1 700-TT--D1 Temperature Transmitter nclosure Kit Installation Instructions Description The 700-TT--D1 is an explosionproof enclosure kit used for mounting a 700-TT- temperature transmitter in Division 1 and Zone 1 hazardous locations. It is designed for use with aychem s industrial heating cables listed on page 2 of these instructions. efer to the Heat-Tracing Systems Design and Installation Guide for Hazardous Division 1 Locations (H56075) for assistance in the design of each heat-tracing system. To minimize the danger of fire from sustained electrical arcing if the heating cable is damaged or improperly installed, and to comply with the requirements of Pentair Thermal Management, agency certifications, and national electrical codes, groundfault equipment protection must be used. Arcing may not be stopped by conventional circuit breakers. Keep components and heating cable ends dry before and during installation. omponent approvals and performance are based on the use of Pentair Thermal Management-specified parts only. Do not substitute parts or use vinyl electrical tape. The black heating cable core and fibers are conductive and can short. They must be properly insulated and kept dry. Damaged bus wires can overheat or short. Do not break bus wire strands when scoring the jacket or core. Heat-damaged components can short. Use a heat gun or a torch with a soft, yellow, low-heat flame. Keep the flame moving to avoid overheating, blistering, or charring the heat-shrinkable tubes. Avoid heating other components. eplace any damaged parts. AUTION: Health Hazard: Prolonged or repeated contact with the sealant in the core sealer may cause eye or skin irritation. Wash hands thoroughly. Overheating or burning the sealant will produce fumes that may cause polymer fume fever. Note: 8HXTV-T and 18HXTV-T are obsolete products that cannot be used with the 700-TT--D1 connection kit. Do not use this kit with any other heating cables. Select correct grommet from chart on right. The grommet I.D. letter is embossed on each grommet. WANING: Fire Hazard. eusing the grommet or using the wrong grommet can cause leaks, cracked components, shock, or fire. Be sure the grommet you select is correct for the heating cable you plan to install. Use a new grommet whenever the heating cable has been pulled out of the termination. 3 1 Allow 2 meters (6 1/2 feet) of heating cable for installation. This includes 90 cm (3 feet) from pipe to enclosure, 50 cm (1 1/2 feet) for service loop, and 60 cm (2 feet) for stripping of the heating cable. Mount enclosure within 90 cm (3 feet) of pipe. 2 Assemble parts as shown. 4 5 Lightly score outer jacket as shown. Bend heating cable to break jacket at score, then peel off jacket. 6 Push braid back to create a pucker. At pucker use a screwdriver to open braid. Bend heating cable and work it through opening in braid. Do not cut braid. 35 cm (14 in) 7 8A For XTV-T and HXTV-T heating cables only: Lightly score inner jacket around and down as shown. Bend heating cable to break jacket at score, then peel off jacket. ut and remove all fiber strands. Score and remove center spacer. emove any remaining core material. 5 8B For BTV-T, HBTV-T, QTV-T, HQTV-T, and LBTV2-T only: 5 mm Notch core. (1/4 in) Bend and snap core. Peel bus wire from core. Peel core from bus wire. Score between bus wires at inner jacket. emove any remaining core material. 9 For LBTV2-T heating cable only: Go to Step A, page 11. For all other heating cables: Mark the jacket. 10 efer to MSDS VN0033 available from aychem. If needed, retwist and straighten bus wires. Insert bus wires into guide tubes as shown. Make sure all strands go into tubes. Guide tubes 15 mm (5/8 in) Push core sealer onto the heating cable to the mark. 7 15 Position grommet in gland cavity. Tighten gland screws, being careful not to change position of heating cable in sealing fitting (see detail). Install flex tube onto gland. Tighten tubing clamp. DTAIL Grommet nd of outer jacket 16 For XTV-T and HXTV-T heating cables only: Loop and tape extra heating cable to pipe. Strap TD to pipe with pipe strap positioned under heating cable. un conduit from TD to 3/4-in NPT hole in enclosure (see note). Pull TD extension wire, allowing 30 cm (12 in) of free wire in enclosure. Apply insulation and cladding. 30 cm (12 in) See note 18 cm (7 in) Note: Install a conduit raceway between the TD and enclosure. Materials to do this are not supplied by aychem. Also, if the distance between the enclosure and the TD exceeds 46 cm (18 in), install a lass I, Div. 1 sealing fitting at the enclosure entrance. 8 17 Strip 13 mm (1/2 in) of insulation off both ends of green ground wire. onnect heating cable braid and one end of the green ground wire to the ground lug inside enclosure. 13 mm (1/2 in) Ground wire Ground lug Heating cable Braid wire 18 Voltage selector switch Select the appropriate voltage supplied to the transmitter by rotating the switch with a screwdriver. 110 is for heating cables powered between 110 and 120 Vac. 220 is for heating cables powered between 208 and 277 Vac. IMPOTANT: Using the wrong voltage will permanently damage the 700-TT- electronics. The address of the transmitter must be selected to match that shown on the installation drawings or line list. This can be accomplished by setting the three rotary dial switches of the address header located on the 700-TT- printed circuit board. To select an address, simply rotate the switches to select the desired number. Numbers read from left to right. The address in the above example is 032. 9 19 Orient the 700-TT- transmitter as shown. Position the 700-TT- board over the standoffs and tighten screws. 20 IMPOTANT: Do not connect heating cable bus wires or braid to the terminals reserved for the TD. This will permanently damage the 700-TT- electronics. Pack fiber around heating cable as shown. Be careful not to damage cable. Install large plug. 10 23 IMPOTANT: In order for the seal to set properly, a 32 F (0 ) minimum ambient temperature must be maintained at the time the seal is poured and for 8 hours thereafter. efer to material safety data sheet VN0024 included in this kit. Mix sealing compound with water according to manufacturer s recommendation on container. Sealing mixture should be a pourable paste. Pour into sealing fitting. IMPOTANT: omplete commission testing before pouring seals. 24 Install small plug. Install enclosure cover with gasket. Mark the address of the transmitter on the metal tag of the enclosure. 11 A B WANING: Fire Hazard. Heat guns or minitorches can cause fire or explosion in hazardous areas. Be sure there are no flammable materials or vapors in the area before using these tools. Follow all site safety guidelines when working in hazardous areas. efer to material safety data sheet AY3122 available from aychem. Slide black heat-shrinkable tubes onto bus wires. Use heat gun or minitorch with soft yellow flame to gently heat tubes until they shrink. enter clear yellow tube over end of inner jacket. Heat tube until it shrinks and adhesive flows out ends. While still hot, immediately pinch between bus wires and hold for 5 seconds to create a seal.
