2 Description The OM7AT transmitter accepts an IRIG electrical timing signal and transmits it over a multimode fiber to an OM7AR1 where it is output electrically. The IRIGB signal must be an AM modulated sine wave; these transceivers are not suitable for the logic level signals. The ROM7AT and ROM7AR1 are dual rack- mount versions of the transceivers. The IRIG specification does not specify the electrical interface or amplitude; these transceivers have BNC connectors and accept input signals of 1 to 3.9Vpp. A switch on the receiver sets the automatic gain control stage to output a signal of either 1.3 or 3.5Vpp. The stand-alone and rack-mount versions are inter-operable. OM7AT is a stand-alone transmitter with one electrical input. OM7AR1 is a stand-alone receiver with one electrical output. ROM7AT is a rack-mount transmitter with two independent electrical inputs.* ROM7AR1 is a rack-mount receiver with two independent electrical outputs.* *These cards fit in Luxcom's RMF30 rack. 3 OMA7T Stand Alone Transmitter Indicators PWR: On indicates the unit is powered. 1. The transmitter is normally terminated in 75 ohms. When several transmitters are driven by the same signal in parallel all except one of them must have a high impedance termination. To do this, the box must be opened and the jumper on the 2 pin header removed. It may be stored by inserting one pin only of the jumper on the header. 2. Be sure the three pin header has the shunt on the side nearest to the optics. 3. Power the unit using the supplied 12 VDC power cube. 4. Connect the input to the signal source, preferably with a 75 Ω coaxial cable (a 50 Ω will do). 5. Connect the optical port to an OM7AR1 or ROM7AR1 using a multimode fiber. Transmitter Rack Mount Panel This 19" 1U high rack mount panel can be used when multiple OM7ATs are installed. It holds up to six OM7ATs. The OM7AT is end mounted to the panel using the supplied screws. See Ordering Information. OM7AR1 Stand Alone Receiver Indicators PWR: On indicates the unit is powered. LINK: On indicates the OM7AR1 has an optical link with the remote transmitter. RX: On indicates the OM7AR1 is outputting a signal on the BNC. 1. There are no user settable jumpers in the box. 2. Power the unit using the supplied 12 VDC power cube. 3. Connect the output to the signal destination preferably with a 75 Ω coaxial cable (a 50 Ω will do). 4. Connect the optical port to an OM7AT or ROM7AT1 using a multimode fiber. 5. Set the switch to 1.3Vpp or 3.5Vpp as required. Receiver Rack Mount Panel This 19" 1U high rack mount panel can be used when multiple OM7AR1s are installed. It holds up to six OM7AR1s. A mounting bracket attaches to the clam shell box using the box s screws. This bracket is then attached to the rack using the supplied screws. See Ordering Information. 2

4 ROM7T Rack Mount Dual Transmitter Indicators PWR: On indicates the unit is powered. 1. The transmitter is normally terminated in 75 ohms. When several transmitters are driven by the same signal in parallel all except one of them must have a high impedance termination. To do this the box must be opened and the jumper across the 2 pin header removed. It may be stored by inserting one pin only of the shunt on the header. Do this for both channels. 2. Be sure the three pin headers have the shunt on the side nearest to the optics. 3. Insert the card in Luxcom s RMF30 rack and tighten the captive screws. 4. Power up the PSU-1 power supply. 5. Connect the input to the signal source preferably with a 75 Ω coaxial cable, but a 50 Ω will do. 6. Connect the optical port to an OM7AR1 or ROM7AR1 using a multimode fiber. 7. Repeat the above for the second channel. ROM7AR1 Rack Mount Dual Receiver Indicators PWR: On indicates the unit is powered. LINK: On indicates the OM7AR1 has an optical link with the remote modem. RX: On indicates the OM7AR1 is outputting a signal on the BNC. 1. The ROM7AR1 has a jumper to set the output signal level. The 3-pin jumper in line with the optics has a shunt which when installed closest to the optics sets the output signal is 1.3Vpp, and when installed furthest from the optics sets the output signal is 3.5Vpp. Each channel must be set separately. 2. Insert the card in Luxcom s RMF30 rack and tighten the captive screws. The RMF30 rack may be powered during the previous step. 3. Connect the output to the signal destination preferably with a 75 Ω coaxial cable (a 50 Ω will do). 4. Connect the optical port to an OM7AT or ROM7AT using a multimode fiber. 3

6 ROM7AR/T Rack Mount Cards in a Rack Mount Chassis The RMF30 Rack must have a PSU-1 power supply installed. Two PSU-1 power supplies can be installed if redundancy is required. The figure below shows an RMF30 rack with redundant power supplies and eight ROM7AT cards. The ROM7AR1 cards look similar. 7 *Specifications subject to change without notice. **See instructions. 1. Install the RMF30 in the 19 rack with the appropriate retaining screws (not supplied). 2. A label on the power supply will indicates if it is set for 120V ac or 220V ac. If you wish to change the input voltage of the supply, a switch must be moved. The switch is visible through the ventilation holes in the bottom of the power supply. You can see the silk screen which says 115V beside the switch. You should push the slide switch with a small screw driver (through the ventilation slot) so the switch position is nearer the center of the power supply; conversely if you want 120Vac you must pull the switch so it is close to the 115V text. There is no need to remove the cover, and the unit should not be powered when you do this. If the switch is moved, the voltage labels on the supply should be adjusted accordingly. 3. Connect the power cord into the AC outlet. 4. The Green Power LED on the power supply must be lit. 5. The RMF30 is now ready to receive the option cards. These cards can be installed while the power is on or off. 6. Plug the option card in any slot except the two leftmost slots which are reserved for the main and back-up power supplies. Warranty This Luxcom Technologies product is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years from the date of shipment. Luxcom Technologies will, at its option, repair or replace products which prove to be defective during the warranty period provided they are returned to Luxcom Technologies. Repairs necessitated by misuse of the product are not covered by this warranty.
