2 Description The is an integrated low voltage I2C ambient light sensor (L) and ultraviolet light sensor (UV) in a single miniature 2x2mm chipled lead-free surface mount package. This sensor converts light intensity to a digital output signal capable of direct I2C interface. It provides a linear L response over a wide dynamic range, and is well suited to applications under high ambient brightness. The sensor has a programmable interrupt with hysteresis to response to events and that removes the need to poll the sensor for a reading which improves system efficiency. 4 2. Functional Block Diagram OPTICL ENOR contains 2 integrated photodiodes (L/UV) for respective photocurrent measurements. The photodiode currents are converted to digital values by DCs. 18 OPTICL ENOR 6.5 MIN_TTU Register (ddress: 0x07) (Read Only) This register stores the information about the L/UV interrupts and data status. The interrupt status in Bit 4 determines if the L/UV interrupt criteria are met in Normal Interrupt Mode. 19 6.6 L_DT Registers (ddress: 0x0D/ 0x0E/0x0F) (Read Only) OPTICL ENOR The mbient Light ensor Channel digital output data are expressed as a 3 to 20 bit unsigned integer data. When I 2 C read operation is active and points to any of the register address between 0x07 and 0x2, all 3 registers will be locked until the I 2 C read operation has been completed or the specified address range is left. This is to ensure that the data in the registers is from the same measurement even if an additional measurement cycle ends during the read operation. 20 6.7 UV_DT Registers (ddress: 0x0/0x/0x2) (Read Only) OPTICL ENOR The UV ensor Channel digital output data are expressed as a 6 to 20 bit unsigned integer data. When I 2 C read operation is active and points to any of the register address between 0x07 and 0x2, all 3 registers will be locked until the I 2 C read operation has been completed or the specified address range is left. The L/UV interrupt source generator either uses the L_DT or the UV_DT registers as input. 25 8. Device Operation (tate Machine and Interrupt Features) OPTICL ENOR 8. tate Machine Below diagram is the main state machine of LTR-390UV. L measurements can be activated by setting the UV/L_Enable bit to and the UV_Mode bit to 0 in the MIN_CTRL register. UV measurements can be activated by setting the L_EN bit to and the UV_Mode bit to in the MIN_CTRL register. s soon as L or UV become activated through an I²C command, the internal support blocks are powered on. Once the voltages and currents are settled (typically after 5ms), the state machine checks for trigger events from a measurement scheduler to start the L or UV conversions according to the selected measurement repeat rates. Once L_EN is changed back to 0, a conversion running on the respective channel will be completed and the relevant DCs and support blocks will move to standby mode. 24/33 Part No. : BN-OD-FC002/4

26 OPTICL ENOR 8.2 Interrupt Features This device generates Light ensor (L or UV depending on configuration) interrupt signals and output to the INT pad. The interrupt conditions are always evaluated after completion of a new conversion on the L/UV channels L/UV ensor Interrupt The L interrupt is enabled by L_INT_EN=. The L/UV interrupt source generator either uses the L_DT or the UV_DT registers as input. The L/UV interrupt source is selected by the L/UV_INT_EL bits in the INT_CFG register. The Light ensor threshold interrupt is enabled with L/UV_INT_EN=. It is set when the L_DT or UV_DT data is above the upper or below the lower threshold for a specified number of consecutive measurements. It is set when the absolute value of the difference between the previous and current L/UV data is above the decoded L/UV variance threshold for a specified number of consecutive measurements (+L/UV_PERIT). 25/33 Part No. : BN-OD-FC002/4
