate in the press room for at least 24 hours prior to printing. Fan sheets before loading into paper trays to break any normal blocking that may occur. Return unused product to original packaging for storage. Recommended conditions are below: Press Room 50 F 86 F 40% 50% RH Usage -40 F 248 F 10% 100% RH Storage 50 F 68 F 20% 55% RH Folding Scoring is recommended to obtain a tight fold. Traditional scoring techniques such as Press Score, Rotary Score, or Die Score are suitable. Testing is recommended taking grain direction, score depth and score orientation into account. It is not recommended to print heavy % toner coverage/ink density over an area that will be folded, as this could negatively impact toner adhesion to the substrate across the fold. Cutting When guillotine cutting, it s recommended to use stainless steel blades with Tungsten Carbide tips and blade angles of Cotton gloves are recommended to prevent handling marks/abrasions. Apply cutting board to the top and bottom of sheet stack. Cut paper board side up (metalized side down) to prevent guillotine clamps from damaging the metalized surface. Limit sheet stack to 250 sheets per lift. Recommended blade change between 2300 and 3000 cuts per blade. Closely monitor blade cleanliness during the process and clean up any adhesive residue with Acetone. If die-cutting, dies should be made of hardened steel, sharp and free of nicks. Right angle cuts should be made with a 1/16th inch radius hole. Avoid intersecting inside cuts. Recycling Mohawk Synthetic MetaliK Board is not recyclable in the waste paper or plastic recycling stream due to its laminated construction.
