3 The action of the play passes in an R.A.F. Training Camp in the days of National Service. There will be one Interval of 15 minutes Producer: Orry Pochin. The Little Theatre is owned by the Leicester Drama Society, a non-profitmaking organisation founded in 1922 for the furtherance and study of the art of drama. It presents a repertory of plays of all types through the year and, with its club- rooms and library, forms a social meeting place for those who are interested in the theatre. 4 Aunt Edna will approve.... the choice of our next production, 'TIME REMEMBERED'; and look forward to a renewal of her acquaintance with its witty, incisive author, Jean Anouilh. Respected Aunt Edna, who let's face it is still mightily sound in mind and knows a good thing when she sees it, has often found herself in strange and bemusing country these last years; and the busy worlds of the Pinters, the Osbornes and the Weskers do seem to have held little room for her. This is not to say, of course, that Anouilh's play will have nothing for the up and coming nieces and nephews; the fact is that his plays have entertainment for everyone. Anouilh is the only one of the three principal French dramatists (the other two are Sartre and de Montherlant) whose work has been widely produced in England in adaption or translation. The eminent critic, Harold Hobson, saw in the successful "Ring Round the Moon the French play that would at last introduce into British minds the thought that modern French plays, besides being striking, intelligent, and uncompromising, could also be entertaining. It might easily have been true to say even a couple of years ago that Anouilh was regarded as material for the egghead and theatre purist; equally true that he might have remained in this category if it had not been for the electrifying success of the film production of his play, "Becket". Many may not have noticed the authorship of the film, but if they did, his name must have commanded a new and healthier respect. Our audiences have found Anouilh a popular choice. Do you remember "Ring Round the Moon" and "The Waltz of the Toreadors"? They did very well; and we expect our next production to provide you with another Anouilh delicacy.. and don't forget the dates - October 27th to November 5th
