1 UNIDEN 22 ACCESSOY CICUITS ALIGNMENT 1. NOISE BLANKE Adjustment 11. Test Equipment equired (1) DC Voltage Meter 12. Adjustment Procedures. (1) Set MODE SWITCH to USB, and recive 14.2 Mhz. (2) Activate MAKE OSCILLATO by pulling out F ATT knob. (3) Set NOISE BLANKE SWITCH to OFF. (4) Tune the main dial to generate about 1, Hz beat from a speaker. (5) Put the meter to the COLLECTO of Q119. (6) Adjust L139 and L14 to obtain minimum meter readings. 2. MAKE OSCILLATO ADJUSTMENT 21. Test Equipment equired (1) Frequency Counter. 22. Adjustment Procedures (1) Connect Frequency Counter to the Pin 1 (Marker output) of J751 on the operation unit. (2) Activate MAKE OSCILLATO by pulling out F ATT knob. (3) Tune trimmer capacitor C753, so that the counter indicates 25. KHz ± 2 Hz.. 23 Adjustment by Standard adio Signals (1) Connect antennatoantenna jack. (2) Set BAND SWITCH to 15. SEGMENT SWITCH at /5, and recive 15 MHz Standard Signal (JJY, WWV, etc.) (3) Pull out F ATT knob to activate MAKE OSCILLATO. (4) Set MODE SWITCH to AM. (5) Adjust trimmer C753 to make zero beat of calibration signal. It is easlily adjustable Standard adio Signal (A2), because double beat is generated. (6) Adjust attenuator control to make the calibration easy against excessive incoming signal. Sid 1 (26)

2 UNIDEN I.T CICUIT ALIGNMENT 31 Test Equipment equired (1) None 32 Adjustment Procedures (1) Set the main dial at 5, on any BAND or SEGMENT selection. (2) Pull out F ATT knob and make the marker oscillator work to obtain about 1, Hz beat. (3) Set.I.T knob to at the WIDE (normal) position. (4) Adjust potentiometer 665 in AV unit to obtain the same beat at ON or OFF of the.i.t SWITCH. (5) Again try the same adjustment on 664 in AV at the NAOW (pull) position of.i.t. 4. SMETE ADJUSTMENT 41 Test Equipment equired (1) Standard Signal Generator (SSG) 42 Adjustment Procedures (1) Connect SSG output to antenna jack. (2) Set MODE SWITCH to USB. (3) Set BAND SWITCH to 14., SEGMENT SWITCH at 2/3, and tune the main dial to recive 14.2 MHz signal. (4) Turn F GAIN CONTOL fully clockwise. (5) Turn F ATT CONTOLL fully clockwise. (6) Tune PESELECT knob to obtain maximum nois output. (7) Set SSG frequency at other than 14.2 MHz and keep minimum output level. (8) Turn potentiometer 387 in the IF unit fully counterclockwise. Then, return it slowly clockwise and stop just befor SMeter start moving. (9) Feed 4 db of 14.2 MHz unmodulated output to tranciver, and turn the dial to obtain maximum SMeter readings. (1) Adjust potentiometer 389 on the IF unit, so that the SMeter indicator S9 readings. (11) Set SSG Output at 8 db. (12) Adjust potentiometer 392 on the IF unit, so that the indicator shows fullscale readings. (13) epeat (9) (12) adjustment until both prospected readings ar available. Sid 2 (26)

3 UNIDEN ALC METE ADJUSTMENT 51. Test Equipment equired (1) F Power Meter. (2) Audio Generator (AG) x 2. (3) Audio Attenuator (ATT) (4) AF Millivolt Meter (mv) 52. Adjustment Procedures (1) Connect F power meter to antenna jack. (2) Set two AGs and ATT as described in Fig. 521, to provide twotone signals to the microphone jack. AG 1 ATT = 2 ohm AG 2 Fig 521 (3) Tune and load transmitter at 14.2 MHz to obtain maximum outout. (4) Set MODE SWITCH to USB. (5) Turn MIC GAIN CONTOL fully clockwise. (6) Set Meter Switch to ALC position. (7) Set AG 1 frequency to 1,9 Hz and AG 2 s to 23 Hz. (8) Measure each output voltage at the mv and set them to 1 mv. (9) Adjust and set the attenuator just before ALC Meter starts moving. (1) educe attenuation for 1 db and increase microphone input. (11) Adjust potentiometer 388 on the IF unit so that the indicator points the right end of the green ALC scale on the meter. Sid 3 (26)

4 UNIDEN 22 ECEIVE ALIGNMENT 1. ALIGNMENT PEPAATIONS 11. Set controls and switches on the front panel as indicated below: (1) FUNCTION SWITCH INT. (2) HT SWITCH OFF (3) STANDBY SWITCH PTT (4).I.T SWITCH OFF (5) N.B. SWITCH OFF (6) AGC SWITCH FAST (7) MODE SWITCH USB (8) F GAIN SWITCH Fully Clockwise (9) AG GAIN CONTOLL Center position. (1) SEGMENT SWITCH /5 KHz (11) F. ATT. CONTOL Fully Clockwise (12) OTHE CONTOLS & SWITCHES Option 12. Set rera panel switch and jack as indicated below: (1) F POWE AMP SWITCH Off (2) Connect external speaker (4 ohms), or 4 ohm dummy load to the EXT. SP jack. 13. Set PW SWITCH to ON after completion of all preparations as mentioned above. 2. X F UNIT ALIGNMENT 21. Test Equipment equired (1) Standard Signal Generator (SSG) (2) AF millivolt Meter (mv) 22. IF Trap Coil Alignment (1) Connect SSG output to antenna jack. (2) Connect mv to speaker or dummy load in parallel. (3) Set BAND Switch to 7., and SEGMENT SWITCH to /5. (4) Turn PESELECT CONTOL fully counterclockwise. (5) Provide 8 db of MHz unmodulated signal from SSG. (6) Adjust L1 and L27, so as indicate minimum readings on SMeter or mv. Sid 4 (26)

5 UNIDEN Tuning Coil Alignment (1) Connect SSG output and mv as 22 (1), (2). (2) Set PESELECT CONTOL to center position. (3) Select BAND SWITCH and SEGMENT SWITCH in order, starting from 15. MHz according to the chart 221A, and also provide listed frequency signals (unmodulated 4 db) from SSG as show in the chart 221B and recive them by tuning the main dial. (4) Get maximum SMeter or mv readings by adjusting tuning coils as indicated (L21 L213) on each band. (5) Control SSG output during this process to make adjustment easier. (1) Connect SSG and mv as 22 (1), (2) (2) Set BAND SWITCH to 14., and SEGMENT SWITCH to 2/7. (3) Provide 4 db of 14.2 MHz unmodulated signal from SSG. (4) Tune the main dial and receive the input signal, then control PESELECT knob to get maximum output readings. (5) Adjust L214 L218 so as to get the maximum readings on SMeter or mv. Sid 5 (26)

6 UNIDEN IF UNIT ALIGNMENT 31. Test Equipment equired (1) Same as Preparations Take out IF UNIT (PC78) and put SEVICE EXTENSION BOAD in its place, then CONNECT the IF UNIT to the EXTENSION BOAD. 33. Coil Adjustment. (1) Process the same as 24, (1) (4). (2) Adjust L351 L354 to get the maximum readings or SMeter or mv. 34. Carrier Balance Adjustment. (1) Process the same as 24, (1) (4), but note that SSG output should be 2 db. (2) Adjust CAIE BALANCE potentiometer 374 and trimmer capacitor C37 to get the maximum readings on mv. Sid 6 (26)

7 UNIDEN 22 TANSMITTE ALIGNMENT 1. ALIGNMENT PEPAATION 11. Set controll and swiches on the front panel as folows. (1) FUNCTION SWITCH INT. (2 STANDBY SWITCH PTT (3) METE SWITCH IK (4) MIC GAIN CONTOL Fully counterclockwise (5) CAIE CONTOL Fully counterclockwise (6) OTHE CONTOLS & SWITCHES Option 12. Set rear panel switch and jack as indicated below: (1) F POWE SWITCH ON (2) Connect F power meter (5 ohms impedance) to antenna jack. 13. Set PW and HT switch to ON after completion of all prepatarions as mentioned abov. 14. Please note following instructions at the position of the wordings: OBTAIN MAXIMUM OUTPUT AT.MHz, which will be mentioned here after during tuning procedures and marked * (1) Make preparations. (2) Set MODE SWITCH to TUNE. (3) Select BAND and SEGMENT SWITCHES according to the desired frequency. (4) Set METE SWITCH to ALC position. (5) Set PLATE CONTOL knob around the desired frequency range. (6) Set LOAD CONTOL knob to center position. (7) Set CAIE CONTOL knob to center position. (8) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (9) Tune PESELECT CONTOL to get maximum meter readings. (1) Set METE SWITCH to PW. (11) Adjust PLATE and LOAD controls by turns to get maximum meter readings. (12) eset the STANDBY SWITCH to PPT position. (13) Turn CAIE CONTOL knob fully counterclockwise. Sid 7 (26)

8 UNIDEN 22 CAUTION (1) During transmitter tuning, do not keep the final tube running untuned for a long period of time. Make quick adjustment of PLATE and LOAD controls. (2) High voltage is generated especially inside of the final amplifier and also bottom of the PA compartment. Don t touch part of them. 2. PA IDLING CUENT ADJUSTMENT 21. Test Equipment equired (1) None 22. Adjustment Procedure. (1) Set MODE SWITCH to USB. (2) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU (3) Adjust the BIAS potentiometer, 16 on the rear panel so as to indicate GEEN TIANGLE MAK on the meter. 3. GENEATO UNIT ALIGNMENT 31. Test Equipment equired (1) F voltage Meter (2) AF millivolt Meter (mv) (3) Audio Generator (AG) (4) Frequency Counter. (5) Oscilloscope 32. Preparations Take out Generator Unit (PC8) and put a SEVICE EXTENSION BOAD in its place, then connect the GENEATO UNIT to the EXTENSION BOAD. 33. (1) Connect F voltage meter the (F VTVM) to Pin 16 of J18. (2) Adjust L51 to get maximum meter readings. (3) emove F VTVM and connect frequency counter to Pin 16 of J18. (4) Set MODE SWITCH to USB, and adjust trimmer capacitor C541 so that the frequency counter indicates 6,187. khz. (5) Set MODE SWITCH to TUNE, and adjust trimmer capacitor C542 so that the counter reading indicates 6, khz. Sid 8 (26)

9 UNIDEN Modulator Output Coil Adjustment (1) Connect F VTVM to Pin 6 of J16 (IF UNIT). (2) Set F AMP SWITCH on the rear panel to OFF. (3) Set MODE SWITCH to TUNE. (4) Turn CAIE CONTOL knob fully clockwise. (5) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (6) Adjust L51 for maximum VFVM indication. It will indicate around.2v r.m.s. (7) eset CAIE CONTOL fully counterclockwise and STANDBY SWITCH to PTT. (8) Connect AG output to the microphone jack and provide 1,5 Hz, 1 mv output. (9) Set MODE SWITCH to USB. (1) Turn MIC GAIN CONTOL fully clockwise. (11) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (12) Adjust L54 for maximum meter indication. It will indicate around,3v r.m.s. 35. Balanced Modulator Alignment. (1) This alignment should be taken place after completion of OUTPUT METE adjustment (51, 52). *(2) Obtain maximum output at 14.2 MHz. (3) Set MODE SWITCH to USB. (4) Connect F meter to antenna jack. (5) Make sure that MIC GAIN CONTOL is set fully counterclockwise. (6) Set STANBY SWITCH to MANU and adjust 53 for the minimum meter indication. (7) Change MODE SWITCH to LSB and USB by yurns, and make presise tuning by adjusting 53 to get equal meter readings on both modes. 36. AM Modulation Adjustment (1) This alignment also should be made after completion of OUTPUT METE adjustment (51, 52). *(2) Obtain maximum output at 14.2 MHz. (3) Set MODE SWITCH to AM (4) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (5) Turn CAIE CONTOL to get 12 mv reading on the meter. (6) Connect AG output to microphone jack and provide 1,5 Hz, 1 mv output. (7) Set MIC GAIN CONTOL to 3 o clock position. (8) Use Oscilloscope to observe output envelope. (9) Adjust 59 to keep about 8% of output modulation level. Sid 9 (26)

10 UNIDEN TANSMITTE F CICUITS ALIGNMENT 41. Test Equipment equired (1) F Power Meter. 42. Tuning Coil Adjustment *(1) Obtain maximum output at each frequency in chart 421A, but note that PESELECT CONTOL should be center position. (2) Set METE SWITCH to ALC. (3) Turn CAIE CONTOL knob fully clockwise. (4) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (5) Adjust each coil in chart 421B to get the maximum meter reading. (6) eturn CAIE CONTOL counterclockwise so as to make tuning more easily upon adjustment. (7) epeat (1) to (6) procedures on each band in order as show in the chart 421. 11 UNIDEN F output meter adjustment 51. Test Equipment equired (1) F Power Meter. 52. Adjustment Procedure. *(1) Obtain maximum output at 14.2 MHz (2) Set METE SWITCH to PW. (3) Turn CAIE CONTOL knob fully clockwise. (4) Adjust the meter adjustment potentiometer 8 on the rear panel, so that the IK reading shows 2 ma. 6. FEEDBACK NEUTALIZING. 61. Test Equipment equired (1) F voltage Meter (F VTVM) 62. Adjustment Procedures. *(1) Obtain maximum output at 21.2 MHz. (2) Set F POWE AMP SWITCH on rear Panel to OFF. (3) Connect VTVM to antenna jack. (4) Turn CAIE CONTOL FULLY clockwise. (5) Set STANDBY SWITCH to MANU. (6) Adjust the air trimmer C137 to obtain minimum meter readings. CAUTION use insulated screw driver only for this adjustment. Sid 11 (26)

12 UNIDEN 22 POWE SUPPLY ALIGNMENT 1. AV UNIT (PC82) ALIGNMENT. 11. Test Equipment equired (1) DC Voltage Meter. 12. Voltage Measurement and Adjustment. (1) 8.2V DC Power Source: Connect DC Voltage meter to Pin 3 of J651, and adjust potentiometer 659 to get 8.2V ±.2V of meter readings. (2) 6V DC Power Source: Connect the meter to Pin 5 of J651, and check that the meter reading indicates within V. This process should be made after completion of (1) as mentioned above. (3) 5V DC Power Source: Connect the meter to Pin 9 of J651 and adjust potentiometer 653 to get 5V +.2.1V of meter readings. (4).I.T Power Source: Connect the DC meter to Pin 6 of J651 and adjust potentiometer 662 to get 1.3V ±.1V of meter readings. Sid 12 (26)

13 UNIDEN 22 LOCAL OSCILLATO CICUITS ALIGNMENT 1. VFO UNIT (PC83, PC84) ALIGNMENT 11. Test Equipment equired (1) Frequency Counter (2) F voltage Meter (F VTVM) 12. Oscillator Frequency Adjustment. (1) Set FUNCTION SWITCH to INT (2) Set.I.T SWITCH to OFF (3) Connect Frequency Counter to Pin 5 J71. (4) Turn the main dail nd set it to KHz (toward 9 khz, 1 khz), then adjust L72 to get 9,38 khz counter reading. (5) Then turn the dial to khz (toward 1 khz), and adjust trimmer C77 to get 9,138 khz counter readings. (6) epeat (4) and (5) adjustments until both readings are made correctly. 13. Output Voltage Adjustment. (1) Set switches to same as 12 adjustment. (2) Connect F meter to Pin 5 of J71. (3) Turn and set the dial to 5 (center) readings. (4) Adjust L76 and L77 to get maximum meter readings. It will indicate around.4.5v r.m.s. Sid 13 (26)

14 UNIDEN PLL UNIT (PC86, PC87) ALIGNMENT. 21. Test Equipment equired (1) Frequency Counter (2) F voltage Meter (F VTVM) 22. VCO Unlockedoscillation Frequency Adjustment. (1) Set FUNCTION SWITCH to. EXT. (2) Connect Frequency Counter to the DAIN of Q87. (3) Adjust L81 so as to get 16. MHz counter readings. CAUTION Don t use magnetized tools when adjusting PLL unit because magnetization of VCO coil core may make C/N of oscillation output worse extremely. 23. Bandpass Amplifier Alginment. (1) Set FUNCTION SWITCH to INT. (2) Set SEGMENT SWITCH to 2/7 khz. (3) Turn and set the dial to 5 (center) readings. (4) Connect F voltage meter to the BASE of Q817. (5) Adjust L84 L87 to get maximum meter readings. It will indicate about.5v r.m.s. Sid 14 (26)

15 UNIDEN LOCAL OSCILLATO UNIT (PC92) ALIGNMENT. 31. Test Equipment equired (1) F Voltage Meter. (2) Frequency Counter. (3) Sweep Generator. (4) Oscilloscope. 32. Xtal Oscillator Output Adjustment. (1) Connect F voltage meter to TP12. (2) Select BAND SWITCH in order, starting from 15. MHz according to the chart 321A and adjust each trimmer in 321D so as to obtain frequency readings as shown in 321C respectively. 34. VCO Buffer Amplifier Adjustment. (1) Connect F voltage meter to DAIN of Q113. (2) Set BAND SWITCH to 3,5 MHz. (3) Set SEGMENT SWITCH to 2/7 khz. (4) Turn and set the dial to 5 (center) readings. (5) Adjust L121 and L122 to get maximum meter readings. Sid 15 (26)

16 UNIDEN Bandpass Filter Adjustment. (1) Connect test equipments as show in Fig 351 Fig 351 Oscilloscope Sweep Generator H V TP11 J14 (1) (2) Select BAND SWITCH in order, starting from 15. MHZ according to the chart 351 and adjust each coil (351C) so as to get the assigned wave from on oscilloscope (351B) respectively. (3) After completion of these adjustments, remove sweep generator and oscilloscope. Then, connect F voltage meter to Pin 1 of J14 and confirm that meter readings on each band show.7 1.3V r.m.s.
