1 QUICK STRT GUIDE FOR DEMONSTRTION CIRCUIT MICROPOWER STEP-DOWN SWITCHING REGULTOR IN THINSOT LT9ES6 DESCRIPTION Demonstration circuit features the LT9 and LT9- wide input range micro power step-down switching regulators. There are two switching regulator circuits in DC, the LT9ES6 circuit designed to convert.v~v input to.v at 0m output and the LT9ES6- circuit designed for the same input and output voltage at 0m load current. Each circuit has two jumpers for testing mode operation and selecting the output voltage setting (.V or V). Placing the jumper (JP & JP) to RUN enables LT9 step down converter operation and placing the jumper to disables the LT9 and the circuit will turn off. The output voltage jumper (JP & JP) changes the feedback resistor value to change the output voltage. Placing the jumper at.v sets the output to.v and placing the jumper at V sets the output voltage to V. For V output operation, the input voltage range needs to be 6.V ~V. The aluminum electrolytic input capacitor is used at the input for damping the voltage overshoot ringing caused by a low impedance voltage source and a long input power cable (LC tank). See pplication Note 88 for more details. Design files for this circuit board are available. Call the LTC factory. Table. Connect the input power supply (set at 7V initially) to the Vin and pins.. Turn on the input power supply and observe the output voltage. The output voltage should read.v ± 0.06V.. Test the function by moving the JP jumper from RUN to (turn on the load box preset at 0m for a few seconds to discharge the output capacitor). The output should read 0V.. Return the jumper back to RUN. The output voltage should now read.v ± 0.06V.. Turn on the load box preset at 0m. The input current should read 0m and the output voltage should be.v ± 0.06V. 6. Slowly change the input power supply voltage from.v to V while observing the output voltage. The output should stay within.v ± 0.06V. 7. Observe the input current at V, it should read m. 8. Change the input power supply voltage back to 7V and check the output ripple using the oscilloscope. The output ripple should not be higher than 0mV. lso check the switching frequency. The period should be us.
