A student of inexhaustible curiosity, Victor never tires of researching and working on his science project. 2. Bitter and resentful, the creature swears to be with Frankenstein on his wedding day. 3. Moreover, Walton does not foresee finding a friend on the open waters of the sea. 4. Gazing upon his first young victim causes the creature s heart to swell with hellish triumph. 5. To appease the creature and give his life purpose, Frankenstein consents to his request for a female companion. 6. Neither wise nor responsible, he deals with this threat by not revealing it to anybody else, instead arming himself for a final confrontation. 7. Limping down the road, the creature met disdain and violence from the people on the street. 8. Until the moment when the creature strangles Elizabeth, Frankenstein mistakenly assumes that the creature s threat is directed at himself. 9. Although Victor loved Justine, he could not admit that it might be his creation who actually killed William. 10. Desperately, the creature begs Frankenstein to create for him a companion of the same species, equal in deformity, to live free from harm.

Robert Walton writes letters to his sister in the opening chapters. 15. When the Creature speaks with Victor in the mountains, the Creature says that all he really wants is a companion. 16. Victor receives a letter from his father informing him that his youngest brother, William, has been murdered and Victor hurries home. 17. Armed with the knowledge he has long been seeking, Victor spends months feverishly fashioning a creature out of old body parts. 18. Though Ernest Frankenstein lives on, all of Victor s siblings and compatriots have been viciously murdered, and his father, Alphonse, dies of a broken-heart. 19. Frankenstein rushes to the room, but the damage is already done. 20. Victor enters the University of Ingolstadt to study natural philosophy and chemistry. Active and Passive Voice Directions for each sentence: Identify the verb in the independent clause (the one that actually controls the sentence) underline it. Indicate whether the verb is passive voice, or active voice Passive = P; Active = A If passive voice, re-write the sentence in the active voice. 21. As a result, Ernest Frankenstein is orphaned and abandoned, much as both Caroline and Elizabeth were earlier in the novel. 22. Even though Frankenstein essentially ruined the creature's life, the creature is sympathetic to Frankenstein when he stands over the dead body of his creator.

Justine faces condemnation, and execution for the murder of William, despite her assertions of innocence. 25. Both Frankenstein and the creature obsess over revenge throughout the story. 26. Some may argue that Frankenstein is responsible for the murders of the creature because he is the creator, or parent, of the creature. 27. Victor, seeking vengeance, pursues the creature to the ends of the earth. 28. Guilty with the knowledge that the monster he has created bears responsibility for the death of two innocent loved ones, Victor grows despondent. 29. Victor must have been horrified by the prospect of creating a second monster. 30. The monster was enraged by Victor s change of heart, swearing that he will be with Victor on Victor s wedding night. 31. Apparently, no one cares about Ernest. Bonus: - Who s Ernest?
