1 Effective: January, 00 Page New Information AF9 Adjustable Model AF9 Description Model AF9 Adjustable Frequency AC Drives are designed to provide adjustable speed control of -phase motors. These microprocessor-based pulse width modulated (PWM) drives have standard features that can be programmed to tailor the drive s performance to suit a wide variety of application requirements. The AF9 product line utilizes insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs), which provide quiet motor operation, high motor efficiency and smooth low speed performance. The size and simplicity of the AF9 make it ideal for hassle free installation, or where size is a primary concern. Models rated at 460V, -phase, 0/60 Hz are available in sizes ranging from. to 6 amps. Models rated at 40V, single- or -phase, 0/60 Hz are available in sizes ranging from.4 to amps. Models rated at V, single-phase are available from.4 to 4.0 amps, -phase, 0V output. The standard drive includes a digital display, with operating and programming keys on an integral keypad. The display provides drive metering as well as adjustment and diagnostic information. The keypad is utilized for digital adjustment and programming of the drive as well as for operator control. Separate terminal blocks for control and power wiring are provided for user connections. Other features provided as standard include DC braking, serial communications, and PID control. Units are to be selected such that the motor current is less than or equal to the AF9 rated continuous output current. Current ratings are based on the AF9 being installed in a 40 C ambient maximum. Units must be derated for higher ambient temperatures. When the operator s control is located more than 66 feet from the AF9, signal isolation may be required. Refer to the Remote Interface Guide, 0IS For 08V, 80V or 4V applications, select the unit such that the motor current is less than or equal to the AF9 rated continuous output current. If the power source short circuit current rating exceeds 00 times the AF9 current rating, percent line unbalance, or if transient voltages from power factor capacitor switching or other switching events are present, an input line reactor must be used.
