2 Range Problem Troubleshooter 1. Is the receiver located inside a building? Yes - Mount the antenna outside the building. Remote Control Technology equipment transmits at 27 MHz. This frequency has great characteristics for long range but has limited ability to penetrate materials used in construction of some buildings. Several different outside antenna options are available from Remote Control Technology. Contact our sales staff to find out which one is right for your location. No - Mount your antenna at least 40 feet away from electric motors, large power transformers, power lines, V.F.D.s or any equipment that makes ambient electrical noise. Mount the antenna as high as possible, at least 3 feet away from vertical surfaces and out from under roof awnings. 2. If the top mount or side mount antenna kits have been installed, verify that the kits were installed per the instructions included in the kit. An improperly installed antenna can severely affect the range. 3. If the above receiver antenna mounting instructions have been followed and the problem is still limited range replace the battery in the transmitter. A partially discharged battery can adversely affect the range of a transmitter. 4. If none of the above improves the range then call Remote Control Technology to obtain an RMA number so that you can return the unit for service. 3 TRC Commander Transmitter 1. Does the transmitter make any sound when a key is pressed? Yes - continue to step 2. No - replace the battery and return to step 1. If no sound is heard after replacing the battery then return the unit for service. Please return transmitter and receiver both to ensure full system functionality after service. 2. Check the programming on the transmitter. If the transmitter quit working after the battery was changed and any of the receivers are set to a group code or receiver number other than the factory default of group code 1, receiver 1 then the transmitter may have been without power long enough to reset itself to factory default and will have to be re-programmed. If the receiver has been set to a different receiver number or group code than the factory default of Group Code 1, Receiver 1 then substitute those numbers for the 0001 (group code) and 1(receiver number) in the following sequence. Enter the following code via the keypad: REC# then enter and press the REC# key then enter 1 and press the REC# key. Enter 1 - VALVE ON and see if there is any response from the receiver If the transmitter still does not communicate with the receiver then return the unit for service. Please return transmitter and receiver both to ensure full system functionality after service. 3. If you are turning on or off multiple valves in the normal course of operation check and see if the Power LED on the receiver is flashing. If this is the case you may have inadvertently entered the code VALVE OFF which places the system in rain off mode and the receiver will not acknowledge any commands until this mode is exited. To reset the receiver enter the code 0 - VALVE OFF, which will disable the rain off feature. The Power LED will stay on solid, returning the system to normal operation. If the transmitter still does not communicate with the receiver then call Remote Control Technology to obtain an RMA number so that you can return the unit for service. Please return transmitter and receiver both to ensure full system functionality after service. 4. If possible, test the transmitter with another receiver to determine if the transmitter or receiver is at fault. 3

4 TRC Commander Receiver 1. Does the receiver show a power on light when plugged in? Yes - continue to step 2. No - Is this a new installation or an existing installation? If this is an existing installation, continue to step 2. If it is a new installation, verify that the interface cable is wired correctly to the controller. The three most important connections are Valve Common, which is the orange/red wire, Master Valve which is the green/white wire, and 24 volts AC which is the blue/white wire. If this wiring is correct and the receiver still shows no power then return the unit for service. Please return transmitter and receiver both to ensure full system functionality after service. 2. Check the programming on the transmitter. If the receiver has been set to a different receiver number or group code than the factory default of Group Code 1, Receiver 1 then substitute those numbers for the 0001 (group code) and 1(receiver number) in the following sequence. The header on the receiver card is smaller than the header on the controller board and it is possible to insert the card incorrectly. Remove the card and re insert it taking care to line up the pins - the card should go in with minimal force. If the card is installed correctly and still shows no power then return the card for service. 2. Verify the position of the DIP switches on the card. In packaging, shipping and installation the switches may have been moved. Remove the receiver card from the controller and reset all the switches to the OFF position then reset them for the factory default of Group code 1, Receiver 1 per the diagram. 8 Permanent Receiver Card for Irritrol Dial & MC Series Controllers 1. If more than one Irritrol controller is being used the controllers must be powered separately and the valve common wiring must be separate for each controller otherwise the receiver card in the first controller may work fine and the card in the second controller will not operate correctly. This is caused by a floating ground problem that is specific to the Irritrol controller. 2. Does the receiver card show a power on light when plugged in? Yes - continue to step 3. No - verify that the receiver card is plugged into the controller correctly. If the card is installed correctly and still shows no power then return the card for service. 3. Verify the position of the DIP switches on the card. In packaging, shipping and installation the switches may have been moved. Remove the receiver card from the controller and reset all the switches to the OFF position then reset them for the factory default of Group code 1, Receiver 1 per the diagram. 10 Permanent Receiver Card for Hit Logic 2 & Logic 3 Controllers 1. Not all HIT Logic controllers are remote ready. The controller must have been ordered as remote capable from HIT for our equipment to operate in this controller. If there is no power connector for the receiver card in the controller then the controller is not remote capable. If there is a power connector present and the receiver card shows a power on light and a valve on light but the valve does not actually come on there may be a chip missing on the controller board which must be ordered from HIT and installed before our equipment will operate the controller. 2. Does the receiver card show a power on light when plugged in? Yes - continue to step 3. No - verify that the receiver card is plugged into the controller correctly. If the card is installed correctly and still shows no power then return the card for service. 3. Verify the position of the DIP switches on the card.
