RADIO TO TELETICS INTERFACE CONCEPT The system described here llows the use of portble rdios to ccess the public ddress mplifier s well s telephones on the Teletics system. The exmple shown here will demonstrte simplex (receive nd trnsmit frequencies re the sme) rdio system. Digrm A shows block digrm of the equipment used in this system. Exmple A A person using portble two wy rdio with DTMF pd on it cn trnsmit nd press. When the opertor releses the ptt dil tone will be herd. The opertor presses the ptt nd enters 99. This will llow the opertor to mke public ddress nnouncement over the systems loudspeker system. When finished the opertor presses the # key while trnsmitting. This will stop the interconnect to the public ddress system. If the opertor does not turn off the connection to the public ddress mplifier timer will turn it off fter preset time. Exmple B A person using portble two wy rdio with DTMF pd on it cn trnsmit nd press. When the opertor releses the ptt dil tone will be herd. The opertor presses the ptt nd enters the number of the phone on the system to initite converstion. The opertor cn hng up the phone connection by trnsmitting nd pressing the # key. If both prties quit tlking for preset time the phone connection will hngup. Exmple C An opertor on the Teletics system cn contct someone vi rdio through telephone t ny remote unit. The opertor goes off hook nd dils the number for the remote phone tht is ttched to the rdio interconnect equipment. The phone will ring nd nswer. The opertor enters code (exmple #) nd now nything the opertor sys will be herd over the rdios used in the system. When the opertor quits tlking it will be possible to her ny replies from the field rdios. This connection cn be stopped by simply hnging up. If both prties quit the system will time out nd hng up. EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATIONS Virtully ny two wy rdio cn be used. It is recommended tht digitl or nlog FM rdio system be used, due to its constnt volume chrcteristics. The bse sttion rdio used must hve n ccessory connector to provide the udio nd keying connections to the rdio interconnect equipment. e. 5 FCC LICENSING CONSIDERATIONS Some lrger compnies my consider unique license for their complete enterprise. A look t the internet will find compny tht specilizes in Generl Pool Licenses. However generic GMRS license will work. These licenses re inexpensive nd esy to get. Informtion cn be found on the FCC internet site under the ULS service. WIRING DIAGRAM Digrm B will show wiring digrm for the Kenwood TK90 to the Midin STI controller.

PROGRAMMING RECOMMENDATIONS The STI rdio telephone interconnect products re progrmmed using the KLF nd KLFFPC progrmming cbles nd the STI Progrmming Softwre (not the MPS). Plese refer to the Midin STI mnul shipped with the interconnect unit for softwre use nd instlltion. The vlues listed here for progrm vlues re good strting point. Vlues cn be chnged to customize the wy the interconnect performs. ANI Length: This specifies the number of digits used in the ANI. A vlue of 0 is recommended, the unit will work in the single user mode. If vlue of four is used

then the unit will work in multiuser mode. In single user mode of opertion ll speed dil entries re vilble for use. In multiuser mode the speed dil entries cn be ssigned to different users if desired. Up/Down Digit Reltive to ANI Position: This field is only shown if the ANI length is set to digits. This item llows the interconnect to know where to look for the Interconnect Up nd Down Digits in reltion to the incoming ANI digits. For exmple, if the selection is mde for Leding nd the Interconnect Up Digit = nd the Interconnect Down Digit = # then the sequence of entered digits would be: ANI = Bring the Interconnect Up with the following ANI #ANI = Bring the Interconnect Down with the following ANI And vice vers if the selection for Triling is mde: ANI = Bring the Interconnect Up with the following ANI ANI# = Bring the Interconnect Down with the following ANI Note: You my or my not need the ANI digits when bringing Down the Interconnect depending on the setting of Allow Disconnect with No ANI item locted on the Subscribers Configurtion Form. Enble Direct Access: If checked the telephone cller (Teletics remote sttion phone) cn get directly onto the rdio system without field rdio nswering or if ccess number is entered into the field the cller must enter n ccess code prior to being given ccess to the rdio system. If using the ccess number the cller will receive tone prompt to indicte to the phone cller to enter the ccess code. Tone Digit For Connect: This field sets up the DTMF tone tht will cuse the phone ptch to tke the phone line off hook. The selection rnge is 09, AD, nd #. The tone is recommended for use in connecting. Tone Digit For Disconnect: This field sets up the DTMF tone tht will cuse the phone ptch to tke the phone line off hook. The selection rnge is 09, AD, nd #. The # tone is recommended for use in disconnecting. Connect/Disconnect Tone Minimum Time: This sets the time in 0 milliseconds increments tht the tone must be present before the unit will ccept the connect or the disconnect commnd (0 milliseconds to. seconds). Recommend 00 milliseconds. Toll Override Access Mngement Code: This ccess code llows Subscriber or System Opertor to override ny Toll Restrict Settings tht my be in force. Note: Digits used for Interconnect Up nd Down should not be used s prt of the Toll Override Access Code.

Mobile to Telco DTMF Regenertor Dely: This is dely from the time the unit brings the Telco off hook nd before diling begins. Since the unit does not detect if dil tone is present vlue of to seconds is usully dequte for dil tone to become present before diling commences. Allow Over Air Speed Dil Reprogrmming: This is globl enble/disble for llowing Subscribers to Progrm/Not Progrm Speed Dil loctions respectively. This llows the System Opertor to disble Over The Air Progrmming without hving to visit ech Subscriber Record. Bse/Repeter Type: Select between Simplex, Simplex with Smpling, Hlf Duplex nd FullDuplex. Simplex, Simplex with Smpling re used when the RX nd TX frequencies re the sme. Simplex with Smpling gives the rdio user mens to tke control of the cll if the phone cller is tlking too long or is using obscene lnguge. HlfDuplex is used when the RX nd TX frequencies re different nd the bse sttion does not trnsmit nd receive simultneously. FullDuplex is used when the RX nd TX frequencies re different nd the bse sttion trnsmits nd receives simultneously. Privcy Tone Select: If the unit is setup to operte in Hlf Duplex mode, this prmeter will instruct the unit to generte noise, block udio or llow udio to pss bck over the trnsmitter when the portble in the field is tlking. Chnnel Busy Relese Dely: This progrms the mount of time tht the interconnect will consider the rdio chnnel to be busy fter rdio busy condition hs been detected nd relesed. This pplies to ll types of busy detection inputs. The phone ptch will not keyup the rdio during the dely period when operting in Simplex modes therefore we recommend you keep it less thn second. This field will only ffect Hlf Duplex nd Full Duplex during this initil cll setup until ownership of the chnnel is cquired. Chnnel Busy Detection Source: This llows you to select which of the following sources will be used for rdio busy detection; CrrierOperted Rely (COR) vi the COR input led or the quieting filter vi the discrimintor input. COR Logic Polrity: Select whether Logic Low or Logic High is the ctive stte of the rdio s busy chnnel. Simplex Telco VOX Smpling Intervl: This sets the time in seconds the telephone cller my tlk continuously. When this timer expires, gohed beep is trnsmitted to the field rdio nd the rdio user is given smll window of time to seize control of the converstion. Simplex Telco VOX Smpling Width: This sets the mount of time in 00 msec increments the telephone cller is locked out, giving the rdio n opportunity to seize control.

Simplex Go Ahed Courtesy Tone: When the unit is being operted in Simplex mode, this checkbox will enble courtesy GoAhed Tones to indicte when the chnnel is cler so the other prty cn tke turn. Morse Code ID String: This item is provided to llow the unit to issue Sttion Identifier in Morse Code t progrmmble time. This item will be ignored if no Chrcters re entered. Otherwise, the chrcters entered will be converted to the pproprite Morse Code equivlents before being trnsmitted. Morse Code ID Output Dely Time: This item instructs the unit how often (00 minutes) to issue the CWID String. If the CWID String hs no chrcters defined nd the Dely Timer is greter thn 0 Minutes then nothing will be trnsmitted. If the Dely Timer is set to 0 Minutes nd the CWID String hs chrcters defined nothing will be trnsmitted. Morse Code ID Output Dely Time: This item instructs the unit how often (00 minutes) to issue the CWID String. If the Dely Timer is set to 0 Minutes nd the CWID String hs chrcters defined nothing will be trnsmitted. Telco Hngup Disconnect Time: This sets the mount of time tht the unit will wit before seizing the phone line fter disconnecting ny previous cll. Recommend seconds. Telco Abndoned Cll Timeout: Once connection is completed between the Telco cller nd rdio user, this field is used to determine if the Telco cller is ctive by monitoring the VOX circuit. If no ctivity is detected on the Telco then disconnect sequence will be sent to the rdio user indicting the loss of Telco ctivity nd the connection between the Telco nd rdio user will be disconnected. Telco VOX Relese Dely Time: The VOX circuit in the unit is fst ttck detector tht triggers the Micro s input when someone speks. To prevent it from dropping out between words, the micro hs progrmmble relese time. We recommend using t lest 00ms. This time cn be extended if the telephone cller s voice drops out between words. Number of Rings For Interconnect to Answer MultiUser: This controls how mny times the telephone must ring before the unit will go offhook nd nswer n incoming Telco cll. If set to, the unit will go offhook during the second ring. Pulse Diling Mke/Brek Rtio: If the unit is connected to telephone line which ccepts DTMF diling, this field should be set to Tone Diling. If DTMF is not supported, the unit cn be mde to do pulse diling by selecting the pproprite mke/brek rtio. Currently supported mke/brek rtios re 0/0, /, nd 0/0milliseconds.

Pulse Diling Interdigit Gp Time: When using pulse diling, this controls the mount of time to wit between diling ech digit. Mobile Regenerted Diled Digit On Time: This sets the mount of time the DTMF encoder genertes tone to the Telco. We recommend bout 00 msec. Mobile Regenerted Diled Digit Off Time: This sets the mount of time the DTMF encoder stops generting tone between digits. We recommend bout 00 msec. Repeter/Bse Sttion KeyUp Dely: This sets how long the unit will wit to send ny tone diling over the rdio chnnel. This should tke into considertion how long it tkes the ssocited trnsmitter to key up, come up to full power, nd how long it tkes the receiving unit to wke up its crrier detect. Courtesy Tone For Portble/Mobile Ringing: This feture is used to send courtesy ringing tones to rdio unit if needed. If 0 is progrmmed into this field no courtesy tones re sent to the rdio which llows the cll to the rdio unit to rely on its decoder for ringing. Plese Note thetimeout Dely For Portble/Mobile to Answer register will lwys override nd disconnect when the timer hs expired regrdless of the setting of this register. Timeout Dely For Portble/Mobile To Answer: This is used to provide n utomtic disconnect if the rdio unit tht is being clled does not nswer within the specified period of time. It is not recommended tht this ever beset to 0 except for purposes of testing. The recommended setting of this field should be between to 0seconds. Telco Received First Digit Detection Timeout: This llows the unit to look for the first incoming DTMF digit from the Telco. If the Telco hs not entered DTMF Digit within this time period the Error Tone is sent to thetelco followed by Disconnect Tone nd then the unit hngs up the Telco connection. The unit then goes bck into n idle stte nd wits for further ctivity. Telco Received Diling Interdigit Gp Dely: This item llows the unit to look for successive incoming DTMF digits from the Telco fter the first digit hs been entered. If the Telco hs not entered DTMF Digit within this interdigit time period, the unit will then scertin if it cn continue to process the lredy collected informtion from the Telco or if dt entry error ws mde. If the unit cn continue with the informtion lredy collected I will do so. However, if the unit detects n error with the informtion collected it will then generte the Error Tone messge nd/or Disconnect Tone messge fter which the Telco will be disconnected. The unit will go bck into n idle stte nd wit for further ctivity. Mobile to Bse Abndoned Cll Timeout: This sets the mount of time before the phone ptch disconnects its cll to the telephone line if the mobile forgets to disconnect. The timer strts fter the lst trnsmission from the Rdio.

PTT Click Count For Cll: This llows rdio subscriber to click the rdio PTT x number of times to nswer n incoming telephone cll, disconnect from telephone cll, or to force speed dil cll on the telco if specified. Otherwise, n error tone will be issued to the rdio Subscriber indicting tht the feture is disbled. Note: The PTT Clicks for Speed Dil feture will only work if the subscriber hs one Speed Dil Entry ssigned s Off set Entry 000. PTT Click Count Dely Time: This specifies how quick subscriber must click the PTT on the rdio x number of times to get the specified number to dil out on the telco. If the specified number is not defined then the subscriber will receive n error tone indicting tht this feture is not enbled. 14 Digits re defined one digit less thn re defined in the Restrict Mtrix. LEVEL SETTING AND CALIBRATION Proceed with the interconnect djustments using the following steps. Refer to the interconnect schemtic nd printed circuit bord lyout for loction of test points nd djustment potentiometers found in the user s mnul shipped with the unit. As note of cution, be sure tht the ntenn output of the rdio trnsmitter is properly terminted becuse the interconnect will be utomticlly keyed t vrious points in the djustment sequence below: Be sure tht the interconnect is properly connected to the rdio. The telephone line must be connected to dbm meter, which in turn must be connected to the interconnect vi the RJ femle connector.. Plug the PC progrmmer into the progrmming jck on the interconnect. Go to the top of the screen on the menu br. Click on Dignostics nd select Clibrtion.. Strt by inititing telephone cll to the interconnect using n extr phone line or cell phone. When ringing is herd, click on the RECEIVE AUDIO option using your mouse. This will complete the phone line connection nd turn on the udio pth from the RX Input ll the wy through to IC, the hybrid trnsformers T nd T, nd the phone line vi the RJ connector. Using n FM signl genertor or n FM service monitor with KHz test tone set to mximum system devition (ie. KHz for wide bnd system or. for nrrow bnd system) nd with enough signl to quiet the rdio, djust RECEIVE LEVEL FROM RADIO pot VR for.v pektopek sinewve or 00 MV RMS or Zero (0) db or just below clipping on Pin of IC9B while monitoring with n oscilloscope. Under loded condition (i.e., interconnect connected to Telephone line), set the dbm meter with blnced input to bridging position. Set the TX LEVEL TO TEL LINE pot VR to level between nd + dbm so tht test tone is herd in the telephone erpiece t desired volume. Next, check the trnshybrid isoltion s prt of this tune up procedure. Connect the scope to pin of IC9A nd observe tht the khz test tone is present t this point, lthough t low mplitude. This mplitude t this point must be reduced to the minimum possible using the blncing network. The blncing network consists of the blncing pot VR nd position DIPswitch (SW), which switches the blncing cps C0C on nd off. Use the DIP switch to select combintion tht reduces crossover in the hybrid s seen on pin ofic9a. Ech time you chnge DIP switch settings, finetune blncing pot VR to reduce the signl on pin of IC9A. Repet this process until the best combintion is found. If this is not set properly, voice trnsmitted to the phone line from the mobile rdio will be fed bck into the interconnect trnsmit pth vi T/T trnshybrid. In simplex mode the udio fed bck from the phone line my cuse the telephone line VOX to respond

nd cuse the interconnect to key up when the mobile interconnect speks loudly nd the ntivox feture is not turned on.. Next, select the TRANSMIT AUDIO using your mouse. After selecting this with your mouse, the microprocessor will turn on the udio pth from the telephone line hybrid ll the wy through to the rdio vi TX Input (P Voice Audio Out) ICC. Use the voice network nlyzer or other instrument to trnsmit khz test tone t 0 dbm cross the RJC nd djust the RX LEVEL FROM PHONE LINE pot VR so tht. V pektopek sine wve or 00 MV RMS or Zero (0) db is seen t IC9A Pin. Next set TX LEVEL TO RADIO pot VR so tht the trnsmitter is modulting t the desired system devition while monitoring with the service monitor. The TX pth hs now been clibrted. If you re unble to get enough modultion, it my be necessry to reduce the vlue of R from K. to perhps K. for low impednce Mic circuits.. With the mouse, select the RADIO DTMF encode pth. The microprocessor will now relese the phone line, key the rdio s PTT line, nd generte DTMF tone through Q into FET switches ICA nd ICA nd out the P Voice Audio Out line. Adjust DTMF LEVEL TO RADIO pot VR for / of system devition using n FM service monitor. You my find it necessry to mke further djustments in order to finetune the opertion of the interconnect. This my include incresing the RX LEVEL FROM PHONE LINE if the telephone cller s voice is dropping out. This cn be determined by ctully using the interconnect to mke cll.. After clibrting the unit, select UNIT RESET under the dignostic menu.

RADIOTOPHONE CALLS To plce telephone cll, rdio user keys up nd enters the vlid ccess code from the keypd of DTMF microphone or hndheld rdio. Upon receiving dil tone, the user then dils into the public telephone network. Progrmmble toll restrictions cn prevent longdistnce diling. Rdio users cn even be limited to diling certin preprogrmmed utodil numbers only (APO feture). Authorized personnel cn bypss restrictions by entering the tollrestrict bypss code. The Model 0 cn lso provide limited telephone ccess to rdio users who don t hve DTMF keypds on their rdios vi the fourclick utodil feture (APO feture). By clicking the PTT button four times, rdio user cn cuse the Model 0 to ctivte utodil #. All clls re terminted when the rdio user enters the disconnect code (seprtely progrmmble from the ccess code). The phone prty my lso disconnect cll by entering #0 on the telephone keypd. Converstion timers, busy tones, nd dil tone cn lso terminte cll. PHONETORADIO CALLS If telephone prty (lndline) wnts to cll rdio user, the phone prty first dils the norml telephone number of the phone ptch. This my be stndrd sevendigit telephone number, or perhps digit extension if the Model 0 is on PBX system. After number of rings before nswer (progrmmble), the Model 0 picks up the line, keys up the trnsmitter, nd brodcsts ringing tone over the rdio chnnel to lert the rdio user(s) tht cll is pending. The Model 0 cn either ring once on the chnnel, or ring repetitively. When ringing repetitively, the Model 0 mtches the ringing cdence of the locl telephone system. A rdio user cn nswer the cll by keying up nd entering the vlid ccess code. Or, the Model 0 cn be progrmmed to llow rdio users to nswer cll by just keying up (COR to nswer), which llows non DTMF rdios to nswer clls. For selectiveclling versions, the sequence of events is somewht different. After the Model 0 picks up the line, it prompts the phone prty with beep. The phone prty then overdils the number of the desired rdio (typiclly two or three digits) to be clled. The Model 0 keys up the trnsmitter nd brodcsts the corresponding pging tones, unsquelching the pproprite rdio only. Other rdios on the system re not disturbed. 26 Rdio Interfce Connector P Voice Audio Output: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): This connection supplies the trnsmitter with processed udio from the telephone line. This connection should be mde to the trnsmitter s microphone udio input. The level is djustble using djustment pot VR (XMIT LEVEL TO RADIO). RX Audio In: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): This led is connected to the rdio s RX udio. This is used to pss voice nd signling into the interconnect. This input lso feeds udio in to the highpss noise squelch filter quieting detector circuit nd the udio highpss filter to remove the CTCSS/DCS squelch tones. The level is djustble using pot VR (RECEIVE LEVEL FROM RADIO). Rdio COR Busy Detect: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): The Crrier Operted Rely (COR) connects to the rdio s squelch detect circuit. The COR connection should be mde to point in the rdio receiver's squelch circuit tht chnges in DC voltge level when the squelch control is opened nd closed or when crrier comes through nd breks the squelch. Such point usully exists t the output of the noise rectifier. The COR polrity cn be either ctive high or ctive low. (See progrmming section.) There is lso seprte noise squelch busy detector tht is derived from the discrimintor input if no COR input is vilble. Any one of these my be used for detecting busy chnnels (See Progrmming Help Menu). Discrimintor Audio In: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): This optionl connection is supplied by unfiltered discrimintor udio from the receiver to the interconnect s microprocessor for detecting high frequency noise vi IC0B, ICC, IC0C, IC0D, ICB, ICB nd finlly ICA. It determines if the crrier is present for busy lockout determintion. This connection must be mde directly to the discrimintor output of the ssocited receiver. The Disc Audio input must be connected t point before deemphsis. VR on IC0B sets the level. PTT Out: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): The PTT output is n open drin FET trnsistor with RF bypssing on its output led. This simply pulls the pushtotlk input of the rdio to ground to key up the rdio when ctivted by the interconnect microprocessor. Ground: (STI = Pin 0 STI = Pin ): This connection is the min negtive ground return between the rdio nd the interconnect. Tone Dt Output: (STI = Pin STI = Pin ): Not used in the STI. VIN Volts DC: (STI = Pin 9 STI = Pin ): Power for the interconnect is derived from the rdio. Due to the drop on the interconnect s volt regultor input, the voltge should be t lest volts with mximum of VDC.

RJ Connector for Telco Interfce Pin Telco Audio Tip Pin Telco Audio Ring This is the blnced 00ohm telephone line interfce. This interfce hs RF bypssing on the tip nd ring to ground s well s sprk suppressors DK nd DK nd selfresetting polyswitch fuse (F). Line blncing is ccomplished by selecting the right vlues of phsing cpcitnce using SW nd djusting VR for minimum trnshybrid side tone return udio on the TX Audio during receive from the rdio to Telco.

HARDWARE ALIGNMENT Initil Rdio Clibrtion Using n FM service monitor, check the ssocited rdio s frequency error to mke sure tht it is in spec with mnufcturer s specifictions. Check the rdio s modultion, bering in mind tht modultion is dditive. Most rdios re supposed to run KCs of modultion. The CTCSS tone modultion is supposed to run bout. KCs of devition, thus leving pproximtely KCs of voice modultion for n dditive totl of. KCs. Check the rdio receiver s sensitivity to mke sure it conforms to the prticulr mnufcturer s specifictions. Also check to mke sure the receiver is on frequency. Set the rdio receiver s udio level. In the following djustment section, we will be setting receive levels into the interconnect. If someone chnges the rdio s level significntly, it my overdrive the interconnect nd cuse distortion of the decode tones or voice udio. If the RX input level to the interconnect is too high, the input receive level pot on the interconnect my hve to be turned down so fr tht the djustment becomes criticl. Try to keep the level t the input t round 0 mv. V PektoPek. Clibrtion Proceed with the interconnect djustments using the following steps. Refer to the interconnect schemtic nd printed circuit bord lyout for loction of test points nd djustment potentiometers. KHz for wide bnd system or. for nrrow bnd system) nd with enough signl to quiet the rdio, djust RECEIVE LEVEL FROM RADIO pot VR for.v pektopek sine wve or 00 MV RMS or Zero (0) db or just below clipping on Pin of IC9B while monitoring with n oscilloscope. Use the DIP switch to select combintion tht reduces crossover in the hybrid s seen on pin of IC9A. In simplex mode the udio fed bck from the phone line my cuse the telephone line VOX to respond nd cuse the interconnect to key up when the mobile interconnect speks loudly nd the ntivox feture is not turned on.

With the mouse, select the TELEPHONE DTMF encode pth. The microprocessor will now turn on IC pins nd nd the phone line will remin seized (off hook). It will lso turn on ICB nd generte DTMF tone tht is fed through to the hybrid trnsformer to the phone line vi the RJ connector. Set DTMF LEVEL TO TEL LINE pot VR for.0 to 0 dbm to the telephone line using dbm meter in bridging mode.. If you re unble to get enough modultion, it my be necessry to reduce the vlue of R from K to perhps K for low impednce Mic circuits..
