3 Level (dbµv) 1.0 Executive Summary 1.1 References MIL-STD-461F, Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Equipment and Subsystems, December Requirements The M&A Technology Companion epad computer and Delta ADP-PH AC/DC Adapter were evaluated with respect to the following MIL-STD-461F requirements. CE2 - Conducted Emissions, Power Leads, khz to MHz RE2 - Radiated Emissions, Electric Fields, 2 MHz to 18 GHz 1.3 Summary of Results. The equipment complies with the CE2 limit with the minor exception shown below. 0 CE2 1VAC 90 k k k 90 k 0 k 1 k 1 k 1 k 1 k 1 k Significant RE2 emissions that alone influence where the equipment can be operated are as follows. The Companion epad with AC/DC adapter exceeds the RE2 limit for helicopters from 2 to 36 MHz. Portions of the frequency range are over the RE2 limit for small-body fixed-wing aircraft (< meters nose-to-tail). Under battery operation, almost all emissions are below the helicopter limit in all frequency ranges The equipment adequately meets emission requirements for certification for use on Air Force fixed-wing aircraft when connected to aircraft 1 Volt AC power and for all Air Force aircraft under internal battery operation.
4 2.0 General 2.1 Item Description The equipment under test was an M&A Technology Companion epad computer and Delta ADP- PH AC/DC Adapter. The equipment will be used during flight. The equipment is shown below. Companion epad Computer Front Companion epad Computer Back
5 ADP-PH AC/DC Adapter 2.2 Modes of Operation The Companion epad was turned on with the Windows Desktop displayed. Complete data scans were taken with the computer powered by the AC/DC adapter (1 Volts, Hz). Additional measurements were accomplished under battery operation where possibly improved results were anticipated. 2.3 Facility The measurements were performed in a foot x 18 foot x foot shielding room. The room is treated with anechoic material in accordance with MIL-STD-461F requirements. For CE2 and RE2, test instrumentation was located in a separate shielded control room. 2.4 Test Setups The general test setup was as shown below.
6 LISNs General Setup A standard test equipment item used during all testing was a Line Impedance Stabilization Networks (LISNs) inserted in the power leads per MIL-STD-461F. The network has two sections, one for the high side of the power and a second for the return side. 7 3.0 Measurement Results 3.1 CE2 - Conducted Emissions, Power Leads, khz to MHz CE2 Measurement Conditions The Companion epad and ADP-PH AC/DC Adapter and measurement conditions were set up in accordance with MIL-STD-461F requirements. The instrumentation used is listed below. The bandwidths and sweep times used are listed below. Test frequencies and voltage levels that are injected at the power lead connections to the LISNs are shown below. The injected level is 6 db below the MIL-STD-461F limit and is calculated as a peak-to-peak voltage measured on an oscilloscope. A calibrated signal is applied at the EUT power connection at each LISN at a level that is 6 db below the MIL-STD-461 limit. 21 EMCO 36 Double Ridge Guide EMCO 31 Double Ridge Guide The cable loss from the antenna to the measurement receiver as stored in the software is shown below. The loss was measured using a signal source and power meter. A reference level was first established on the power meter at each frequency. The entire cable was then inserted and the power level again measured. The difference is the cable loss. Cable Loss - Semflex Coax A preamplifier is used between 1 and 18 GHz to improve the sensitivity of the measurement system. The gain as stored in the software is shown below. 21
