4 Page 4 of 10 AARC Field Day 2007 by Ivan Lazure N1OXA Field Day started on Saturday June 23, 2007 around 9:30 am, as people arrived and the plan of attack to set was discussed. First order of business was to assemble the two 10 X 20 foot Canopies for the radio operating areas. After the first one was built and while we were assembling the second one, the wind flipped the first one. After securing it, we had no other problems.

While Myself, N1OXA, and others worked on the R5 Vertical for the other HF station. We also set up a VHF station with 2m and 6m antennas. Next problem, one of the batteries was bad, so we worked around that issue. Than, one of the generators acted up and would not keep running. After several attempts, we had to revise our generator set up. We used the one generator, as needed, to charge the battery.

6 Page 6 of 10 Peter, N1URL, put on a demonstration of APRS and Packet, which was well received. Conditions were bad as most other FD groups reported. Again our biggest issue was operators. I want to thank John, N1JD, for his hard work, he operated from the start till Sunday noon. With his effort we more than doubled our phone contacts.

DFD Russell is mandated by the state of Maine to stay open during an emergency. They are drafting an emergency communications plan and wanted amateur radio operators to be involved. A compromise was made that allowed us to be able to provide whatever necessary communications they needed with outside agencies, yet still allow us to continue other communication needs that may arise in Androscoggin county. DFD Russell has agreed to purchase a dual band base antenna for 2 meters and 70 centimeters and coax. When the shipment arrives, a group will return to the Leeds facility and perform the installation. It was decided that a small hole will be drilled for coax entry and it will be left coiled above the ceiling tiles; If an emergency exists, operators will bring their own transceiver and then drop the coax down from the ceiling.

9 Page 9 of 10 DX contacts by Earle Gilmore N1SVB The past month we made 39 DX contacts representing 24 different countries. Nothing special the month of June, just lack of play radio time accounts for the low contact count. Countries contacted were: PA25, Netherlands; T77, San Marino; OK1, Czech; Republic; 3Z50, Poland; TI2, Costa Rica; UT2, Ukraine; HI0, Dominican Republic; OM5, Slovak Republic; SY8, Greece; 9Y4, Trinidad & Tobago; 5B4, Cyprus; GI3, Northern Ireland; VE2, Canada; 4A3, Mexico; 7X4, Algeria; HA2, Hungary; ZP3, Paraguay; HP1, Panama; S56, Slovenia; PY5, Brazil; F3, France; 4B2, Switzerland; 4N4, Serbia-Montenegro;. There were no real exotic stations worked this month. Also, no Pacific contacts this month. DXpeditions by Earle Gilmore N1SVB There are several DXpeditions to various parts of the world coming up during the month of July. Some haven't been assigned a call as yet or the operators will use the country prefix and their home call.
